How to Start a Fight and Finish It Quickly: Javits Breaks Down How to Beat Laura in Street Fighter V

Arguably no-one in the returning cast benefited more from the changes in season 2 than Laura. The ju-jitsu grappler has become one of the strongest characters in the game, with heavy mixup potential that will leave you on the ground for a great deal of the match, should you not know how to defend against her.

With that, Javits Arias has created a breakdown of the general Laura matchup over the course of the last few days on Twitter. Given how it could be difficult to sift through his tweets to find all of that, Javits took the liberty of compiling it into an Evernote for everyone’s perusal.

The Community Shows Its Love for a Newlywed Player via Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Combo Videos

A well-known Japanese Venom player known as 310 (@310_progressive) just got married a few days ago, and in a supremely sweet gesture a congratulatory hashtag was created:

#310さんおめでとうコンボ

Under this hashtag, everyone posted combos that did exactly 310 damage, against Venom using 310’s benchmark color (white and red).

Venom has a staggering amount of options with how his pool ball projectiles interact, and 310 is known for pushing the character and creating fantastic tech and combos. It’s fitting that a pioneer of his character should receive so much love in the form of creative combos. To do this much damage—about 75% of Venom’s life—often requires utilizing full guard gauge or the Danger Time mechanic.

Here’s some favorites:

Leo, signing the guest book mid-combo:

Kum going ham with close Slash:

Slayer, with congratulatory clapping:

And of course, some Venom himself:

Beyond that, the trend has continued to other games, where 310 damage is a much different achievement:

Big congratulations to our Venom innovator, 310!

Happy Boxing Day! Celebrate by Watching This Mirror Match between Smug & PR Balrog

See PR Balrog and PIE|Smug duke it out over that Fight Money.

Alright, it might not be that kind of boxing day, but this online best-of-three between these Balrog-dedicated prize fighters is still worth a watch! It looks like they may have experienced some unfortunate lag in the first round, but they still dig in and fight it out. A good display of what Balrog is capable in this–or any–matchup.

You can see even more Balrog mirror-match action in this prior compilation of Smug going up against Brian_F.

Convenient Reference Sheet Lists Notable Arcade Players of BlazBlue: Central Fiction

Whether you can’t read a player’s tag, or just want a list of high-level players to look out for, this Arcade Player Reference Sheet is a bookmark worthy of any serious BlazBlue player.

In the same vein as the Guilty Gear version, this is a well-organized spreadsheet. Among it’s rank listings are personal side notes about players, alternate characters they play, which arcade they frequent, and—when applicable—links to their Twitter page.

While the rankings will fluctuate and this won’t be constantly updated, it gives you a good idea of where your favorite players lie amidst the competition.

Thanks to Spiel for compiling this, and continuing the trend of intuitive and useful references.

Rising Up: Season 2 Roundup — Important Changes for Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, & Nash

With Season 2’s release, most players payed close attention to the buffs and nerfs their main character received; but with 92 pages of notes, it’s quite time-consuming to go through every single character. So, I’ll be making some short videos demonstrating some of the important changes to each character, to allow players to more rapidly brush up on their new mains and opponents.

The first four characters I’ve covered are Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and Nash, simply for their storyline relevance. Coincidentally (or perhaps not so coincidentally?), they were four of the strongest characters in Season 1, and all four have many nerfs compared to later characters I’ll be covering. This is not a comprehensive list of all changes, simply the ones I deemed most significant to gameplay. I might have overseen the ramifications of certain minor changes, however, so if you feel I left out something important, feel free to leave feedback on the video for me and other viewers.

I’ll try and do one of these videos a day until I’ve covered the changes for all characters. Expect more upcoming Monday character tutorials too; keep an eye out on the ShoryukenTube YouTube channel for an Akuma bread and butter combo video as well, sometime very soon.
