A married couple’s first fight? Tekken 6 at the Japanese Mikado arcade

Responsibilities, adulthood, marriage… all those typically get in the way of fighting games. But what if the one you marry is your sparring partner? Whether this is the first “fight” of their marriage or a way to commemorate a special time over a video game, this Japanese couple held their ceremony at an atypical place.

Kazuhiro and his wife Yukiko got married at Mikado, the famous Japanese arcade. Surrounded by arcade cabinets of various titles, a red carpet graced the rented out venue. As for the guest seats, they used the chairs typically used for sittings at the cabinets.

Post the ceremony, the couple dove into some Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion sets. Why that game and not Tekken 7? It’s unclear, but maybe that’s the game the couple bonded over in the first place.

It’s endearing to see how much fighting games can mean and bond two people together. Let’s hope any future fights stay within the realm of Tekken!

How to install your own character colors for the PC version of BlazBlue: Central Fiction

Color customization is a highly-coveted feature in fighting games, as we know that choosing colors is dear to many players. While BlazBlue: Central Fiction lacks a built-in mode like that, the PC crowd isn’t stopped by such limitations. It’s possible to install your very own color palettes as costumers for BlazBlue characters, so making references to other anime is easier than ever.

Koefficient shows in this video tutorial how to do just that. Once you have a color palette file, there’s a certain file path to follow in the game’s Steam directory. Under “data,” access the “char” folder to be able to swap out palettes. The streamer shows all the steps on how to do that below.

Wondering how to get a custom color palette in the first place? Koefficient points to two people who might just do that for you. SegGel2009 and MooseJuice on Twitter take requests. Make sure to not overwhelm them, though! Some of the colors Koefficient shows off is a Chie color for Bullet, and an Enkidu color for Azrael.

Koefficient also made a video that features a stage mod; one of the special stages from the modders is from Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.

ARMS has its own manga published in Japanese magazine CoroCoro Comics

It seems that a Nintendo ARMS manga is being published in Japanese magazine CoroCoro Comics. Corocoro is notorious for creating gag comics aimed at children, and they have already collaborated with Nintendo on a humorous comic for their colorful party shooter Splatoon.

Nintendo is known for its lucrative merchandising, and it’s interesting to observe the ways they are promoting their latest IP. There’s no certainty of how a series of this nature will run or even if it will continue to be serialized, but if you’re interested, A preview of the ARMS manga can be seen here. Also, check out the reveal trailer for ARMS’ newest fighter, Lola Pop.

The fighting game-inspired 20/20 Armor system aims to improve sport Taekwondo

Is this the future for competitive martial arts?

Concerned about changes that resulted from the introduction of electronic monitoring/scoring systems to sport Taekwondo, the founders of 20/20 Armor looked to fighting games as inspiration as to how to better refine a scoring system for martial arts. The result is an electronic chest guard that syncs between competitors and tracks both time and “damage” via a meter that is effectively a life bar.

From Ali Gafour, founder and CEO of 20/20 Armor:

We are big Street Fighter fans, and also have been on National Teams for Taekwondo for Canada and USA. Our ultimate vision is to make Taekwondo a new professional sport just like hockey and basketball, because we believe if you have an easy-to-understand scoring system and a big fanbase (martial artists and gamers) that this can be a great pro sport that lots of people will watch! Who knows, maybe the future of e-sports will be an SF tournament along side a real life tournament?

Here’s the chest guard being used in a training session with some Taekwondo athletes. They seem to be enjoying the system.

Are we coming full circle, and the reality of martial arts is evolving based on the games it originally inspired…?

“I want to die playing fighting games”: Tokido talks to ESPN about his passion for fighting games & going pro

Echo Fox’s Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi is world renowned for his prowess in fighting games. Having won his very first championship at Evo 2002, he is still going strong in 2017, having won the Street Fighter V Evo championship this year as well.

However, what most people don’t know is that Tokido’s road down the path of champion — and professional esports altogether — started with approval from his father. In an interview with ESPN, Tokido and the elder Hisashi Taniguchi talked about his father agreeing to let him travel to Evo 2002 at 17 years old, if he would come back to cram for his college entrance exams. Fast-forward to 2009, and he again approached his father asking his opinion on the idea on becoming a professional gamer. Again, his father encouraged him to go for it.

Also, Tokido discusses how he doesn’t view himself as the best player, even offering an interesting hypothetical where if superior aliens came from a planet with fighting games, he would choose Daigo, and not himself, to fight for the fate of Earth’s FGC!

Capcom has released “Tamaya” — a web-based bomb mini-game starring Ibuki

Looking for a diversion from your 9-to-5 job until you get home and body online scrubs in Street Fighter V — and after 27 years, Minesweeper is no longer cutting it? Capcom was thinking about you when they developed their most recent release — and all you need is a web browser.

Named Tamaya, the game involves you picking up firework bombs and bringing them back to your base. You can also pick up black bombs and carry them to your opponents’ bases to wipe out their cache of bombs. The person with the highest amount of bombs at the end of the game wins.

This game supports four players and matches you up at random, and is quite addicting. Say goodbye to your productivity when you start to play.

A few words from @streetfighterlegacy:

@streetfighterlegacy is an online fan blog that originated on Instagram back in January 2015, and has since moved to other platforms like Twitter and Facebook too. We are the largest Street Fighter account on Instagram with currently 48.6K followers, and growing every day. Our main focus is a daily dose of Street Fighter goodness through art, gameplay, FGC, news, products and of course the odd giveaway working closely with companies like NSURGO, Bigboystoys_HK, Multiverse Studios, Numbskull Designs, Mustertbrand to name just a few.

As the 30th Anniversary was rapidly approaching, I felt we needed to celebrate in style. As my inbox fills up with artwork from our users daily for reposting, I decided to set a challenge to our followers to create an online art tribute. This tribute will only available online and will be FREE for everyone to view. For the moment, we will not be producing any physical copies.

Our ethos for this was all-inclusiveness. So, every person that submitted a piece that adhered to the rules was included. (Rules being that it had to be “family friendly,” that it was not a redraw or reproduction of existing art and created specifically for this project, and not available online before.) I didn’t want this to be elitist. Everyone was welcome, no matter of style or skill level. This has brought in a wide rage of art.

Our cover was designed by one of our community members Tei Lee (@zonknuckle). She is a young and upcoming artist based out of Hawaii. We approached her early on to create a cover and she did an amazing job, that set an amazing tone for the rest of the book.

I had reached out to Christian Howard to be part of it in the early stages, asking him to potentially submit something, even if it was just a stick man. To my surprise, he is quite the artist and explained he had studied art (is there nothing he can’t do?). He submitted 4 pieces for the book, and this lead me to asking if he would write a forward and introduction.

As stated on the first page, this was really a community effort, by the fans for the fans and as the 25th celebration motto was “I AM STREET FIGHTER,” I have revised and remixed this for the 30th Anniversary: “WE ARE STREET FIGHTER.” Not to get overly political, but in the current world climate, having something that unifies us (even if it’s just the love of Street Fighter) is a beautiful thing. If anything over my last 2-year journey with this blog has taught me, that there are some truly amazing Street Fighter fans across this globe, all with their own story to tell, and I hope in part this book celebrates that.

Go check out the full digital artbook on issuu.com!
