In a new partnership between CCP, Massively Multiplayer Online Science, University of Reykjavik and the University of Geneva have formed a unique opportunity for players to participate in the search for “exoplanets”, those planets that lie outside of our own galaxy. Using provided data, players will work to reach “comparative consensus on classification of the data” that will then be returned to the University of Geneva for further analysis in locating exoplanets.

Going in to 2017, EVE Online’s Goonswarm Federation is touting its 21,000 members as the largest player organization in gaming history. In addition to EVE, Goonswarm is represented in PlanetSide 2, ArcheAge, Atlas Reactor and H1Z1.

Over the weekend, nearly six thousand EVE Online players set a record for most participants in a simultaneous battle during the final moments of a “Keepstar citadel”, a player constructed structure. The Keepstar was owned by an in-game faction called Circle of Two. Pandemic Legion had been waging war against the “death star” for months and the weekend marked the culmination of their efforts.

Bloomberg is reporting that CCP is “exploring strategic options” to remain solvent including possible sale of the business to potential bidders. This is “according to people with knowledge of the matter” says the report.

CCP Games has announced the successful deployment of the EVE Online Ascension update that most notably brings Clone States into the game, the new features that allows players to take on much of the game for free.

CCP Games is gearing up for next week’s release of EVE Online: Ascension, the paradigm shift away from pure subscription to a free-to-play revenue model. To show off what is coming with Ascension, the team has released a “feature tour” for the expansion. In addition, the new EVE Portal mobile app has been released that gives players the ability to check out character information, send / receive in-game mail, check out the calendar, buy PLEX and much more.

In the midst of the madness surrounding BlizzCon 2016, CCP Games has quietly published a video archive from EVE Vegas 2016 held last weekend. A number of videos has been released that allow interested players to view panels and ceremonies that occured during the gathering.

During this past weekend’s EVE Vegas 2016, CCP Games unveiled its brand new trailer for EVE Online Play For Free version. The free version will launch with the Ascension expansion set for November 15th. Additional details were revealed about skins, new ones to be added and price reductions on already existing ones, improvement to the recruit program and more.

It’s no secret that the EVE Online learning curve for new players is a steep one. A new post on the EVE Online site discusses forthcoming changes to the system that will arrive on November 8th with the Ascension update. The new player experience even got its own spiffy name: Inception.
