NTSC versions of games like Tekken 3 and Battle Arena Toshinden can be accessed on PlayStation Classic — with a trick

Recently, we reported on the fact that some of the games on the PlayStation Classic, including a couple of fighting games, would be the PAL versions with the incorrect frame rate. Now, a method has surfaced to be able to play these games as the NTSC versions.

The trick to setting the console to play in NTSC simply involves access the settings of the emulator used by the PlayStation Classic. As the video below from Retro Gaming Arts demonstrates, this menu is pretty easy to access: all players need to do is to plug in a USB keyboard, and then press the ESC key.

Doing the above gives full access the the settings for the PCSX ReARMed emulator used by the console. Players can switch to NTSC by going to the “Options” menu and switching “Region” from “Auto” to “NTSC.”

Now, take note that some folks have stated that they haven’t been able to access the menu, and it seems that not all keyboards are recognized by the system. Additionally, as demonstrated in the video, changing some of the other settings can cause the system to crash.

Brian_F demonstrates a devastating hard knockdown setup for Abigail in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition

Hard knockdown into big damage — from what may be a glitch.

One of the most frustrating things about fighting Abigail in Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition is how he can get big damage and steal games with the help of his V-Trigger I. Usually, players have to use the game’s wake-up options to get try to avoid getting hit by the charged unblockable from the V-Trigger.

Now, for those players frustrated by this (or for any Abigail players looking to make him even deadlier), Brian_F has shared a video demonstrating how to perform a setup that leaves the opponent in a hard knockdown state, forcing them to face the unblockable attack head-on.

In the video below, he demonstrates what seems to be a glitch that leaves opponents hit by only the first hit of Abigail’s run flip-kick, into a hard knockdown. By using this set up with V-Trigger I, this pretty much gives Abigail a free unblockable meaty on characters who do not have an invincible reversal.

Of course, Brian also states that he doesn’t expect this to remain in the game for long. Will this be patched out next season? Only time will tell.

Tekken 7 tech roundup — Armor King’s unblockable Rage Drive, Marduk death resets, and more!

Wrestling fans, rejoice — With the surprise drop of version 2.10 of Tekken 7, Marduk and Armor King are running wild and scoring pinfalls all across the world. Both characters have rocketed out of the gate with strong combos and tech — let’s jump in and see what the community has found thus far!

Let’s start with Armor King. The feline heel hits hard thanks to his bootleg Wind God Fist (Dark Upper)…

…and his terrfying mixup game on grounded opponents. You’re gonna want to learn how to break ground grabs, friends.

Armor King’s Great Muta-reference Rage Drive is fascinating — a high unblockable that gives guaranteed grabs, and nothing else. What a terrifying and unique tool.

Now let’s pivot to Marduk. You probably take one look at Marduk and say to yourself “That is a man that can hurt me.” Congrats, you’re right:

Before you can death combo, though, you should probably pick up some more practical BnBs, especially if you’ve never played as the big man before.

His Rage Drive behaves strangely when done after certain extensions, but that won’t stop the Vale Tudo mixup from breaking bones (and lifebars.)

Really makes you wonder what Gigas’s future is, huh?

Capcom Cup 2018 Analysis: Has Luffy prepared enough to make a serious run this year?

Luffy’s name is always on the tip of everyone’s tongue on the Capcom Pro Tour. The 2014 Evo champion is always a threat not only to make the Capcom Cup finals, but also to hit top 8. The problem is, he has yet to capitalize on it and actually do so. Has he found the inner fortitude this year to do so?

Never Giving Mika Up

Over the course of the last couple of years, few people have stuck wholeheartedly with R. Mika. NuckleDu had never spent his entire time playing the character — first starting with Nash, then moving to his mixture of Guile and Mika. Fuudo had long been a bastion of character loyalty, before 2018 suddenly found him using Birdie, at times.

Luffy may be one of only a few players left that remained loyal to his initial character of choice. While MoJoe and ElChakotay have been flirting with the higher levels of competitive play with the character for a while now, Luffy truly is the highest echelon player who relies solely on R. Mika as his weapon of choice. This type of reliance requires him to be fully focused on finding every flaw and strength, and adjusting his playstyle to hide those character weaknesses that other people can just drop by switching.

While counter-picking has become the rule and not the exception, it’s refreshing to see someone stick to their guns so long.

A Binder Full of Results

One thing Luffy has been well-known for through the years is his ability to always be earning points. There is hardly a weekend where Luffy hasn’t made it far enough in a bracket to make points. Eight top 8s speaks in and of itself, with two of these being a Ranking and a Premier win.

But for anyone that had doubts that Luffy could compete on a global stage anymore, he proved he could emphatically with a stunning fifth place performance at Evo 2018. Where he had not reprised his top 8 role at the tournament since his win in 2014, he finally capitalized and found himself in the thick of it once more, stopping short a streaking THE COOL KID93 before falling short to the eventual runner-up — and unmistakably best player in the world — Tokido.

The Travel Problem, Part III

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it every time I’ve talked about Luffy. His biggest problem has been his lack of travel. Guess what? A year hasn’t changed the same issue that’s been discussed about him since 2016.

