Undefeated Announces Adoption of PlayStation 4 Version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 as Tournament Standard

In an announcement last night, Arizona tournament series Undefeated declared that their Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 events would be run on the PlayStation 4 version of the game, meaning that both their tournament singles and Curleh Mustache event will be run on the PS4.

According to Angelic–who has plenty of pedigree in UMvC3, with two top 3 Evo finishes under his belt–the PS4 port of the game is excellent, and it is stable for offline play. Angelic did warn that if problems do emerge before the tournament, Undefeated will revert back to the Xbox 360 version of UMvC3.

Undefeated–which takes place on February 4 and 5–marks the first major Marvel tournament to make the switch to the PS4 version of UMvC3, and will likely set the tournament standard going forward.

Garou: Mark of the Wolves is Now Suddenly Available on Steam

After the game was announced to be getting a remastered port for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, it was left up in the air whether or not we’d get a Steam release of Garou: Mark of the Wolves. It was likely, but with no official announcement we were left guessing. Luckily, that guessing period lasted mere days as a Steam version of the game has shown up today. Check out the direct link to the game here.

While it would seem at a glance that this release would be more-or-less identical to the PlayStation release, this is not the case. With no Gallery, no Ranked mode, and fewer of the art borders that appeared in the trailer for the PlayStation release, this port seems a bit lacking in comparison. There also are fans complaining of audio lag, input lag, and frame drops plaguing this version; these problems will hopefully be patched soon enough, but for now the PlayStation release seems to be the way to go.

Be Formally Introduced to the Raging Demon with This Street Fighter V Character Introduction for Akuma

With all the fan speculation and theories as to what Akuma can do in Street Fighter V, it’s time for Capcom to formally introduce us to the Raging Demon through one of their regular character introduction videos. Acting as a short run-down of Akuma’s new tricks with his V-Skill and V-Trigger, Capcom community manager Matt Edwards gives a small glimpse of some of the devious things Akuma players can pull off in Season Two of Street Fighter V.

He even shows how Akuma can combo off of his taunt, using the ground slam to set up into a Shoryuken which can then be cancelled into his Kongou Kokuretzu Zan Critical Art for big damage. There isn’t long to wait now, with Season Two’s release being just under 2 weeks away, so get ready to unleash this lion-haired beast on December 20th.

Hurricane Kicks and Turbulent Winds Clash in These Online Sets Between Tokido and Gachikun in Street Fighter V

It’s tornados versus Hadoukens in these first-to-five online sets, as Gachikun and Tokido battle it out in Street Fighter V. While Tokido needs no introduction, Gachikun is rated as Japan’s best Rashid, with John Takeuchi naming him as the nation’s master of the Turbulent Wind during an interview at Red Bull Battle Grounds back in November.

His skill with Rashid is something to admire, going incredibly close with Tokido during these two best of five sets, applying careful pressure with tornados and expertly dodging through Ryu’s fireball game with Rashid’s V-Skill roll. For anyone looking to play Rashid, these sets are required viewing.

The Game Theorists Break Down How Super Smash Bros. Almost Never Came to Be

The Super Smash Bros. series–in particular games like Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U–have permeated the fighting game scene and become one of the biggest draws on the circuit. But did you know that these titles had a heavy shot of not even making it out of initial production?

The Game Theorists take on the history of the production of the series with this video. In it, they explain how Smash Bros. producer Masahiro Sakurai initially had non-licensed characters in the alpha phases, and how the initial switch to switch to Nintendo characters could’ve cost him the chance to have the game published. They also talk about the development cycle of Super Smash Bros. Melee, which is considered a rush job in terms of game development.

Capcom Cup Viewership Ratings on ESPN2 Only 87,000, DotEsports Analyzes Competitors

Capcom Cup was about as high-profile as you can get for fighting games. Between the massive prize pot, a year’s worth of accumulated hype, and an airing on ESPN2, there aren’t many tournaments who can boast the same accomplishments. That said: this success doesn’t necessarily correlate directly to viewership.

As DotEsports points out in their writeup, Capcom Cup listed as garnering a total of 87,000 viewers that night on ESPN2. This is lower than EVO 2016, which scored over 200,000 viewers, but we have some things to keep in mind when looking at this data. They point out that Capcom Cup was competing that night with heavy hitters such as AMC’s The Walking Dead (10 Million viewers) and NFL’s Seattle Seahawks vs. Carolina Panthers (18 Million viewers). This is a stark contrast to Evo 2016’s biggest TV competitior, which was ABC’s Match Game (5.8 Million viewers).

They also go over key demographics for Capcom Cup, which the tournament did manage to reach in a satisfying manner. We’re left with the impression that ESPN was happy with these ratings, from their own statements: “[The Capcom Cup] met our strategic objectives to experiment with new formats and programming and engage new fans,” adding that they “will continue to look to deliver championship events that meet those objectives.”
