Terence Crawford (32-0, 23 KOs) won all four major world titles at light welterweight when he defeated previously unbeaten Julius Indongo (22-1, 11 KOs) by third round knockout on Saturday night at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA.
Crawford, 29, added the WBA and IBF belts to his WBC and WBO titles.
The two defending champions traded solid punches in an exciting opening round before Crawford landed a left hand, followed by a hard right that dropped the Namibian in the…
New SNK fighters are on the way, according to Yasuyuki Oda and Hayato Watanabe
Fans of SNK fighters may have a lot to look forward in the next year, as the company are developing “many new fighters”, according to an interview from IGN Latin America. Speaking to the site during Evo 2017, King of Fighters XIV producer Yasuyuki Oda and combat designer Hayato Watanabe discussed upcoming SNK titles, the future of KOF XIV and its potential sequel.
As for updates to KOF XIV, Oda stated that the studio wasn’t quite sure about if the studio would continue developing content for the game. If they did any new content, it would be additional characters, but it takes a large investment of time and money to make these things a reality. A balance patch is “a possibility”, with both Watanabe and Oda being convinced that fans will see King of Fighters XV sometime in the future.
On the esports front, Oda wants to continue supporting the international KOF scene with tournaments like the KOF XIV World Championship, along with events for future SNK fighting games. Oda finished the interview by stating that there are “many new fighters” in the works at SNK, and that fans should stay tuned for more information.
With SNK rereleasing classic games like Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury and Last Blade on every device known to man, it’s clear that they are doing some sort of market research to determine which series should return. Tokyo Games Show is coming up in October, so we may see an announcement there.
Earth Romancer shows off its anime/platform fighter inspirations in new gameplay trailer
Teased earlier this year, Lunar Hare Studios are back with a brand new trailer for their new platform fighter, Earth Romancer. Taking clear inspiration from both anime fighters like BlazBlue and Melty Blood, along with games like Super Smash Bros. Melee, Earth Romancer promises to be “the next evolution in platform fighters”.
Just from the trailer, you can clearly see how Earth Romancer is mixing mechanics from both genres to create something new. On top of wavelands, wavedashes and reverse aerial rushes, you’ve got air dashes and air parries to deal with both aerial and grounded pressure. The combat system uses standard fighting game conventions like high/low attacks, guard crushes and chain combos, and then combines it with the smooth movement and aerial-centric combo system you see in your standard platform fighter. Layer in a universal stance-switch — where all characters can switch between two different combat styles — and Earth Romancer looks to be a tech-skill and lab monster’s dream.
We also got a glimpse of new character Keagan, a wolf martial artist who must have studied at both the Masters and McCloud schools of karate. He’s got moves like Fox’s neutral air and Falco’s down air, as well as Jin Saotome-esque attacks where he summons a giant hand to punch or shoot fireballs, along with the ability to fire flaming projectiles from his feet.
With anime and platform fighters being cut from the same cloth when it comes to movement, fluid combos and super-unique character designs, it’s amazing that no-one has blended the two genres before. The indie game Wishmere experimented with a Roman cancel-esque mechanic, but Earth Romancer is going lock, stock and barrel in melding anime and platform fighter mechanics together to create something brand new. Personally, Earth Romancer‘s trailer is what Icons‘ should have been — by unveiling all the cool new elements it is bringing to the table, rather than retreading old ground with characters which looked too familiar to platform fighter veterans. The market is starting to get fierce, and Earth Romancer looks like it has all the tools to go toe-to-toe with its competitors.
Planned for release on both console and PC, Lunar Hare Studios are gearing up for a Earth Romancer Kickstarter in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled for more information.

New Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite footage from Maximilian provides first look at New Metro City and Dark Kingdom stages
Frequent FGC content uploader Maximilian has released a new video of Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite, showcasing off the recently announced New Metro City and Dark Kingdom stages. We also get some new footage of Haggar and Nemesis battling Thor and Strider, clad in some of their alternate colors that will be returning from Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, as well as Thor and Morrigan facing Doctor Strange and Strider in the “Dark Kingdom”.
Perhaps most importantly though, Max noted that he has seen the effects of the Soul Infinity Stone, noting that he won’t have any footage of it in action until next week, as it’s likely being revealed at Gamescom next Tuesday. According to Max, it is “exactly what you think it is and way more,” and that it’s “one of the things [he’s] more excited about” in MvC:I at present.
A few months back, Ryce — who leaked the majority of the game’s base roster — noted that the Stone’s Infinity Surge allows the user to steal some life from the opposing team, while the Infinity Storm allows the user to revive a dead character. With Max seemingly indicating that there is more to the sixth and final Stone, perhaps we’ll be seeing the return of the “Variable Cross” or “Duo Team Attack” feature from 1998’s Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes.
Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released on September 19th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam in North America and Europe, with a Japan release following on September 21st.

