New King of Fighters XIV Trailer Introduces Team Women Fighters: Mai, King, and Alice

With the game merely days away, Atlus drops what will probably be the last trailer before the game officially launches. There are players who have gotten their hands on the title early, and a lot of players have been slaving over the demo to explore the new game, but most of us won’t be getting our hands on the full game until next week.

The trailer this time around features the beautiful brawlers King, Mai, and the new fighter Alice. Mai and King are longstanding members of the KOF franchise and are pretty well known–especially with Mai being in the PSN demo–but Alice is a fresh face, outside of Pachinko machines.

Ed Boon Talks with IGN on the Possibility of New Characters Via Costume Customization, Such As Reverse Flash

One of the unique things about NetherRealm Studios’ upcoming Injustice 2 is the gear system: this system allows players to change certain character attributes by changing the costume pieces they’re wearing. As part of IGN’s live coverage from Gamescom, they talked to NetherRealm’s Ed Boon to discuss the possibility of using this system to explore characters similar or related to those already in game’s cast. One example would be having gear for the Flash that would essentially turn him into his nemesis, Reverse Flash.

Additionally, this would also allow NetherRealm to add in specific versions of characters from certain eras in DC’s long history, representing how their looks and abilities have changed over the years. This is reflected in the recent Injustice trailer, where Harley is briefly seen wearing her traditional red and black jester hat, instead of her new Suicide Squad-based design.

Of course, that’s not all they talk about in the video; Boon does talk about the recently revealed characters Harley Quinn and Deadshot, while going over some gameplay footage of the two.

FGC Raw is Now Live: Watch Episode 1, Featuring LI Joe

Of the many people whose stock rose after Evolution 2016, Joe “LI Joe” Ciaramelli is perhaps at the top of the list. The last American survivor in the Street Fighter V top 8, Ciaramelli has rapidly become a hero of sorts for the American FGC. While already well-known for his appearances in documentaries such as “I Got Next,” and “FGC: Rise of the Fighting Game Community,” he has still typically been in the peripheral vision of the community, with his most prominent role as of late being one of the organizers of East Coast Throwdown. However, after gaining international prominence by placing fifth in Street Fighter 5 in its inaugural year at Evolution, LI Joe has become a big name in the community–balanced out by his amazing humility in the limelight.

Now, with more media attention on the FGC and its players than ever, FloKO has launched its own documentary series, known as FGC Raw–and their first subject is none other than the American people’s champion himself. They go over his competitive history, as Joe retraces some of his footsteps through his competitive career in Long Island and New York City. A more candid interview with the man than even Ian Cofino had in “I Got Next,” Joe talks about his life in gaming, his mother’s fatal bout with cancer, and even shares his air travel superstition.

For those who can’t get enough of Ciaramelli, do yourself a favor and watch the video.

Japan Prepares to Defend the House This Weekend as dT|Dabuz, Nairo and Mr.R Come to Compete at Umebura S.A.T.

Almost a year on from Umebura F.A.T. in Tokyo, Japan is readying itself to fend off threats from across the sea as Nairo, Mr.R and Dream Team’s Dabuz are attending Umebura S.A.T. this weekend. Nairo actually won Umebura F.A.T. in 2015, and based off his performance at Super Smash Con last weekend, he may be set to take this second anniversary tournament. However, it’s unlikely that Dabuz, Mr.R and Japanese heavy hitters like Komorikiri, Kirihara and Abadango will let Nairo simply take the first place trophy without a fight.

As usual, SHI-Gaming will be providing the stream for the event, so tune in over the weekend to see how Japan will do on home turf, after many of their top players have had experience playing America’s best. Unlike Nairo, Dabuz and Mr.R have yet to play on Japanese soil, so they will have to adapt quickly to the Japanese meta if they want to make their way through the Winners’ bracket unscathed.

Haitani Shows Us How to Beat Street Fighter V’s Fuzzy Jump Option Select, with Another Option Select

One of the first option selects found for Street Fighter V was the fuzzy jump. This defensive technique, performed by inputting up-back alongside a throw input, allows players to block a meaty attack, tech a throw, or just jump backwards with a short kick depending on what their opponent does. While Capcom weakened this in one of their first updates for the game, it’s still something that players have to watch out for when pressing their advantage.

To help deal with this option select, MJS.YOUDEAL’s Tatsuya Haitani has developed a counter option select of his own. In a video that he recently shared on Twitter, he performs a low short with a forward dash option select to beat the jump/throw option select.

If the opponent performs the fuzzy jump, the attacking character will whiff a short kick and dash forward allowing them to anti air. If they don’t perform the option select however, then the short kick will connect, allowing the attacker to continue their pressure.

While Haitani demonstrates the counter option select with Necalli, the technique will likely work with any other character with a similar, quick normal.