While focusing on Europe has secured his slot in Capcom Cup, it does not prepare him for Capcom Cup. I’ve routinely said that Europe is one of (if not the) overall weakest regions for Street Fighter, and while there are great players in Europe, that has not changed in one year. Problem X has rectified this issue by going out through the course of 2018, and what a difference that has made in his play. One would think that Luffy would’ve followed suit. But alas, we see Luffy mostly stationary.

When he has traveled, he has had far less prominent results than his British counterpart. Outside of Evo, he placed in the top 24 at Combo Breaker and outside of top 32 at CEO. While his Evo win is impressive, Luffy needs to be able to achieve more where the biggest international presence lies, and he fails to.

Even his premier win at EU Regional Finals is mired by the fact that there hardly any international presence in the top 32. In fact, the only Capcom Cup qualified player who made the top 8 with him was Big Bird — in the top 32, only Phenom, Problem X, and Angry Bird added their names to the list — all EU regional players. This was a bracket Asian or North American representation could have blasted through, meaning the field of high-echelon players were sparse.

Final Thoughts

This all means exactly what I said it meant last year. Luffy is a strong player, but most of the time he is unable to stretch himself outside of his comfort zone to pull off monumental wins. Europe is his comfort zone, and he is more than confident and beating up Europe’s best — even the highly touted Problem X, due to his familiarity with him.

Again, Luffy is about to be dumped into a shark tank filled with Asian, North American, and Latin American players who are familiar with him– either by playing him, or by seeing his videos. He is far less familiar with them, outside of videos. He clearly hasn’t prepared by either playing them outright, or fully preparing for everything they can throw at them.

So sadly, I feel like expecting him to make top 8 — let alone win — is foolhardy. If he’s ever going to make a serious go at taking it all once more, it is imperative that 2019 becomes the wake-up call to start traveling.

Pre-orders are open for the compact Seimitsu LS-33 Kai and LS-33-01 Kai levers at Arcade Shock

Where every millimeter matters, a “compact” lever may be the answer.

Arcade Shock has opened pre-orders for a new variant on the LS-33 lever from Seimitsu, the LS-33-01 Kai compact joystick. This version is now available both with fastener-type connections, and a new 5-pin connector variation that makes for easier compatibility with retail fight sticks.

ARCADESHOCK-2018-11-BANNER-SEIMITSULS33(1)

From Arcade Shock:

The original LS-33 was produced only in the Fastener type, and its main purpose was to be the most compact lever in their lineup for situations where space is limited. This joystick was used primarily in Japanese arcade cabinets, as this was never implemented in any commercial arcade stick. Over the course of a year in our meetings with Seimitsu, we discussed the possibility of reintroducing an improved version of the LS-33, with one modern feature: offer this with a 5-pin variant as well. All the parts of the LS-33 Kai and the LS-33-01 Kai are identical to the original LS-33, except for the plastic base which is slighter taller. The spring is very light, similar to Sanwa Denshi’s JLF stock joystick.

You can pre-order both versions of the stick now at Arcade Shock for $19.95 USD; orders are expected to start shipping tomorrow, December 5th.

Crossover unable to attend Capcom Cup 2018 due to visa issues

2016’s Capcom Cup was rife with issues of players unable to attend the tournament due to visa issues; while last year was quite the departure from this — only NuckleDu withdrew from the tournament — the visa issue has reared its ugly head once again.

The Dominican Republic’s SonicBoxx|Crossover — the Latin America Regional Finals winner — has announced today that he was unable to secure a visa from the US Embassy in the Dominican Republic, and thus will be unable to attend. This currently leaves the Latin American slot up in the air: Pikoro would be pressed to secure a visa in a short amount of time, as Peruvians require a visa to enter the US, leaving Doomsnake507 of Panama as the highest-placing competitor in the bracket who does not a require a visa to travel to the United States.

Override: Mech City Brawl announces first DLC character, the unicorn mech “Stardust”

Gundam fans, have you ever wanted to play as Master Gundam’s horse, Fuun-saiki? Just the horse, mind you. If so, then “Stardust”, the first DLC character for Override: Mech City Brawl, is probably as close as you’re going to get:

This football kicking, star-shooting horse will launch on December 14 for $3.99, and is also included with the “Super Charged Mega Edition” of the game. Gematsu reports that the character has “a penchant for posing extravagantly and kicking up her hooves of steel,” and to “get ready to unleash all manner of aerial launches.” In short, I’d like to introduce a new FGC term for any future Stardust tech: Horse Juggles.

Override: Mech City Brawl is available now for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Dead or Alive 6 pre-orders at GameStop and EB Games Canada will get an exclusive steelbook edition

Special retailer exclusives for pre-ordering games is a common practice for many releases.  As such, it should be no surprise that  Dead or Alive 6 is being given the same treatment at select retailers.

Players who pre-order Dead or Alive 6 at GameStop and EB Games Canada will receive an exclusive steelbook edition of the game. This offer applies to both customers who pre-order online as well as those who do so in-store. Additionally, all the other pre-0rder bonuses, including Nyotengu and a exclusive costume for Kasumi, are still included. Take note that the steelbook offer applies only while supplies last.

Additionally, a recent tweet from Team NINJA also indicates that Best Buy and Amazon will also have retailer exclusive pre-order bonuses. However, those have yet to be listed on their online stores as of the time of writing. Dead or Alive 6 launches on February 15 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
