Atlus and SNK add $5,000 to The King of Fighters XIV prize pool at AnimEVO 2018

The stakes just got raised in The King of Fighters XIV tournament at AnimEVO 2018! Atlus and SNK just announced their addition of five grand to the total prize pool for SNK’s latest KOF entry:

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike tutorial — Ken bread-and-butter combo guide & general notes

In light of Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection‘s release, I’ve been bombarded with requests to do some Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike character tutorials. It warms my heart to think that people want to learn my favorite title in the franchise even twenty years down the line, so I’m only happy to oblige. My latest video is on Ken, who is probably the most-played character both casually and competitively. Ken is very strong in this game, generally agreed to be the third best character overall. Many of his tools, such as his target combo and air EX Tatsumaki, have become signatures of his toolset in later games, so 3rd Strike could be considered Ken’s breakout game.

V-Jump’s first look at base form Goku and Vegeta in Dragon Ball FighterZ

Classics reimagined.

Shortly after being announced, players can now get a quick look at the next DLC characters for Dragon Ball FighterZ, base form Goku and Vegeta, in V-Jump magazine. The scan comes from the trusty YonkouProductions on Twitter and showcases the characters’ renders and special attacks. Goku cranks up his Kaio-ken all the way to 20 and gathers your energy for a devastating Super Spirit Bomb. Vegeta’s Galick Gun looks as sinister as ever and his ruthless Galaxy Breaker surely packs a punch.

Both characters are set to release sometime in early August, with the Nintendo Switch beta opening later that month. Stick around for more news about the new DLC characters and their impending trailers.

Wednesday Night Fights x ESA Oakland debuts tonight with Street Fighter V, Dragon Ball FighterZ, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Tekken 7, and more

You read that right, folks. Level Up|Series, Esports Arena Oakland, and PandoraHouse are teaming up to bring you the latest weekly fighting game stream in northern California with the debut of Wednesday Night Fights x ESA Oakland. With over 120 players registered for tonight’s grand opening, there is going to be plenty of heated competition across games such as Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Tekken 7, BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Guilty Gear Xrd: REV 2, Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late(st), Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Injustice 2.

Dig deep into fundamentals with this Sailor Neptune tutorial for Sailor Moon S

Shoto your way through AnimEVO’s brackets with this primer.

With the largest Sailor Moon S tournament to date coming up in a matter of weeks at Evo 2018, people are now getting fully prepared for their chance at top 4 on the side stage. As such, Xsjado Blade has put out a new video explaining one of the more popular – -as well as strongest — characters in the game.

While Sailor Neptune shares many things with her shotokan brothers — Ryu and Ken — there are still some key differences provided by the core system mechanics that make actually training with her imperative. With guard cancels and differences in frame data, you must study to stand a chance.

A Japanese player modded a Mikado arcade cabinet to use console pads

Traveling to Japan, the mecca of fighting games, carries one condition with it: it’s better if you’re a player who can use arcade sticks, or else you won’t be able to perform at your best at numerous arcade centers you’ll want to visit. Though some tournaments in Japan ran on consoles, for the most part, you have to know how to play on a stick. But this could change in the future, and one person is showing a successful modding of an arcade cabinet that allows players to use some console pads.

TMF posted on Twitter about how they used a USB decoder to hook up pads onto a Mikado arcade cabinet. In further tweets, they said that PS3 and Xbox 360 tended to be less stable and more buggy, and of course, they have to remain wired.

Here’s a video of this in action, with the pad working and using a macro in Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2:

Maybe there’s hope for a future when pad and stick players alike can play on any platform, regardless of preference? This could be an important, first step for arcades to start including USB ports that let pad players bring their own devices.