Tension Pulse: HimeCut tackles Kuutochi, and fadooglee battles Havoc_Noah in Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 exhibitions
Quality online Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 matches resume this weekend. Tension Pulse showcases American talent and gives a great opportunity to view some high-quality play alongside qualified commentators. Tune in for a fresh set of matches this Sunday!
We have a bunch of new combatants this time. We’re going to see fadooglee’s Slayer dance to Havoc_Noah’s guitar strings and I-no mix-ups, as well as HimeCut’s Leo Whitefang battle past dolphins and beachballs raining from Kuutochi’s May. Let’s see what they have to say about each other and their playstyles.
fadooglee

On the match: “To be honest, this is my first exhibition so I’m pretty excited! At the same time though, I’m a bit nervous because I usually don’t participate a lot in exhibitions or even tournaments. Either way, I expect it to be really fun because I just enjoy the game.”
On his opponent: “I think Noah is a really strong player. We haven’t played against each other much, but for the few times we have, I did acknowledge that he has very solid play. He knocked me out of winners during Anime Ascension, and then I returned the favor at Evo, haha. Regardless, I do feel confident in this exhibition.”
On his own playstyle: “My personal playstyle is quite aggressive. I usually try to do whatever it takes to “glue” myself to the opponent. I also find it gimmicky as well because I abuse backdash cancel.”
Havoc_Noah

On the match: “My thoughts are that I am happy to play on it. It is a cool series that has shown a lot of match ups so I hope to make this one entertaining with fadooglee. I also had commentated before but didn’t have a stable way to play on Steam until recently, so it will be fun.”
On his opponent: “I have played fadooglee in two tournament sets right and our current record is 1/1. I beat him at AA closely, and he beat me at Evo very convincingly, so I hope that our third set can be good. He plays Slayer in a very active way, so my goal with him is to just play more reactively to him when I can and try to let him overextend himself. His offense is also good, and he is willing to take risks both in neutral and offense that I have to be aware because of I-no’s low stun.”
On his own playstyle: “It is kind of hard for me to describe my playstyle actually. I am a very emotional player so when I play well it shows, and I can ride that momentum to just keep ahead. This also works against me, though, at times where I am not in a good headspace, things can get to me easily, and it becomes hard to stay level-headed. My offense really shines when it is in a good space where I am able to just consistently show how strong my character can be on offense.”
HimeCut

On the match: “Participating in Tension Pulse has given me some much-welcomed motivation to train harder. There were a lot of things I’ve been wanting to put into practice that I haven’t invested time labbing before. No matter the results, I’ve picked up momentum forward, and I’ll become a stronger player because of it.”
On his opponent: “Kuutochi is strong and looks like he has a lot of fun when he plays, a quality I really appreciate in players. But I don’t like May: she’s very tricky with enormous payout and frustrating neutral, but I’m confident that I can adjust in a long set.”
On his own playstyle: “I make hard reads, but they don’t always work. I really like characters that attack the player’s patience. The description that comes to mind is: ‘Getting mixed up by characters like Raven and Chipp makes you feel helpless, but getting hit by Leo makes you feel stupid.’ Leo is linear by nature making formulating an approach with his limited tools super fun.”
Kuutochi

On the match: “I’m excited to be part of this exhibition. Been following Tension Pulse, and this is just such a great way to spotlight American players matches. Japanese footage is fantastic, but I just love how different players over here deal with different situations and playstyles that never show up at the arcades.”
On his opponent: “I don’t know much of HimeCut besides a vague memory from CEO, can’t remember how our matches went back then, so I’m both nervous and excited to fight him. Leo is a character that if you make one mistake, he’ll take all your life and then runs a train on you. I’m still uncertain of my match-up against Leo, especially when all of them feel to have their own different approach, so I’m looking forward to seeing how HimeCut plays him!”
On his own playstyle: “Suicidal (LOL). I’m a really aggressive player, like REALLY aggressive. I just want to get in there and torment my opponent. May is a well-rounded character with a couple weaknesses, she can be everywhere on the screen, but I just want to be right in their face. My training partner often says I do things by instinct instead of thinking which is bad when it comes to neutral, so instead I like to force scrambles by simply interrupting/trading moves and try to come victorious from there.”

Catch the next episode of Tension Pulse live on Silva_hime’s Twitch channel. The first set, which is between HimeCut and Kuutochi, will start on August 20th at 8:30 PM ET/9:30 PM CT/5:30 PM PT. Kami and wne will commentate the matches and lend their expertise to the on-screen gameplay.

Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition adds Evil Ryu, Gouken, and Guy as free DLC
Just over a month after its release on iOS, Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition receives its first character DLC. Guy, Gouken, and Evil Ryu will become free downloads sometime this week, filling up three of the six empty character slots teased in the game’s original launch trailer.
Anyone can take a close look at the other three empty slots and see that the remaining mystery fighters are likely Juri, Rose, and Elena. It’s safe to presume that these three will feature in the next round of DLC, but for now the details of their future in the mobile game remains a mystery.
This free character DLC puts Street Fighter IV: Champion Edition off to a good start, and gives hope that the game will stay both convenient and affordable. Those interested in buying can still pick it up for $4.99 in the app store.
