Capcom Pro Tour Online Ranking Event Europe West 2 results and replays

The online portion of the 2018 Capcom Pro Tour continued this weekend with the second online Ranking event for Western Europe. Eligible countries included: Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Slovenia, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, France, and Italy. 160 players set out to compete for those crucial points, including NVD|Phenom, RB|Luffy, Method|ImStillDadaddy, and more.

The next online CPT stop will be the second event for Southeast Asia this Saturday, July 21st. The event will begin at 10:00 A.M. SST, with legible countries being Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Registration is currently open at smash.gg, with 34 entrants as of this writing. Top 8 will be streamed at 4:00 P.M. SST, at twitch.tv/capcomfighters, as well as their YouTube Channel and Facebook Page.

Jumping is mandatory in new platform-fighter “Indie Pogo”, now available on Steam

If you just can’t help your urge to jump in other 2D fighting games, then indie game developer Lowe Bros. Studios has created the perfect little indie game for you. Introducing Indie Pogo:

Indie Pogo’s most distinguishing feature is right there in the title — your character’s primary movement is a Pogo-like multi-jump with an attack hitbox designed to set up further combos. There’s a wide cast of guest characters to choose from — Octodad, Kick from Divekick, Welltaro from Downwell, and just to name a few. Hell, even Shovel Knight and Gunvolt were able to take a break from their guest appearance in Blade Strangers to show up!

Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] is coming to Steam on August 20th, 2018

The time has finally come, PC warriors! As the latest version of the Under Night In-Birth, aptly subtitled Late[st], arrived on consoles earlier this year, many fans were eager to see if it would arrive on Steam as well. Arc System Works PC developer Shini just announced the Steam version of the game Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] on Twitter.

The Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] Steam page lists the release date as August 20th, this year (it will be August 21st in Japan). The teaser image Shini posted does list the Force of Fragment digital soundtrack, and he confirmed that it will be available as free DLC until August 28th, a full week after the release. If the Steam version is in-line with the console edition, it should cost $49.99.

For those who don’t know much about UNIST — While it does have a heavy anime aesthetic, it’s unlike typical air-dashers like BlazBlue: Central Fiction or Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2. It’s a bit more footsie-oriented and rewards good defense. At the center of its mechanics lies the GRD system, a sort of tug-of-war mechanic that can shift the tide between players. It features 20 unique characters, most fairly easy-to-approach but difficult-to-master.

Dead Or Alive 6 will have a mini tournament and “super” exhibition match at Evo 2018

As previously reported, Team NINJA is bringing their upcoming 3D fighter Dead Or Alive 6 to Evo 2018. With the game being at the biggest fighting game event on the planet, some may wonder if they’ll have any sort of competition for it. Well, it turns out that they will – Team NINJA will be hosting a mini tournament for their latest Dead Or Alive entry.

The Dead Or Alive 6 mini tournament at Evo 2018 is set to take place after the tournament for Dead Or Alive 5 Last Round. The tournament will have a 75 man limit, so interested players should head on over to Smash.gg to register.

In addition to the mini tournament, Team NINJA will also be hosting a “Super Exhibition Match” at the event. A part of Team NINJA will be inviting top DOA players from around the world to come to Evo.

Dead Or Alive 6 is set to arrive on PC, PlayStation 4, and XBox One in 2019. Meanwhile, Evo 2018 will be taking place at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV from August 3 to 5, 2018.

Evo 2018 presents an event-exclusive arcade stick in partnership with Qanba

If you’re a fan of event-exclusive swag, there’s a new arcade stick on the horizon for you: Qanba, in partnership with the Evolution Championships, unveiled a special Drone Arcade Stick that will only be available at the Los Angeles, CA event Evo 2018.

The stick is compatible with PlayStation 4, and it utilizes Sanwa parts. It also boasts official branding of the Evolution Championship event. What better way to show off that you’re a champion?

Low forward your way to victory with Footsies, the ultimate footsies based fighting game from HiFight

Most people are familiar with HiFight for the various gameplay highlight clips shared on Twitter. However, it turns out that they has something else for fighting game fans — their own game.

In a recent tweet, HiFight announced their own freeware fighting game — Footsies. Here, players only have one attack button, and can only move (walk or dash) either forward or backward. They’re also given 2 normal attacks, a crouching forward kick done by pressing attack, and a standing knee, activated by hitting back and attack. Both of these normal attacks can be cancelled into one of two specials.

The special moves are done by holding down and releasing the attack button. The first of these special moves is a kick reminiscent of Ryu’s “Jōdan Sokutō Geri” from Street Fighter III, done by releasing the attack button without any directions held. The second is a Shoryuken, done by releasing the attack button while pressing either forward or backwards.

The game’s hyper focused gameplay is complimented by its highly abstracted aesthetic. The characters are simple, pixelated outlines, with animations based on Ryu from Street Fighter III. 

In a way, the game takes a similar approach to Divekick. The main difference here is that its core mechanics are built around a more familiar mold — the the footsies and neutral game of games like Street Fighter.

Looking for the best Tekken 7 gameplay Japan has to offer? MASTERCUP 10 is where you’ll want to tune in! The latest entry in the MASTERCUP series was just announced for October 20th, 2018, so mark your calendars. This tournament is both known for its exceptionally skilled players and its unique 5v5 team format.

MASTERCUP’s size has grown exponentially since its inception, even despite the console version of Tekken 7 being ahead of the arcade version.

1035 players attended MASTERCUP 9.

World Warrior FGC shows off lockdown setups after Ken’s Lion Breaker in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Ken’s MK, HK target combo is called “Lion Breaker” in Street Fighter V. I’ve always had a problem with this because I can’t picture a lion going down to two kicks across the face, but I guess that’s neither here nor there:

What matters is whether or not your opponent goes down to the target combo — and with the setups that World Warrior FGC has invented, they certainly will. Demonstrated in the video above, Lion Breaker sets up nicely for Ken’s cross-up tatsu, creates anti 3-frame panic button situations, and allows any correct guesses to convert into big damage.
