Justin Wong talks to BornFree about Karin, Punk, and getting ready for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Justin Wong is still ready to tear it up in any and all fighting games!

At last weekend’s DreamHack Austin, BornFree managed to get a bit of time to talk to Echo Fox’s Justin Wong about a variety of topics–such as consulting PG|Punk as a fellow Karin main for advice on being more aggressive, the increasingly explosive (and thus more spectator-friendly) direction of Street Fighter V, and how Balrog is presently the best character in the game. They also discuss Wong’s favorite players, Arika’s potential Fighting Layer sequel, and how playing Tatsunoko vs. Capcom may be the best way to prepare for the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite.

VesperArcade discusses next week’s CFN beta for Street Fighter V, and Ed’s possible playability

Will we get to try out Ed next week? Or will Capcom reveal someone else?

In his latest video, VesperArcade chats about what we can expect from the upcoming second Capcom Fighters Network beta test, that will be available next week for both PlayStation 4 and PC users. As Capcom has indicated that we’ll also be able to try out the next DLC fighter in this beta test, the expectation is, naturally, that we’ll get a chance to play as Ed, as least for a little while!

Now, there’s no guarantee that Capcom will indeed trot out Ed next; while his impending arrival was leaked through the PlayStation Store, we don’t know for certain that the Psycho Power-wielding teen will be the next playable fighter without an official confirmation. But it seems very likely–and based on that likelihood, VesperArcade discusses what sort of fighting style we might expect to see from Balrog’s ward. A mix of boxing techniques peppered with Psycho Power could make for an interesting fighter!

Street Fighter V servers down for some “urgent maintenance” today: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM PDT

Is a new Temple Hideout theme incoming?

Capcom announced via Twitter last night that there will be a brief period of “urgent maintenance” for the Street Fighter V servers today–so if you had planned to fight for some League Points today, you’ll have to wait until after lunch.

The reason is unspecified; there is a possibility this may be to apply modified background music to the Temple Hideout stage, after the concerns about the religious references in its original theme prompted its removal from the Shop and a quick fix of replacing the initial music with M. Bison’s theme. Hopefully, we see the stage returned to full working order today. Of course, this particular maintenance bout may also be for something completely different–we’ll see.

Witness the evolution of Street Fighter character models across the franchise with morphing GIFs

See how each fighter’s appearance has changed throughout the history of Street Fighter!

Many of the fighters we know and love (or love to hate) have been with the Street Fighter franchise for quite a long time. Over the past three decades we’ve naturally seen advances in the technology supporting these titles, and the characters have evolved to keep up, of course; gaining more detail and changing their appearance with each new iteration.

MuchGames demonstrates exactly how much these characters’ in-game models have changed very effectively in these morphing GIFs, each showing us in a few seconds how a Street Fighter changes over the course of multiple games–from their origins, up to Street Fighter X Tekken or Street Fighter V. Check out the GIFs for Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Sagat, M. Bison, Sakura, and Akuma below! It’s fascinating to see how each character has changed in each game, while retaining common identifying elements in their design.

The original post on MuchGames also includes additional information about each character’s history and design, be sure to check it out!

Beware the one-punch KO: More tips on facing Balrog’s deadly TAP in Street Fighter V

Sudden, surprising, and seriously dangerous!

Balrog: he WANTS THAT FIGHT MONEY. And he’ll catch you with a charged Turn Around Punch–taking that round you thought you were about to win–to get it, if you aren’t careful. Sometimes even if you are!

Ominous_ offers up some more information on the TAP in this video, detailing the charge time and frame data for each level of the TAP, and discussing where and when you need to watch out for its application.

Balrog master Brian_F recently uploaded an in-depth examination of Balrog’s Turn Around Punch that you’ll also want to check out!

YogaFlame24 had a bit of fun recently, showing off some nasty TAP interactions that knocked the opponent down for the count–and reminding us that it was scary in Street Fighter IV, too. Indeed, Balrog is One Punch Man: doomed to wander the Earth until he finds some chump that isn’t flattened by a Final TAP.

Second Street Fighter V CFN beta test will be open to PlayStation 4 and PC users on May 11-14, 2017

The next test is coming soon, and this time both platforms can try out the upcoming features.

CFN banner

While the next Street Fighter V balance patch and Capcom Fighters Network improvements were initially expected to go live before the end of April, it was later stated by Capcom that they intended to conduct a second beta test first, pushing the update back further. While no specific timeline was previously indicated, Capcom announced this morning that the second beta test will now be running May 11-14, 2017–and unlike the first, both PlayStation 4 and PC players will now be able to try it out.

All PS4/PC users will be able to play the beta test, even without a copy of Street Fighter V. Fight Money/statistics accumulated in the test will not be shared with your main game.

Here’s a breakdown (once again) of the incoming Capcom Fighters Network features/changes in the beta test (in addition to the character balance changes, and some alterations/additions to stage backgrounds):

  • Rage Quit Penalty System
The special Player Profile Icons will work correctly, and matchmaking logic will take into account your online behavior and frequent disconnectors will be matched with similar opponents.
  • Ranked and Casual Match Loading Times
There will be a shorter transition when going into a Ranked or Casual Match.
  • Battle Lounge Country Flags
Country flags will now properly load in Battle Lounges, allowing players to locate competition in their region.
  • Training Mode: User Settings Saved
Training Mode settings will now save and carry over to the next time the mode is accessed.
  • Matchmaking Improvements
It should now take less time to find an opponent in online matches, and logic will be added to avoid frequently being matched with the same opponent repeatedly.
  • Fighter Profile Stats
More detailed stats will be tracked and presented on your Fighter Profile.
  • Country/League Based Rankings
Players will be able to filter leaderboards based on Country or League.
  • Friend Management System
In addition to adding a player to your Favorites, you will be able to add Friends and follow them on CFN. You will also be able to Blacklist players.
  • Interactive Timeline
On the CFN home menu, a live feed of your Friends’ activities will be presented on an interactive Timeline. Using the Timeline, you will be able to immediately add a recent match to your Replay List, view a Fighter Profile, manage your Friends, and adjust Timeline display settings.
  • In-Game Announcer Voice
The in-game announcer will give you stats on both you and your opponent using data pulled from the server.

No date has been yet revealed for when these changes will become officially part of the main title.
