Brian_F explains the importance of VTC timing for Balrog’s “Under Impact” in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition pro Brian_F is starting a new quick tips series for Balrog players looking to add nuance to their game. Today’s first discussion breaks down the applications of Balrog’s “Under Impact” target combo (LK,MK,HK), and important information regarding V-Trigger timing with it.

It’s tempting to complete the string when you have V-Trigger on deck — but on both hit and block, Brian argues, you’re better going into VTC on the 2nd hit. This nets you both more damage and frame advantage, as demonstrated in the video above.

Competitors will clash in RED BULL CONQUEST qualifiers at Dallas and Saint Paul this weekend

The CONQUEST continues!

This weekend is another double-header for the RED BULL CONQUEST circuit: this time Dallas, TX and Saint Paul, MN will be the arenas for two more qualifier events. The action starts on Saturday, July 14th. Hopefuls will test their skill in Street Fighter V, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, and Tekken 7 to earn qualifying spots for the National Finals in Washington, D.C. in November. From the press release:

Red Bull Conquest continues this weekend with the search for Dallas and Saint Paul’s top fighting game competitors! On Saturday, July 14, the two cities will play host to fighting game enthusiasts as they battle it out to determine each city’s top players in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, TEKKEN 7 and Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2. The winners from each city will earn the title as their region’s best, and will travel to Washington, D.C. this November to compete in the Red Bull Conquest National Finals.

In addition to the rousing competition, both cities will have notable FGC competitors in attendance. Being no stranger to the fighting game scene, it’s no wonder that some of Saint Paul’s finest will be coming out to play. Among them are Street Fighter champ Joe “Mo-Joe” Porter, winner of Chicago’s Frosty Faustings X in Chicago last January, and “Mahreen,” known for her show-stopping cosplay and cutthroat SFV moves. Meanwhile in Dallas, avid Street Fighter athlete and part-time esports commentator Jarret “Magneto1080p” Austin will be in attendance.

Glasses colors for the Persona 4 Arena characters have been spotted in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s color palette files

Could we see this cosmetic item appear in BBTAG in the future?

One of the unique aesthetic aspects of the Persona 4 Arena series — beyond being able to mix and match character and Persona colors — was the ability to purchase pairs of glasses to be worn in battle, (or some other form of face wear, such as goggles, masks or visors, depending on your character). This served as another bit of fan service in the RPG series, as the members of the Investigation Team would use them in Persona 4 to help them clearly see through the thick fog of the Midnight Channel. These would not only be visible on the character sprites during a match, but would also be added to the Awakening portraits of each fighter, as well as their artwork during Instant Kills.

Though this feature is currently absent for the Persona cast in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, evidence for it appears have been found by data miners, indicating that it was possibly planned at one point — or that it could eventually come to the game as future DLC. Twitter user SeGel2009 even notes that there are glasses colors for the new reference palettes, as well as the trio of DLC colors, for all characters. You can see each character’s full color assortment — with the corresponding glasses for reference — below.

Would you like to see glasses become available for the P4A cast in BBTAG? Sound off in the comments.

The Collective’s Katarina expert L.J.R. talks tournament nerves, secret tech, beating Dimeback, and more

If you play a underrepresented character exceptionally well in Tekken 7, there’s a chance you’ll end up on esports team The Collective. Including representing Nina player Victim of Ritual and Claudio player Amethystlady, The Collective is home to perhaps the rarest character specialist in the Tekken community — Katarina pro LJR.

Perhaps best known for his victories over Korean player Dimeback and Irish Pro Fergus at Final Round 2018, LJR shares his thoughts on balancing fun and performance, hiding tech, and the value of using “fake” setups.

The SRK Rollback: Best of July 6-12, 2018

Welcome to the Rollback: a frame-by-frame look back at our past week’s most notable news — and our favorite SRK articles — from June 29 to July 5, 2018!

Zavian “mushin_Z” Sildra, Editor-in-Chief:

Frame 1:

Rumors: Street Fighter V’s Season 4 roster may include C. Viper, Makoto, Q, Sodom, and others, according to DasVergeben

Likely? Probably not. I refuse to believe they’ll leave E. Honda pruning up in the bath for another season.

