See Tekken 7’s Arcade Mode in action, with this playthrough from Maximilian

Thanks to a recent visit to Bandai Namco’s US offices, notable FGC YouTuber Maximilian got the chance to record a playthrough of Tekken 7’s Arcade Mode. Using Jin for the duration of the session, Max ran through the five fights you will experience on a standard Arcade playthrough, complete with a final battle with Akuma.

For most of the video, Max provides his thoughts and impressions of playing Tekken 7 before its official June 2nd release. His first impressions are extremely positive, praising the game’s movement and neutral game. Unfortunately, he was not able to get any information from the Bandai Namco staff about Tekken 7’s netcode, so we will have to wait closer to launch for news on that. As for the Arcade Mode itself, Max reckons that he did not unlock everything during his recorded runs, as he did not encounter the signature final boss fight you usually get in most Arcade Modes. You do get different final fights depending on the character you pick, so expect there to be some special unlock conditions to access a potential secret fight.

Expect more Tekken 7 news to be coming as we get closer to its June 2nd release.

DidYouKnowGaming turns its attention to Super Smash Bros. Melee in its latest trivia video

Following up on its previous episode on the original Super Smash Bros., DidYouKnowGaming has turned its attention to Super Smash Bros. Melee for its latest episode. Focusing on cut characters, cancelled features and other pieces of trivia, this episode sheds some light on some lesser-known facts about Melee’s development.

For example, Banjo-Kazooie, James Bond and Sonic the Hedgehog were all considered as characters to be featured within Melee. While Sonic was eventually added in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Banjo-Kazooie and James Bond were left out due to issues with licensing. The only potential remnant of James Bond’s possible inclusion is with the Proximity Mine item which has a passing resemblance to the Goldeneye weapon of the same name.

Eight player Smash was even considered as early as Melee, but the GameCube’s hardware limitations stopped this from happening. It was only until the release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U that Sakurai could implement this feature.

EDGE interview reveals more about ARMS’ control schemes and future characters

In a recent interview with UK gaming magazine EDGE, ARMS producer Kosuke Yabuki and design director Shintaro Jikumaru revealed some extra details about the Nintendo Switch’s first major fighting game, mainly concerning the game’s motion controls.

Speaking about the game’s unique control scheme, Yabuki stated that “the true feel of ARMS comes when you’re holding both Joy-Con controllers in the Thumbs-Up grip”, but conceded that ARMS “does not require motion controls” in order to play. When played with a Pro Controller, your left and right punches are mapped to the triggers, you can guard by clicking in the left stick, with dodge and jump mapped to two of the face buttons.

However, according to the EDGE feature, “you can’t move in one direction and punch in the other” when on the Pro Controller, as the left stick is used to control the angle of your punches. You also cannot control the angle of your second punch until your first arm has fully extended, leaving JoyCon Grip and Pro Controller players at a massive disadvantage compared to those using motion controls.

As for new characters, the current roster of seven fighters is “just a fraction of what’s to come.” Expect more fighters to be revealed before ARMS’ June 16th release date.

Learn the difference between a meteor smash and a spike in this latest guide from SSBM Tutorials

SSBM Tutorials and CDK are back with another Super Smash Bros. Melee guide, this time covering meteor smashes and spikes. While used interchangeably by some people, a meteor smash and a spike are different from one another, with this tutorial hoping to inform players about these differences.

Meteor smashes and spikes look the same on first glance; they both send an opponent flying downwards at high speed. However, while you can effectively cancel the momentum of a meteor smash through meteor cancelling, you cannot cancel the momentum of a spike. There are only four so-called “true” spikes in the game–Ganondorf’s Wizard’s Foot, Marth’s down air, the upper hitbox of Falcon’s down air and Falco’s down air. In the PAL version of Melee, Marth’s down air is actually a meteor smash.

Players can meteor cancel by inputting either an Up B or a jump eight frames after the initial hit-stun of a meteor smash. If you try to meteor cancel too early, you won’t be able to meteor cancel again for 40 frames and mostly likely die. If you lock out the jump meteor cancel window, you can always use the Up B one as the lock out windows are different. Trying to save yourself with the jump meteor cancel after an failed Up B cancel can be tricky, as you can press Up too hard on the Control Stick during the Up B and buffer your double jump before the initial eight frame window ends. Make sure to practice your meteor cancels and learn which moves can and can’t be cancelled out of.

See Darkseid, Green Arrow and Green Lantern in action with these Injustice 2 character walkthroughs

While yesterday saw the announcement of the first character pack for Injustice 2, NetherRealm Studios were also on hand for one of their informative Watchtower streams. Friday’s stream focused on Green Arrow, Green Lantern and the pre-order character Darkseid, showing off their special moves and various Gear sets which can be used in combat. GameSpot has compiled all of the relevant character walkthroughs into three dedicated videos for your viewing pleasure. First off is Green Lantern, who retains much of his moveset from the original Injustice. He also has dedicated Gear sets which turn him into a Red and Blue Lantern.

