Everyone has a fighting chance
While the registration totals were already reported, there apparently was some confusion in the community as to when the registration deadline for Evo 2018 actually was. And so, Evo has re-opened registration for an extension until midnight tonight: 11:59 PM PT, July 20th, to be exact.

Evo 2018 registration is now closed, and the total number of competitors in each main stage title have now been revealed! After leading in registration numbers for pretty much the whole sign-up period, Dragon Ball FighterZ came out with the highest registration over Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition by just over a hundred players. Also notable is how strong a draw Tekken 7 still proves to be!

Following the reveal of the SoulCalibur VI Qanba Obsidian, Qanba isn’t done working with Bandai Namco on stylish new sticks. Two more themed controllers are coming from Qanba, this time to celebrate the Tekken World Tour.
From the press release:
Bandai Namco and Qanba have prepared for the next battle by producing two limited edition Tekken World Tour Edition joysticks, the signature Drone and Obsidian! These joysticks will be standard price and are slated to go on sale in Q4 in the US and select regions. Regional availability and shipping date may be subject to change.
The Drone faceplate features the iconic crying Heihachi art while the Obsidian depicts the Tekken 7: Fated Retribution cast in 8-bit art.
“My aim was to create designs that would still be classy and relevant even after TWT 2018 is over, like a cool collector’s piece encapsulating one of the biggest years in Tekken,” says Kaydie, Qanba USA Community Manager and designer of the joysticks. “I had a ton of fun designing these joysticks and I hope that they will make you feel proud to be a Tekken fan.”
Look for these sticks to hit the market later this year, Tekken fans!

SNK’s upcoming fan-service-packed tag team fighter SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy has a new trailer to introduce you to the playable cast and the game’s many features. After a brief overview of the fighting gameplay, take a look at the online functions and the extensive customization options, including the “Photo Shoot” mode that allows you to take pictures of your customized Heroines.
The most recent character announced for SNK Heroines: Tag Team Frenzy was Mui Mui. The title will launch for Switch and PlayStation 4 on September 6 in Japan, and September 7 in the West.

After its announcement at E3 2018, the community had their patience rewarded with confirmation that Nintendo would be bringing a new version of Super Smash Bros. to the Nintendo Switch system in December 2018: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This update to the series will offer a myriad of new gameplay mechanics — and feature the inclusion of every Super Smash Bros. fighter that has appeared in the series before, alongside newcomers Daisy, Inkling, and Ridley!
Events showcasing a playable build of the upcoming title have so far been few — but the fighting game community is about to get a chance to get some hands-on experience at the biggest venue of the year.
Evo 2018 will have an early demo of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game on hand for attendees to try for themselves!
Super Smash Bros. has long been a central part of Evo; this year continues to see the classic Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U games both featured as main stage events, with Super Smash Bros. Melee also part of the World Finals on Sunday. Thousands of fans will be in attendance at Las Vegas to compete and celebrate this series, including the best players in the world. There simply isn’t a better place to experience Super Smash Bros. Ultimate than at the ultimate fighting game event of the year!

To keep the hype rising as we approach the game’s October 26 release date, Bandai Namco Entertainment has released a new trailer for the upcoming arena fighter My Hero One’s Justice, based on the My Hero Academia anime. The trailer shows off plenty of in-battle gameplay, but also showcases the game’s story mode (featuring separate paths to explore both Hero and Villain backstories) and customization features. This weekend is another double-header for the RED BULL CONQUEST circuit: this time Dallas, TX and Saint Paul, MN will be the arenas for two more qualifier events. The action starts on Saturday, July 14th. Hopefuls will test their skill in Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, and Tekken 7 to earn qualifying spots for the National Finals in Washington, D.C. in November. From the press release:
Red Bull Conquest continues this weekend with the search for Dallas and Saint Paul’s top fighting game competitors! On Saturday, July 14, the two cities will play host to fighting game enthusiasts as they battle it out to determine each city’s top players in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, TEKKEN 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2. The winners from each city will earn the title as their region’s best, and will travel to Washington, D.C. this November to compete in the Red Bull Conquest National Finals.
In addition to the rousing competition, both cities will have notable FGC competitors in attendance. Being no stranger to the fighting game scene, it’s no wonder that some of Saint Paul’s finest will be coming out to play. Among them are Street Fighter champ Joe “Mo-Joe” Porter, winner of Chicago’s Frosty Faustings X in Chicago last January, and “Mahreen,” known for her show-stopping cosplay and cutthroat SFV moves. Meanwhile in Dallas, avid Street Fighter athlete and part-time esports commentator Jarret “Magneto1080p” Austin will be in attendance.

ELEAGUE is back tonight to resume the battle at the 2018 ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Invitational. The top eight competitors have fought their way out of their respective Groups and into the bracket for the Playoffs, and are ready to vie for that top prize.
