Protect Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Characters with Assist Priority

A particularly interesting piece of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 information recently surfaced courtesy of Japanese player Cross, who imparted a bit of knowledge on the game thanks to a simple question from Northern California resident Vineeth “Apologyman” Meka.

Earlier today, Apologyman asked on Twitter why Cross chooses his characters in a particular order and then switches while the match loads. While many attributed this to a simple superstition, Arcade UFO owner Ryan “Fubarduck” Harvey stepped in to provide his services. After contacting Cross directly, Harvey was provided with a pretty cool response that shows there is definitely a method to the madness.

According to Cross, each character in a team is assigned priority depending to their position when chosen on the character select screen. This priority determines how they are targeted by enemy attacks, making it possible for certain positions to “protect” others from moves that hit them at the same time. Essentially, you can force the game to recognize certain characters as being in one position before switching them and keeping the original priority.

There are some restrictions, however. This particular technique is exclusive to Xbox 360, and also only works for attacks like Wesker’s gunshot and Doctor Doom’s Hidden Missiles. We should also note that the priority hierarchy (3>1>2) makes it so that the first and second characters can cover for your anchor and the second can cover for your point, but neither the point or the anchor can “protect” the fighter in the second position, if that makes sense.

While not entirely game-changing, the potential to have an enemy’s offense focus on your assists instead of your active character for just a split-second can mean the difference between a loss and a victory. Be sure to experiment with it yourself and see what you can find. And remember, don’t be afraid to ask questions; you never know what you’ll learn!

Add Some Short Hop Mixups to Your Yosuke Tools in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

Though generally hard to find in series’ initial outing, Yosuke Hanamura has seen a surge in representation in Persona 4 Arena Ultimax thanks to a number of beneficial changes between installments. If you’re a player who found themselves switching to the Persona 4 party member in this title but have yet to incorporate his powerful short hop mixups in your gameplan, the following video is definitely worth a watch.

Created in response to Mokke taking home first place with his team at ARC REVOLUTION CUP 2015, Greek Angel imparts a good deal of important information in the guide below, including the technique that made the Japanese player such a dominant force this past weekend. Also keep an eye out for a contribution by Pssychh that shows how Yosuke can utilize his jumping A+B during a hop to fake out opponents expecting it to hit mid like the rest of the game’s normals.

Check Out TheBlackHombre’s Specialized Super Smash Bros. Arcade Stick

One thing that can discourage any player from trying out Super Smash Bros. is the fact that the series isn’t built for traditional fighting game controls. Smash is still best played with a gamepad–preferably the GameCube pad–with an analog stick.

But that hasn’t stopped some players from figuring out how to play the game on an arcade stick. In this new video, FRC|TheBlackHombre explains how he modified an arcade stick, specifically a Qanba Q1, to work with Super Smash Bros.

Most of the work went towards creating a comfortable way of mapping Smash’s inputs onto the eight-button layout. The tricky bit was to allow a semblance of Smash’s analog controls using the standard digital joystick. This was done using a trick that folks who’ve played Smash with a keyboard on the Dolphin emulator might be familiar with: using a separate button to toggle the sticks inputs between full tilt and various degrees of tilt.

Check out the video below to see how this all works.

This Ibuki Turns Ultra Street Fighter IV Matches into Online Training Mode

Olympic Gaming’s most recent Ultra Street Fighter IV spotlight is a little bit different than what we’ve been seeing in past weeks. Mainly, the video runs shorter than usual–not even reaching the ten minute mark–but it’s not for lack of match footage, as there are just as many sets as ever. These matches, however, are often over before they even start thanks to WWBH|Mike.

Mike plays Ibuki. Mike’s approach to Ibuki will likely have a polarizing effect on viewers, but love or hate his tactics, it’s hard to deny that Mike knows his way around a kunai.

Chun-Li’s V-Trigger Provides Useful Juggle Opportunities in Street Fighter V

Last weekend, Capcom quietly conducted an “internal stress test” for Street Fighter V, which led to the game’s beta opening up for a limited amount of time. This allowed a few lucky folks to jump into training mode and even play a few matches online, even if the beta had yet to officially return.

Urichinan, who we’ve featured before in an earlier roundup, took the time to explore how Chun-Li could use her V-Trigger to juggle opponents in the current beta build. These combos include V-Skill launches, as well as some interesting anti-air and air-to-air setups where she can use her V-Trigger’s multi-hit properties to keep her opponents airborne longer than she normally could without it.

Check the video out below and share your thoughts in the comments.
