The 7th TOPANGA Charity Cup, featuring Street Fighter V 5-on-5 team matches, starts November 25th in Tokyo

Some intense Street Fighter V team battles are about to start in Japan!

TOPANGA is holding their 7th Charity Cup, where a massive array of Street Fighter V competitors — including Daigo Umehara, Itabashi Zangief, Moke, Nemo, Tokido, MOV, Xiao Hai, and many many more — will clash in 5-on-5 team matches! They’ll be fighting to raise funds for the Japanese Red Cross Society. The event begins in Tokyo on November 25, 10:00 AM (5:00 PM PT today).

You can see the event details on TOPANGA’s Charity Cup 7 Japanese webpage — you’ll need Japanese reading proficiency or Google Translate skills, of course — but you can see the team listings, and even search the teams by SFV mains. The completed brackets will be posted to Challonge when ready. You can watch the action live once it begins on OpenRec.tv. You can also keep an eye on TOPANGA’s Twitter for updates, and view the pools here.

The rumors still burn: Possible SoulCalibur VI tidbits from the 8WayRun forums

Is a new SoulCalibur game actually about to be revealed?

SoulCalibur fans are waiting with bated breath to find out if the recent rumors circulating about the yet-unconfirmed SoulCalibur IV are leading to an actual game, or not. DasVergeben from reddit, at least one of the sources of the latest rumors — or “leaks,” if you’re a believer — is currently contributing to the discussion on this subject on 8WayRun’s forums, posting as simply Vergeben:

Believe what you want, but Soul Calibur VI is real and you will see that it is soon enough.
I even have information about it that I have been advised to, under no circumstance leak. It would dwindle down who is releasing the information to a select few if I did.

What I can say that I am allowed to that I haven’t yet is that there will be a huge focus on story elements, and the game was still in the motion capture stage even back in May of this year. The game’s very far behind schedule ever since the delay last year due to their moveset / style switching mechanic not working out like they wanted to.
But like I said recently, they did retain this idea in a certain capacity, however. You will understand what I mean by this eventually.

I wish I could say more. But for now, everything I have said about it is what I am allowed to.
I keep being told it is being revealed “very soon” and in December. So regardless of if they do it at TGA or PSX, it’s happening next month.
I was told it more than likely will not be on display and playable for a little while longer yet though.

Vergeben claims to have knowledge of seven confirmed playable characters: Kilik, two other returning fighters, and four new fighters. Discussion of possible guest characters now includes Fire Emblem characters in addition to The Legend of Zelda‘s Link — but surely that would be Switch-exclusive if true, meaning a repeat of platform-exclusive guests like some previous titles. This new title is expected for PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch, while Xbox One isn’t completely ruled out, apparently.

We’ll have to wait and see what Bandai Namco actually has cooking at The Game Awards and/or the PlayStation Experience; many hopefuls will be bitterly disappointed if SoulCalibur VI proves to be merely a legend. Seeing as it’s the 20th Anniversary, the time to make an announcement — if any — on the series’ next return to the stage of history is now!

NEC 18’s registration period has been extended

As the year comes to the close, one of the biggest tournaments — outside of the Capcom Cup — is the Northeast Championship. Aside from being the last major tournament of the year for most games, NEC has also been host to the Dead or Alive 5: Last Round Battle Royal Finals for the past couple of years.

Now, for those thinking of going to NEC 18, here’s some great news: BigE Gaming has extended the registration period for the event due to interest. Registration for the event is now extended up until December 4, 2017.

In addition to this, BigE has also increased the player cap for the Dead or Alive 5: Last Round tournament to 128 players. This is due to increased interest in the event. This means that even more players will be competing for the $6,000 pot bonus from Team NINJA.

Interested players can head on over to NEC 18’s smash.gg page to register. NEC 18 will take place on December 15 to 17 at the Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia, PA.

Unequalled Media’s Tyrant and Maximilian break down Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s upcoming balance patch

Next month is shaping up to be huge for fans and players of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. The game’s final three DLC characters (as part of the 2017 Character Pass), Marvel’s trio of Black Widow, Winter Soldier and Venom will be available in two weeks on Tuesday, December 5th, along with their Premium costumes.

