Fists and frills: learn the art of Lili with this combo breakdown for Tekken 7

Since her first appearance in Tekken 5, Lili Rochfort’s deceptive-yet-offensive fighting style has made her a popular pick. She’s relatively easy to pick up, is a lot of fun to play and can do a heap of damage when in the hands of a dedicated Tekken trainee.

For the aspiring Lili-mains, HurtboxTV has created a combo breakdown that deconstructs a few of her hard-hitting strings. Like the other combo breakdowns on this channel, the combos are performed and replayed in slow motion with inputs on screen for notation purposes.

Seeing as Lili is one of the most difficult Tekken characters to defend against, a breakdown of this nature can help those hoping to get the leg-up on Lili players as well. Check out the combo breakdown below, and if you have questions about Tekken’s input notation and frame data, perhaps you should look into the Tekken Chicken frame data app.

Eanix signs Injustice 2 player Matthew “Biohazard” Commandeur

The movement of traditional esports teams into the fighting game community continues, with several organizations setting their sights on the Injustice 2 scene. Toronto-based Matthew “Biohazard” Commandeur is the next player to be snapped up in the rush, being signed by Eanix. Commandeur mains Bane and is currently ranked #6 in the Injustice Pro Series and #4 on the Shoryuken world rankings for Injustice 2.

Eanix is a Florida based organization, with teams in Rocket League, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Vainglory and CS:GO. With the team already having a presence within the world of Smash, this player signing should signal their launch into the larger FGC.

Deal damage like a battery with this King of Fighters XIV 1-bar combo video

Most King of Fighters players play more conservatively with their first character, using them as a battery to build meter for their remaining two characters to do more heavy damage. It’s a legitimate strategy given how difficult it is to win a game off of one character. That doesn’t mean that you can’t give your point character one bar to work with.

In this combo video, we get to see just exactly how damaging a single bar of meter is in The King of Fighters XIV. Showing off the combo potential of every character outside of Xanadu, most of the cast is capable of taking 50% or more off of an opponent’s health, either by way of using Max Mode or doing a Super to end the combo. This opens up your point character in a way that you probably haven’t tried to before.

Catch more of Kichipa-mu’s amazing Zangief in this Street Fighter V highlight reel

While most of Japan Cup’s Top 8 featured names we had all heard and seen before, there was one name that left people in shock. Kichipa-mu, a Japanese Zangief player, managed to to grapple his way to a third place finish, besting out top players such as Xiaohai, Chris Tatarian and Gachikun on his way to the podium.

After seeing this highlight reel from his online play, you can tell that the young man has a lot of amazing reads and setups, and is truly showing what Zangief can do across the board. It’s also a testament to the wealth of talent that has yet to be discovered on the Capcom Pro Tour, and hopefully we’ll see more of him in the near future.

Ed is no longer be the newest Street Fighter V character but there’s still plenty left to explore with the heir of Shadaloo. A new YouTube channel called Young Commander is bringing together some impressive tech for Ed, from mixups and meaty setups to optimizations for V-Trigger.

Young Commander’s early videos are focused on creating strong mixups using V-Trigger and his unique V-Skill, Psycho Snatch. Because both versions of anti-air Psycho Snatch Ed can create guaranteed mixup situations while his V-Trigger is active or even after a full punish. Nearly two hours of direct feed Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite gameplay from TeaMandem and Loading Bar London

We’re now less than a month away from the official launch of Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite and we’re getting more and more footage of the game in action as it reaches the final build. The members of TeaMandem, a London-based gaming group, were able to capture nearly two hours of direct feed video during a demo play session at Loading Bar London last week.

Capcom UK has been giving British players plenty of hands-on opportunities with MvC:I and it shows in these videos. You’ll see a number of practical Infinity Stone setups, creative uses for the game’s new Tag system and some early bread and butter combos. The Reality Stone seems to be a popular pick at this stage in the game’s life as the surge projectile can be used to lock an opponent down for easy mixups.

Even with all of this new footage the final build of the game hasn’t been tested by the public, so what we are seeing now is subject to change. Still, the pace and creativity we’re seeing from these short sessions make MvC:I look more and more like a worthy addition to the franchise that fighting game players know and love. Check out the full playlist with 16 videos below.

Pokkén Tournament DX will have a downloadable demo on the Nintendo eShop ‘soon’

After the conclusion of the Pokkén World Championships, Nintendo dropped a frustratingly ambiguous announcement in regards to Pokkén’s Switch port, Pokkén Tournament DX.

It’s good news for Pokkén fans that don’t want to wait till its September 22nd release, but ‘soon’ could be anywhere from tomorrow to the week before launch. It’s a far cry from the massive ARMS beta Nintendo held — although it is fair to point out ARMS was a brand new IP that relied heavily of the Switch’s unique JoyCon controllers. As Nintendo has shared no other information on the release of this enhanced port of Pokkén, we’ll keep you updated when the demo’s launch date is revealed.

Ryu and Sagat clash in fan-made “Street Fighter: Rise” from AWP Films, to celebrate Street Fighter’s 30th Anniversary

A classic face-off re-imagined by devoted fans!

street fighter rise 2

To mark Street Fighter’s 30th Anniversary, AWP Films has re-created the classic face-off between Ryu and Sagat in which Sagat learns the power of the Shoryuken the hard way. Inspired by the opening of 1994’s Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, this fan-film mixes the real actors (Davis Noir as Ryu, and Barret Horiuchi as Sagat) with animated backgrounds and effects, and includes many of the fighters’ signature moves from throughout the franchise. From the director:

I was highly inspired by the opening fight from the animated film. And then it evolved to some ultra stylized and astronomical battle. It became more in spirit of the games: from hit sparks to superhuman abilities. This is Street Fighter: Alpha to VS to 5! – Francois D

New SNK fighters are on the way, according to Yasuyuki Oda and Hayato Watanabe

Fans of SNK fighters may have a lot to look forward in the next year, as the company are developing “many new fighters”, according to an interview from IGN Latin America. Speaking to the site during Evo 2017, King of Fighters XIV producer Yasuyuki Oda and combat designer Hayato Watanabe discussed upcoming SNK titles, the future of KOF XIV and its potential sequel.

As for updates to KOF XIV, Oda stated that the studio wasn’t quite sure about if the studio would continue developing content for the game. If they did any new content, it would be additional characters, but it takes a large investment of time and money to make these things a reality. A balance patch is “a possibility”, with both Watanabe and Oda being convinced that fans will see King of Fighters XV sometime in the future.

On the esports front, Oda wants to continue supporting the international KOF scene with tournaments like the KOF XIV World Championship, along with events for future SNK fighting games. Oda finished the interview by stating that there are “many new fighters” in the works at SNK, and that fans should stay tuned for more information.

With SNK rereleasing classic games like Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury and Last Blade on every device known to man, it’s clear that they are doing some sort of market research to determine which series should return. Tokyo Games Show is coming up in October, so we may see an announcement there.
