Zero Dimension looks to provide a classic-style versus fighter with in-development indie “Cerebrawl”

Is an “Imagination Bomb” about to be dropped on the fighting game market?

Indie developer Zero Dimension seeks to take players back to the good ol’ days of hand-drawn sprites and 2D fighting action with their in-development project Cerebrawl. Inspired by classic Street Fighter and the Marvel Vs. games, it’s a potentially fresh look at what was great about old school fighting games. It’s currently in a crowdfunding stage, with the target being Steam Early Access.

From Cerebrawl‘s Kickstarter campaign page:

Cerebrawl is a fully hand-animated, 2v2 4-player tag-team fighting game. As a team, you and your partner can use several assist options available to maximize your damage. Cerebrawl is inspired by games such as the Marvel vs. Capcom series and their robust tag-team systems, but focuses on breaking each character out to a respective player. While it takes many notes from the VS series of games, it has become a beast of its own during its time in development. Cerebrawl is built on the idea that players not only need to know their character and the depth of their moveset, but also how players can best work together as a team to defeat their opponents.

The game’s core features revolve around competitive play with future features including 1v1 and 1v2 modes, a full button check system built into the character select, and tournament mode with a fully automated bracket system… we are also excited to add stage breaks into the game, a system where players can break down parts of the stage to either extend or narrow the size of the play space and change the meta on the fly.

On the story and setting:

Harmon City was a typical modern metropolis. But when an Imagination Bomb is detonated at the center of the city, Harmon City and its inhabitants are changed forever.

As the blast engulfs the region, the minds of the people start spilling into the reality. Reality can’t hold all the different thoughts and possibilities, and when the content of everyone’s psyche start to collide, each individual is thrust into their own dimension. In these pocket dimensions, each citizen of Harmon City grow new worlds based on their ideals and desires.

As fast as these worlds start to form, the pocket dimensions begin to re-collapse into reality. The many dimension-worlds start spiraling back into the place from which they came, but Harmon City has only limited space. The people who were merely residents of the city now have a chance to form their environment, but to do so they need to fight for real estate, as their dimension-worlds will need space to take root in the newly forming Harmon City.

Aside from it’s classic 2D aesthetic, one of the biggest draws to the game is the hip-hop inspired soundtrack — very reminiscent of Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike — to be provided by 2 Mello, featuring Mega Ran, K Murdock, Open Mike Eagle, and Time Machine.

The future of Cerebrawl may be a bit uncertain, however, as it only has a few days left in its “all-or-nothing” crowdfunding campaign, and has reached less than 10% of its funding goal. You can check out design concepts, character descriptions, preview videos, and download a demo on Cerebrawl‘s Kickstarter page.

Another way to take the fight on the road with you.

Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition — the latest mobile iteration of the Street Fighter IV series — has been available on the iOS platform since last fall, but Android users have long been left out in the cold in respects to a new mobile Street Fighter. That has changed today, as the game has now arrived on the Android platform as well!

The game is available as a free trial-sized download, with a $4.99 USD upgrade to the full version. It features HID and bluetooth controller support, if you’d rather not use the on-screen touch controls. You can find it on the Google Play store.

BornFree considers the overabundance of Dragon Ball FighterZ’s Goku variations in this comedy skit

How many Goku is too many Goku…?

Super Saiyan Goku, Goku Black, Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku… and now Bardock (Goku’s dad) is incoming, and a “base form” version of Goku is rumored to be coming later… There is a lot of Goku on Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s character roster, even before you start counting his kids.

But Dragon Ball FighterZ has been so wildly successful, maybe the course is clear: the more Goku, the better. Only then will Bandai Namco have the power to crush Capcomarot…

Street Fighter V Extra Battle update: The schedule for the Monster Hunter Crossover Costumes has changed

Take note of the new schedule to ensure you get your favorite character’s new outfit.

Capcom has announced a change to the schedule for the Monster Hunter Crossover Costumes, available in Extra Battle mode by defeating multiple CPU opponents during limited time windows. You have to beat each opponent once during four timed challenges to obtain the costume, so you definitely don’t want to miss any challenges!

While no specific reason has been provided from Capcom, the times and dates for the challenges to obtain Ibuki’s Kirin armor and Ken’s Rathalos armor have been swapped around. See the updated schedules below.

Street Fighter V roundup: Combos, okizeme, Story mode, and trials for Blanka!

The Warrior of the Amazon has arrived!

Blanka tore his way into Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition yesterday as the second DLC fighter in Season 3. Ready to get rollin’ and trollin’ with this beast?

To get you started, marlonlonmilk made a video to help you through Blanka’s combo trials.

Next, move on to combos!

The Prince put together this reel of basic combos:

rooflemonger has also prepared a video to get you started on some combos, as well as a starter okizeme guide for the bestial fighter:

Combo virtuoso desk is already in there of course, this time cramming all three forms of Blanka’s Rolling Attack into a single combo — you see him rollin’, you hatin’…

VesperArcade has uploaded the cutscenes from Blanka’s (rather goofy) Story mode for you viewing enjoyment. Watching this won’t unlock the Blanka-chan costume for you, though — you’ll still have to play through it yourself!

Thanks to everyone that sent in a tip on Blanka tech; be sure to let us know on our tipline if you see some any good Blanka content for a future roundup!

Blanka (or at least his Story costume) is welcomed to Street Fighter V via the #BlankaChan meme

Before Blanka was in Street Fighter V, he was in #BlankaChan.

Blanka Story Mode

Blanka — for better or worse — arrives in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition today, once the server maintenance is completed. The spark-blasting furball has already gotten a big social media boost in advance of his in-game arrival, thanks to his goofy/adorable/terrifying plushie Story mode costume! Twitter users immediately started putting plush Blanka into all sorts of settings, their hilarious results grouped under the #BlankaChan hashtag (before, and after @StreetFighter actually provided the .png to play with). We’re sharing some of our favorites below; while you wait for that patch to download, have a good chuckle at what fans have been doing with Blanka’s crazy costume (and a bit of Photoshop).

Have fun with Blanka tonight, everyone!