But arguably more important is the title receiving its first proper large-scale balance update: affectionately dubbed the “Dante Must Die” patch, due to the staggering number of changes to the Son of Sparda, as well as the Reality Stone’s Infinity Surge. The update is also providing a large number of bug fixes, imposing quite a few combo limitations on certain OTG and Capture State moves, as well as providing balance changes to a large number of frequently — and not-so-frequently — used characters.

While a massive wall of text chronicling the changes can be a lot to take in — particularly since it lacks developer notes from Capcom specifically explaining what some of the changes mean, or why they’re being applied — Unequalled Media’s Tyrant and Maximilian have taken it upon themselves to provide players with detailed breakdown videos covering the most significant changes coming to the game. Though both videos are a bit long, they’re certainly great resources for those curious on how their favorite heroes and villains may be impacted by these upcoming adjustments in a few short weeks. (Be advised though: there is a fair amount of NSFW language in both videos, so exercise caution if you’re at work or have family around!)

Lastly, for those worried about how this update could impact the upcoming Battle for the Stones Finals at Capcom Cup, you can rest easy. Capcom has officially stated that, in order to maintain the integrity of the tournament, the event will be using the current version of the game, with Black Widow, Winter Soldier and Venom, being unavailable for use in the competition.

What are your overall thoughts on these upcoming patch notes? Do you agree or disagree with Max or Tyrant’s opinions, after giving these videos a watch? Sound off in the comments section below.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. A free Versus demo will also be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers — featuring all 30 members of the base roster — running from Friday, November 24th to Monday, November 27th.

A work-in-progress Super Smash Bros. for Wii U mod brings back wavedashing and Melee-esque air dodges

Prayers for a Melee HD may soon be answered, thanks to an upcoming Smash 4 mod. Creatively titled “Melee HD,” modders are currently in the process of implementing a Melee-esque air dodge into Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. By making Smash 4’s air-dodge similar to Melee’s, this also adds wavedashing into the game — something that fans have been clamoring for since the launch of SSB4.

The mod is very much a work-in-progress, with the team still having to tweak some elements to make air-dodges identical to Melee’s. Even so, it is a fantastic proof-of-concept and will no doubt see some fans dusting off their Wii Us and trying this mod out. So far, the Melee HD team have been able to remove ledge trumping, re-add ledge invincibility, as well as jump-canceled grabs and Shine. Once they manage to remove Rage, I’ll instantly be downloading the mod.

If you want to keep abreast of Melee HD’s development, you can check out its official Discord for the latest updates.

Treat someone to a $6770 golden Blanka ring this Christmas, as part of U-Treasure’s Street Fighter collection

Looking to splash out on some Street Fighter merchandise this holiday season? Well, Japanese jewelry store U-Treasure has recently come out with their own line of Street Fighter-themed jewelry and skateboards. Don’t go reaching your Fight Money just yet though, as you’ll need to have won Capcom Cup just to afford some of the products on offer.

The skateboards are Street Fighter V themed, with one showing Akuma, the other Rashid and F.A.N.G, and the last one depicting Ryu and Chun-Li. The most expensive pieces in this line are 18-carat gold necklaces, earrings and rings, inspired by characters from Street Fighter: there are gold versions of Guile’s dog tags, Chun-Li’s spiked bracelets, Ryu’s gloves, Dhalsim’s skull necklace and Zangief’s belt. An 18-carat gold ring in the shape of Blanka’s head takes the cake though — costing 756,000 yen (around $6770).

SFV Gold Ring
Chun-Li necklace
Dhalsim necklace
Guile dog tags
Ryu gloves necklace
Chun-Li earrings
SFV skateboard 1
SFV skateboard 2
SFV skateboard 3

For Street Fighters on a budget, you can plump for the silver version of each item, with each one costing about a tenth of the gold version. Personally, I’ll stick to spending my hard-earned cash on the next 50 Chun-Li costumes.
