SoulCalibur VI’s various game modes are highlighted in a new trailer from Bandai Namco

How on the heels of the confirmation that Cervantes is in the game, Bandai Namco has released yet another trailer for SoulCalibur VI.

The new trailer, which can be seen below, highlights the various game modes that are in SoulCalibur VI. These include the now ubiquitous arcade, training, and versus modes. In addition to this we also get a look at the Create-A-Soul mode, as well as the game’s two more in-depth single player story modes.

The first of these “Story – Soul Chronicle” goes over the events of the original SoulCalibur, and includes a story for each of the existing cast. On the other hand, the other story mode, “Story – Libra of Soul”, is a separate story mode for characters players have created in Create-A-Soul mode.

SoulCalibur VI launches on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on October 19.

Get started in Killer Instinct with novriltataki’s mini-guide for beginners

It’s never too late to pick up a quality fighting game.

Shin Hisako Killer Instinct

Killer Instinct may have suffered the most from the push of fighting games on to Sony’s platform; getting left behind when players and venues are focused on the PlayStation 4 instead of the Xbox One did the title no favors in growing a fanbase. It still did so despite this hurdle, now the game is available via Windows 10 or Steam — while it may not have cracked the PlayStation problem, it is certainly available to a much wider audience.

And it is for this reason that novriltataki has put together this mini-guide for newcomers to the game — not only to help new players pick up on Killer Instinct‘s distinct gameplay mechanics, but to also show those that haven’t tried the game what unique and interesting ideas the title has been brewing up while we have been distracted. With a big shout-out to the learning value of the game’s impressive Shadow Lab feature, novriltataki then proceeds to break down the game’s general systems and mechanics.

Tekken 7 Season 2 roundup: Optimized Anna bread-and-butter, Akuma wall-to-wall combo, and more!

Season 2’s 1,600 changes in Tekken 7 means that we’ll likely be seeing new combo routes and tech for some time. It’s a new day — let’s dash in and see what the community has been up to!

First up, DdtOnz demonstrates the incredibly rare wall-splat-to-wall-splat combo. Thank you for your service, Kuma’s hurtbox.

Next, Androktasai shows off what is likely one of the highest damage DF+2 infinite stage combos in the game. Anna may have some short comings as far as her punishment game is concerned, but she hits like a truck to make up for it.

When you think of top level Jin players in Tekken 7, Korea’s CherryBerryMango almost certainly comes to mind. Here’s his stab at tackling Season 2 changes for the one-time Zaibatsu CEO.

I AM OP would like to raise awareness that giving Chloe a manual back-turn transition allows silly wall combo damage to happen.

They also want you to know that Josie’s new CD 1+2 is great.

Amy Lionheart goes over the changes to previously under-utilized Miguel. Are his season 2 changes enough to increase his profile in tournaments?

Last, but certainly not least, mastermind‘s 1 1/2 hour+ feature length film is almost enough time to cover the complex toolkit of new DLC character Lei Wulong.

Thanks to everyone that submitted content to us! If you have some Tekken 7 tech you’d like to share with the world, reach out to us through our tipline.

Catherine: Full Body arrives in Japan on February 14

Which of these three lovely ladies will you celebrate Valentine’s with?

Catherine: Full Body, the updated re-release of the fighting game community’s favorite competitive block puzzler game, finally has a release date in Japan. Players over in the Land of the Rising Sun will get to purchase the game for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita come Valentine’s Day: February 14, 2019.

The game will come in two version, a standard edition that will retail for ¥7,980, and a limited edition that will go for ¥13,980. The latter adds a slipcase, four-disc soundtrack CD, art book, and special DLC set.

For those wondering about what’s been added to Catherine: Full Body, the game now features a third potential love interest: Rin, the pianist of the bar that protagonist Vincent frequents. In addition to this, the game will feature 500 stages (twice the amount of the original), 20 minutes of additional animated footage, an Arrange Mode with new mechanics, as well as the ability to change Catherine’s voice. Miyuki Sawashiro (Catherine’s main voice actor) and Mamiko Noto (Persona 3‘s Fuuka Yamagishi) will be joined by nine additional voice-overs that will be available as DLC.

More importantly — at least for competitive players — the game will now come with online play.

As for a Western release, the publisher has yet to offer any date for it. That said Atlus is planning a livestream on NicoNico to reveal more information (including a new trailer) on September 15, at 7:00 PM Japan time (5:00 AM Western). In the meantime, check out these new screenshots from Famitsu.

Lock down the opposition with this Blade Strangers combo guide for Liongate

We previously praised the combo flexibility of Blade Strangers with a combo video of the close range juggernaut Master T. But lest you think it’s only the dive-kickers that get to hit hard, here’s one of the games primary zoners getting in his own juggles:

Combos are organized from simple, repetition penalty loops to more advanced juggles involving EX Fireball and re-floats with jump-ins. This makes this an excellent source to start learning one of the game’s most flexible characters, and build up a working knowledge of the various juggle extension states available in the game.

ACA NEO GEO Samurai Shodown is on sale on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch

With the announcement of the new Samurai Shodown, some players might be looking into trying some of the older games in the series. If you’re one of those players, then you’re in luck: the ACA NEO GEO version of original Samurai Shodown is currently on sale for PlayStation 4 and Switch.

The ACA Neo Geo release of Samurai Shodown is currently subject to a 40% discount on both the PlayStation Store and Switch eShop from now until September 19. This means that interested players can grab a copy of the game on those systems for only $4.79, instead of the usual $7.99.

Hamster corporation’s ACA NEO GEO titles are basically the original arcade titles running on modern consoles via emulation. This means that those who purchase Samurai Shodown will get to experience this classic game as it first appeared on the original NEO GEO back in 1993 — nothing added, nothing removed!

The Immortal Pirate Cervantes officially joins SoulCalibur VI’s Stage of History in newest trailer

“Taste my power!”

It’s been a long journey, but the Cervantes trailer has finally landed on SoulCalibur VI’s shores.

Cervantes is a bad man in every sense of the term — he has served as the series antagonist since inception, his very form twisted and mutated by the curse that forces him to pursue Soul Edge for eternity. His life, if it’s still a life at all, is intertwined with the fate of the evil blade.

One of the more interesting surprises in the trailer is the first mid-combo Lethal Hit we’ve seen in game-play: his old B2 air throw gunshot. It could very well be clever editing, but if it isn’t, then that means either B2’s air combo has a Just-Frame input, or there could be moves whose lethal hits state is dependent on actions outside of landing the move itself — a unique idea, if so!

Soul Calibur VI launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam on October 19th, 2018.