Frame 2:
Rinoa Heartilly Dissidia Final Fantasy NT
Rinoa Heartilly from Final Fantasy VIII takes flight in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Somehow, though there were many possible picks for a latter-half FF female addition, I expected it would be Squall’s sweetheart joining the roster. Glad to see Angelo is along to help, too.

Frame 3:

Shoryuken review: Fighting EX Layer is light on content but offers deep and exciting gameplay

This game is a gem, even if it may still be a bit in-the-rough. Go get it. Go play it!

Frame 4:
sfv ae cody knife ready
Composer Daniel Lindholm talks about his work on the themes for Ed, Cody, Zeku, and Sakura in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

I’m a big fan of the new tunes that have been coming to SFVAE, and Zeku’s theme is a contender for my favorite SF character theme… period.

Frame 5:
evo 2018 logo (trailer)
There’s only one week left to register for Evo 2018!

Still haven’t signed up…?! The clock is ticking, better act now and register before you miss out.

NewChallenger shows off the juggle possibilities in Capcom’s forgotten gem — Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein

What I would do to see a modern day sequel for this wild game.

Frame 2:

3rd-person arena fighter “Override: Mech City Brawl” announced for Steam, PlayStation 4, & Xbox One, releasing on December 4th

I feel like we’ve reached a point where 3rd person arena fighters could have their own major, if someone just stepped up and organized it.

Frame 3:
pullum_vulcano_rosso
Vulcano Rosso, Pullum Purna, and arcade mode are coming to Fighting EX Layer for free

Back off. V. Rosso is mine, and mine to play alone.

Frame 4:
evo 2018 nissin cygames 750x400
Evo partners with Nissin Cup Noodles for Evo 2018

Never in my lifetime did I think this would happen, much less twice.

Frame 5:

SoulCalibur VI will have a side tournament at Evo 2018

Casual reminder: Tekken got to be at Evo before the game came out in the US two years in a row.

Bandai Namco drops trailers for Gran Torino and Muscular in My Hero One’s Justice

A few weeks back, Bandai Namco revealed the characters Gran Torino and Muscular for My Hero One’s Justice. Now, they’ve dropped a couple of trailers showing them off.

Gran Torino is an older “retired” hero who takes the main character under his wing. He possesses both increased strength and speed — which he wields in the video below, despite his old age.

Muscular, as his name implies, can increase his muscle mass, using his muscle fibers to cover his body.

My Hero One’s Justice is set to launch on PlayStation 4, XBox One, and PC on October 26.

VesperArcade examines the Season 4 roster rumors for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Is C. Viper really about to infiltrate Street Fighter V?

Thanks to DasVergeben, new rumors are circulating about who we can expect to appear in the next Season of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition — and the list is interesting, for a few reasons! Eight characters, including C. Viper, Makoto, Oro, Necro, Q, and Sodom, along with F.A.N.G’s apprentice Phantom, and another unnamed newcomer? Is this list true — or even likely?

That’s what VesperArcade speculates on in this new video. While quick to point out that he’s not totally convinced of this list (I think few of us are), he delves into the credibility of the picks — pointing out that some of these characters have been trotted out as “leaked” DLC multiple times before, but also that DasVergeben has been right on other non-Street Fighter news recently, such as Ridley coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Check the video out below!

Zaid Tabani brings the beat back with this new Cody theme remix, announces new upcoming album: “Ranbat”

Redrapper is back? It’s about time!

Eight years after his intro to the Evo 2010 Super Street Fighter IV finals, Zaid Tabani — a.k.a. Redrapper — found inspiration in the new version of Cody’s theme for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. The result: this fantastic remix! (NSFW language included.)

And that’s not all: Zaid Tabani’s movie project Ranbat has been transformed into an upcoming album, featuring FGC community mainstays such as Gootecks, James Chen, and Sherryjenix. Look for it on July 27!
