Arkane Studios released their latest action RPG, Prey, last week and it’s already on shaky ground. Despite critical favor and a whole lot of positive word of mouth, we might be witnessing the biggest failure of Bethesda marketing in some time. This week in the RPG Files, we’re going to look beyond Metacritic and what our gaming friends are saying. Although according to Google Trends, they’re not saying much of anything.

Over the years we at MMORPG have attended countless game shows. Every one of them is unique and has surprises that we try our hardest to share with fans. This year however, on the heels of a very strong PAX East we are entering the E3 territory and many of the big game reveals do not seem like they are on the horizon. How will E3 play out in a few months is anyone’s guess, but here are a few theories for you to consider.

I decided to take down the horse’s head. My party had been traveling for a couple of days, it was the middle of the night, and I was on a hunt. In the darkness, I came upon the stranger lifting the severed head on a post, mounted in the animal’s broken body. It was meant to be a curse on a man who had done him wrong, but we were desperate and needed meat. I told him what he wanted to hear and even helped him raise the head before he faded into the trees.

In playing MMOs since Ultima Online there are a long list of reasons why I used to log in every night. As you get older and life kicks in, it becomes harder to find time online. However, there are certain aspects of MMOs that I feel really bring out why we play these games. It is the reason so many independent projects are finding funding now, because we want to play together.

Expeditions: Viking, the indie RPG about raiding, pillaging, and excellent beards, is out this week and it’s worth your attention. No, really, go check it out. See, as a game’s media, we have a habit of collectively talking pushing what’s new and exciting only to turn to the next shiny game with a marketing budget. The little guys tend to get left behind. That shouldn’t happen here. Expeditions: Viking is something special and I’m having a blast digging into it.

The debate on characters in games goes back and forth over the decades. There countless video games with an infinite number of characters, some iconic, some obscure. However this debate is not about who is more popular Sonic or Mario. It is about how games present character choice to a player at the beginning of the game.

Marvel Heroes Omega, the console version of Marvel Heroes, recently went into closed beta on the PlayStation 4. If you’re a new player who’s never experienced Marvel Heroes before or even a veteran of the PC version, there are couple of things going for the console version that you won’t find on PC.
