Dezmu Talks All Things Metal Blade in Latest Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Guide

If you’re looking to up your Mega Man game in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the latest Concepts and Combos video from Team Edmonton Gamers may be just what you’re looking for. The guide below focuses specifically on the Metal Blade side of the Capcom hero, but there’s still plenty to learn.

On top of offering otherwise impossible mobility options, using the Metal Blade to take advantage of glide tossing opens up combo options that can lead into early kills, or even just stack on percentage until the Metal Blade decides to vanish. Since the weapon’s random nature can mess with long combos, Dezmu offers follow-ups for each tossing method after only a single connected blade to keep things consistent.

Persona Shares a Double Dose of King of Fighters XIII Combo Videos

Persona’s quest to discover the best combos possible for each character in King of Fighters XIII has brought them back to Mai Shiranui and K’. In the case of Mai, Persona added additional combos to the reel, as those previously discovered were difficult, if not impossible, to improve upon already. And for K’, things got a little crazier thanks to his massive juggle potential.

You’ll find that some of these combos are more practical than others, but many of them will obviously never see their way into a proper match due to any number of reasons. If you’d like to give the strings a shot yourself, you can find the inputs for each in the video descriptions.

Rock Out to These Extended Stage Themes from Street Fighter V

While we’ve heard a lot about the new character themes in Street Fighter V, we haven’t heard so much about the game’s stage themes, which are pretty rockin’ in their own right. Vesper Arcade’s most recent uploads address this oversight, sharing extended versions for Apprentice Alley and Underground Arena from the most recent beta.

The former carries the same guitar heavy vibe as most of the game’s other themes but does so in a way that sounds very representative of the region it depicts, like something you’d hear played on a sitar. The latter, on the other hand, goes for a more electronic sound, fitting the stage’s underground club theme.

For more, ADAPT Chance previously shared the Hillside Plaza and main menu themes.

Street Fighter V launches on PlayStation 4 and PC on February 16.

Killer Instinct Introduces Combo Assist Mode

Over the years, fighting games have tried to provide a gateway to new players with various simplified control options. After asking themselves and the community how to better cater to beginners, Killer Instinct developer Iron Galaxy Studios is ready to introduce their own: Combo Assist Mode.

In short, Combo Assist removes many of the motion-based challenges that comes with pulling off Killer Instinct’s lengthy combos. Assisted combos play out similarly to their more complex siblings: tapping a second attack button during the cancel window of a first will transition your character into a special move. After this opener, another single button press will perform an Auto Double, a technique that already exists in the game, and yet another will throw out an Auto Linker. Ending combos is as easy as holding forward and pressing heavy punch or kick.

While useful for newcomers, the fact that Combo Assist doesn’t cancel out traditional controls means there’s no abrupt change as they move on to more complex motions, allowing smooth growth to more intermediate and advanced techniques. And despite keeping everything else about the game the same, the limits Combo Assist places on a player’s options will eventually necessitate a removal of the training wheels.

Combo Assist will be included as part of Killer Instinct’s next update, full details for which are expected to drop later today.

Sagat Kept Out of Street Fighter V to Maintain Character Balance

It wouldn’t be a stretch to say Sagat is one of the community’s more popular Street Fighter characters, leaving his absence in Street Fighter V all the more perplexing. Executive producer Yoshinori Ono recently addressed this topic during an interview with Famitsu.

“There are many characters that perform similarly [to Sagat]. For this launch and its next update, we wanted to have a good balance of characters,” Ono explains, according to Siliconera translations. “Since we didn’t want to just blindly increase the number of characters, it was a bitter decision that had to be made.”

Of course, there’s still hope. While plans for the second round of post-release characters have yet to be finalized, Ono specifically mentions Sagat and Blanka as fan favorites folks may want to look forward to.

Learn Everything You Need to Know About Staling in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

The Super Smash Bros. series is home to a host of unique mechanics, but few are quite so elusive to new players as the concept of staling. This spam prevention mechanic often impacts a stock more than some folks realize, so the Beefy Smash Doods decided to make a video explaining it.

Since using the same move multiple times in a row can greatly reduce the move’s killing power, it’s important to save your best punishes for securing that stock, even if your opponents offer openings for raw smashes or other powerful attacks.

On top of briefing viewers on how staling works within the game, The Beefy Smash Doods offer some interesting methods for clearing staled moves from the queue through creative use of the environment and, occasionally, the objects your opponents throw.

Watch an Online Street Fighter V Match from Both Players’ Perspectives

One of the new features being touted by Capcom in Street Fighter V is their new ‘Kagemusha’ netcode. By using a rollback functionality first pioneered by Tony “Ponder” Cannon in GGPO, Kagemusha promises smoother netplay compared to that offered by Street Fighter IV.

Now, thanks to a video by BR Chernobly, we can see that netcode in action.

The video below shows a online match as it plays out from two perspectives. With this, you can clearly see rollbacks occur when the game detects a desync. While somewhat jarring on a visual level, this means that the game doesn’t have to use variable input delay to keep matches in sync.
