VesperArcade Warns of Street Fighter V’s New Survival Mode Bug

The Street Fighter V September update reduced many players’ motivation to fire up Survival Mode, by making the coveted costume colors unlockable by spending Fight Money (or real money); but there still remain the rewards of XP and Fight Money for slogging through the reviled mode. However, you might want to hold off trying to get those rewards from Survival for a little while.

VesperArcade reports that on both PC and PlayStation 4, a glitch has surfaced in Survival Mode (Normal difficulty and above) that–logged into the server or not–that prevents a player from receiving rewards for the mode’s completion. As if Survival Mode could get get any worse–be warned that some real frustration might be in store for you at the end if you try to earn that extra Fight Money right now.

Xuses Brings Us More Amazing Street Fighter V Comebacks

As we’ve said before, between the Variable Gauge and the removal of non-super chip KOs, Street Fighter V is well-built to enable players to turn a match around if they have the skill–and maybe more than a little luck. Comebacks like this are a joy to watch for everyone–well, maybe not the player that thought they were about to win, unless they’re a good sport about it.

Here’s a new video from XusesGB chock-full of such great comebacks. How quick the tables can turn!

You can check out Xuses’ prior collection of Street Fighter V comebacks here.

Kneel When in His Presence! desk Explores Street Fighter V’s Urien

September 22 saw Urien’s official release for Street Fighter V; it comes as no surprise that desk has been all over the recently-added Illuminati. We included his pre/post-release comparison video in our first tech roundup, but here’s three more for followers of the Vice President to consider.

In the first two, desk is up the usual shenanigans of using Urien’s tools–especially Metallic Sphere and Aegis Reflector–to build some elaborate juggles and combos at midscreen or the corner. The second video focuses a bit more on what can be done with the Aegis Reflector’s ability to bounce back projectiles…

… Which includes Ibuki’s V-trigger bomb! In this video, desk examines exploiting this further–as the bomb’s blast itself is reversed on Ibuki if it touches the Reflector, allowing for it to be co-opted into Urien’s own combos.

Don’t forget to (un)dress for success while selecting Urien!

Beware the Poison Spider’s Bite: Anti-Airs and Other Techniques for Street Fighter V’s Juri

The Illuminati are taking over Street Fighter V–but they’re not the only threat! Prior DLC roster addition Juri still has her fans. and if you’re looking to expand your Juri techniques, marlonlonmilk has these videos to offer.

In this first video, marlonlonmilk examines what anti-air options Juri has available and how to apply them against various other cast members:

In this video, you can check out a variety of nasty frame traps, and means to exploit proximity guarding:

Rise of the Secret Society: Urien Day One Roundup for Street Fighter V

The Illuminati have officially arrived in Street Fighter V, and even though his General Story build has been in-game for a while now, Urien’s promotion to full playability heralds the natural rush of new videos exploring what this power-hungry sadist can dish out. Let’s get started!

Welcome, Mr. Vice President. Your opponents are waiting for you.

Maybe it’s best to warm up with the basics. Here’s VesperArcade’s guide to Urien’s trials:

YouTuber neekogaming offers up this breakdown of practical Urien combos:

Moving on: marlonlonmilk has prepared this video of various frame traps, combos, and resets.

PAN brings us this little guide to some nasty Aegis Reflector applications:

Urien’s Dominant Crush Critical Art appears to have “interesting” properties; here it is comboing off of a throw:

And from his sweep (apparently only works on hard knockdown or normal recovery):

Here’s a combo from GGP|Kazunoko worthy of the Illuminati:

EG|Justin Wong is enjoying his time in the Urien lab as well:

XusesGB has uploaded some video of fLoE taking the Vice President online, and going up against some tough opponents:

Lastly, for those interested in how Urien has changed from the original General Story version to the official release, desk has started to examine and document exactly that.

Oh–and if you prefer Urien’s classic look, make sure to check out the means to select his Street Fighter III costume. Thanks to everyone that sent in tips!

Street Fighter V Anti-Cheat Patch Raises PC Security Concerns, Capcom to Rollback Changes

The Street Fighter V September update brought in Urien and a host of other features–but for PC users, one such “feature” is Capcom’s patch to shut down cheating. Some will applaud and some will decry the intention, but it’s causing technical issues for many PC players–and an aspect of this patch points to what may be a significant security issue for PC Street Fighters.

According to Ars Technica (and examinations on a number of Reddit threads), because of Capcom’s client-side (rather than external) verification of your in-game unlockables and purchases, Capcom’s anti-cheating protocol grants kernel access to your system–“drill[ing] into a client’s kernel access to make sure users are playing nice,”–in a manner that could be “back-door” exploited. Read Ars Technica’s full breakdown of the kernel concerns here; as well as discussion on Reddit here and here.

Capcom seems to be taking user concerns seriously, however, and have spoken up on Twitter:

Hopefully this matter is resolved quickly–and effectively–for the PC side of the Street Fighter V community! Thanks again to everyone who sent in tips on this issue.

The Return of Agent Shadow? Street Fighter V Modder Reveals “Genbu” Nash

While the PC side of the September 22 Street Fighter V update is causing some users some issues, a new patch means new data to be mined: and a modder claims to have found an alternate costume for Nash that calls back to his Agent Shadow days.

It appears very similar to Nash’s existing Story costume, and reportedly has only a few selectable colors. While the video refers to it as “Jenbu” Nash, the screenshot linked in the video description shows the name “Genbu” for the costume–more likely correct, as Genbu could be translated as “mysterious warrior,” keeping with the Shadow theme:

We’ll have to wait and see from Capcom exactly what the answer is to this mystery of “Genbu/Jenbu Nash.” Thanks to smartturtle for the tip.

The SRK Rollback: Week of September 17-22, 2016

Welcome to the Rollback: a frame-by-frame look back at our past week’s most notable news and our favorite SRK articles from September 17 to September 22, 2016!

[Editor’s note: Street Fighter V has dropped a frame of input latency (from 8F to 7F) on PlayStation 4 with the September 22 update, so it’s as good a time as any to bump the SRK Rollback a day back to its new Friday morning spot!]

When Chun-Li is discussed in relation to Street Fighter V, it seems to usually be to point out how overpowered she is, or how “boring” she is to fight/watch. Some of my favorite players main Chun-Li, and I still stand behind my old favorite–I’ll be trying these combos out in the lab myself.