Next up is Green Arrow. Much like Green Lantern, he retains much of his moveset from the original Injustice. He can now move around while prepping one of his elemental arrows, as well as storing it in his quiver for later use. One of his new Gear pieces allows him to swap out his trademark boxing glove arrow for a bola arrow, which ties enemies in place for a few seconds.

The final character is the tyrannical ruler of Apokolips, Darkseid. Besides his trademark Omega Beams, Darkseid has control of three different minions to use in battle. One can be detonated on command, another one flies next to Darkseid and can either charge forward or fire a fireball, while the final minion teleports in for a quick overhead strike. Unlike Killer Instinct’s minion master Gargos, Darkseid’s Para-demons will disappear if Darkseid takes a hit.

Images of Street Fighter V’s new character Ed leak before Monday’s reveal

Capcom cannot catch a break, can they? Ahead of his reveal on Monday, Street Fighter super sleuths have found images of new character Ed, right on the official Street Fighter website. Rather than sporting the white hoodie seen in Story Mode, Ed’s in-game outfit has him dressed as a Shadaloo military cadet.

Ed Street Fighter V Full Image

Ed’s clearly been hitting the gym since Story Mode as well, looking more muscular compared to the scrawny teenage miscreant that was training under Balrog. He has a passing resemblance to Abel with his new design, which makes sense seeing as both him and Ed are potential replacement bodies for M. Bison.

Ed Character Portrait

We’ll no doubt see the return of the white hoodie as Ed’s Story Mode costume, but who knows what his Premium outfit will be. All will (hopefully) be revealed on Monday so stay tuned for more information on Ed.

Rocket Raccoon gets his own Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite teaser

To celebrate the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in US theaters, Capcom and Marvel have given fans a sneak peak at everyone’s favorite foul-mouthed, weapon-loving trash panda: Rocket Racoon. The teaser is very short, showing fans one of Rocket’s hyper combos.

Based on this teaser, we can now rule Groot out as a playable character, as he looks like he just joins in to help Rocket with certain attacks. I imagine we could see Groot working similarly to Maya in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, or Nadeshiko in Street Fighter V, appearing only in certain specials or super moves. We’ll no doubt get a full Rocket Raccoon trailer in the coming days, so stay tuned for more.

The next character for Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade will be announced on May 9th

Square Enix have been noticeably quiet about Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade, with the last character reveal being back in March for Final Fantasy II’s Emperor. Well, Square Enix are about to break their silence however, as they are planning to announce a brand new character on May 9th via a special character livestream.

The last two revealed characters have been villains, so I think we’re long overdue for a hero. My personal bet is that we’ll finally be getting Noctis from Final Fantasy XV as a playable character, seeing as all the other mainline Final Fantasy protagonists are on the roster. Or we could be thrown another curveball, and get someone like Exdeath or Ultimecia.

We still have yet to receive word on a release date for the console version of Dissidia, but with E3 on the horizon and Square Enix in attendance, it could finally be time. If you want to watch the livestream, it is at 8:00 PM JST/4:00 AM PDT on May 9th.

Send your opponent back to World 1-1 with this Mario footstool lock in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Despite his position within the top 10 being somewhat of a meme within the Smash 4 community, there is no denying that Mario is quite the contender. He already possesses some fantastic combo tools, but this new footstool lock should see him getting more reliable kills.

Hoping to show players how to use this footstool lock in a game, the Beefy Smash Doods have made a new tutorial video to teach people everything about this setup. It’s quite tricky to do at first, requiring a footstool, a neutral air lock and perfectly placed jabs in order to set up for a kill. Moreover, this lock simply will not work on some characters due to their fall speed and gravity. However, if you do manage to land it, it can kill your opponent starting at around 50%.

Wavedash Games’ eagerly awaited platform fighter is scheduled for launch in Q2 2018

After raising $6 million in funding for their (still) unnamed platform fighter, Wavedash Games have released a bit more information surrounding their long-awaited project. In an interview with TechCrunch, chief executive Matt Fairchild and creative director Jason Rice revealed to platform fighter fans that not only is the game set to launch in Q2 of 2018, but that a beta should finally be coming sometime in 2017.

This interview has also hinted at the overall narrative for the project, with the game taking place in “intergalactic society where gladiatorial competition has replaced warfare.” The game is set to launch with eight fighters, with each one representing their respective homeworld. According to Rice, Wavedash have “a moral objective to see that our game is diverse and inclusive,” so expect the game to steer clear of tired character stereotypes. So far, we know about the Captain Falcon-esque Ashani, the space goat Kidd, the socialite grappler Xana, and the gunslinger Raymer–who is set to be fully revealed later this month. You can see what looks like Raymer’s pistol and hand in the featured image above, so expect some form of keep-away character, possibly in the vein of Samus.

When Wavedash reveals Raymer later this month, hopefully we also finally get to see these characters in action. A working title would be helpful as well! The project is currently scheduled to launch on only PC next year, but expect details on potential console releases as more information begins to trickle out.
