Street Fighter V’s “Illuminati Secrets” Mystery Solved: Capcom Pro Tour and Swimsuit Costume Easter Eggs Found

On Friday, Capcom posted the mysterious #Illuminatisecrets image to Street Fighter’s Twitter feed, teasing a possible method to alter Necalli and Chun-Li’s Capcom Pro Tour premium costumes. The mystery didn’t last long, as the button code to modify the costumes–in a similar method to selecting Urien’s classic look–has been discovered.

Steam user “The Who” has posted the code to Street Fighter V’s Steam discussion page; to alter these costumes, the player must press and hold LP+MP+HP+LK and hold UP on the joystick after selecting their character, and hold this combination until the match begins. It can also be activated in between rounds, if it wasn’t at the beginning of the match.

This causes slight modification to the look of the Capcom Pro Tour costumes: Necalli loses his coat, Chun-Li her feather boa, and Cammy her vest. The extra surprise: it also affects the premium swimsuit costumes! It removes Karin’s sun hat and glasses, Chun-Li’s skirt, Ibuki’s scarf (but not mask), Laura’s jersey, R. Mika’s hoodie, and Cammy’s extra gear.

This has been tested and confirmed on PlayStation 4 as well. Go give it a try!

Thanks to Saki for the tip.

Trouble in the Russian Skies? EX Borscht Dynamite Glitch and More in This Zangief Street Fighter V Mini-Roundup

More Muscle Power for you!

Urien’s the sexy new man on the roster, but Zangief has been going shirtless in Street Fighter V since the beta! How about we catch up with the Red Cyclone a bit? Here’s some tips that both beginners and more advanced Zangief players might find useful.

Firstly, as some Zangief mains may already be aware, there seems to be a bit of a glitch with Zangief’s EX Borscht Dynamite–the aerial SPD. Because of the EX version’s strike-type hitbox, it trades when met with a simultaneous strike–as opposed to the regular version, where the grab will succeed in the same frames. TGL GiefKid breaks this unusual property down in the video below:

This aspect of Zangief’s EX Borscht Dynamite was actually brought up by GiefKid back in July, a fact that he has gently teased SRK about for not reporting sooner, while he calls for it to be patched out.

While you watch out for that, don’t stop working on your combos! Check out these meaty Cyclone Lariat combos from Rafalibe Makoto, some leading into the aforementioned EX Borscht Dynamite, or closing with a Critical Art:

On the more strategic side: Mr. Slay N Man offers this “Lazy Lesson,” discussing ways to build some extra meter while playing Zangief:

Keep Her the Strongest Woman in the World with These Meaty Setups for Chun-Li in Street Fighter V

Make your opponents fear the cat-punch!

She’s either top tier, or just plain overpowered; but if Chun-Li is your fighter of choice, you know it still takes some doing to leverage her strengths in Street Fighter V. We recently featured “max-damage” combos for The Strongest Woman in the World, but you’ll want to make sure you have a number of solid meaty setups to keep your pressure on, too. NurseLee provides just that in the video below: ten meaty setups with their usual clear annotations, to help you integrate these into your bag of tricks. Show them your Kung-Fu!

What “Illuminati Secrets” Are Capcom Hiding in Street Fighter V?

Perhaps Urien isn’t the only one with a hidden costume?

Capcom posted this to Twitter earlier today, and asked a single cryptic question:

sfv_illuminati_secrets_1
sfv_illuminati_secrets_2

The clear “differences” in question are the absence of costume components on both Necalli and Chun-Li’s Capcom Pro Tour outfits–Necalli’s coat and Chun-Li’s feather boa. This has lead to speculation that the modified costume is selectable by a button-press code, in the same way Urien can switch to his Street Fighter III look (hence the suspicious “Illuminatisecrets” hashtag); however, the reduced life bars have led others to consider that the costume parts have been “knocked off,” in a sort of battle damage.

sfv_costume_tease_differences

So far, no one has confirmed publicly which–if either–of these ideas is correct, or indicated a successful in-game replication; it is possible that whatever feature Capcom is teasing here may not even be part of the latest patch, and instead bound for a future update. We’ll be keeping an eye out for the answer!

Thanks to Isaac for the tip.

Nash Still Has a Few Surprises to Share in This Street Fighter V Video

How many of these tricks and bugs have you found?

At closer examination, every Street Fighter V character has unique quirks and twists that most players haven’t discovered–especially if the fighter in question isn’t your main.

Nash–while not topping the tier list yet–is still a popular and powerful pick–he was the weapon of choice for the Evo 2016 SFV champ, after all. Still, as seen in LiangHuBBB’s video below, there may be some things about Nash you don’t know yet. Check out the video for what LiangHuBBB has found for interesting links, bugs, and character-specific interactions for Charlie Nash. How many have you encountered firsthand?

Overwatch fans will also enjoy the second half of the video!

Kneel When in His Presence! desk Explores Street Fighter V’s Urien

Urien seems well suited to desk, with the juggling and reflecting shenanigans his V-trigger can set up.  I always get a kick out of desk’s videos, and what he’s been up to with Urien is as fun as ever.

Frame 3:
Rashid SFVThe Spirit of the Turbulent Wind Captured in This Acoustic Cover of Rashid’s Street Fighter V Theme

I’m a sucker for great video game tunes–Rashid’s theme is possibly the catchiest addition to Street Fighter V’s soundtrack, and this cover does it right by mixing it up, while retaining the spirit of the music and the character. Bravo!

A bit of nationalism here–as a Brit, I can’t help but feel proud of how great an event EGX 2016 turned out to be. I’ve also been beaten by Ryan Hart a few times, so I can feel for the poor guys and girls that he left in his wake on his way to a second place finish.

Last Stock Legends Recount the History of the Wombo Combo in Their Latest Documentary Episode

Most of the Smash community have seen that Wombo Combo video. Hell, most of them could probably recite it word for word. It’s one of the most well-loved Smash moments in history, and it’s fascinating to see what went down behind the scenes. Last Stock Legends deliver top notch quality and some great insight into the moment, producing a mini-doc that is well worth a watch.

Frame 3:

I hate to be predictable, but how could I look past the Panzer 3? Jasen’s Customs have a well-deserved reputation for quality, and the Panzer series are sticks worthy of their namesake. It’s exciting to see that his next additions to the line are almost ready, and I’m well prepared to stare enviously when the photos start rolling in.

Street Fighter V’s Latest Update Fixes Survival Mode Bug

As we reported previously, the September 22 update evidently introduced a bug to Survival Mode that prevented players from receiving earned rewards upon completion. Last night, Capcom rolled out a patch to both platforms to address this.

The patch apparently also addresses an issue of cross-play compatibility that arose between the PC and PlayStation4 versions of the updated game. VesperArcade headed to his YouTube Channel to discuss the patch–and its purpose–in a little more detail, in the video below:
