Tekken Revolution Support to Cease in March 2017

Bad news for players of Tekken Revolution was recently announced. The free-to-play fighting game on the PlayStation 3 will cease operations effective March 21, 2017. Given that the game had been pulled from the European PlayStation Store, the writing was on the wall for this title.

The removal of this game from Bandai Namco support around this time could give some lingering hope for the release date of Tekken 7: Fated Retribution. The newest in the Tekken lineup is still slated for a Q1 or Q2 2017 release, and the cessation of Tekken Revolution falls right between the two windows. While this is merely speculation, it’s quite possible that we could see the release of Tekken 7 fall within two weeks either way of the demise of Tekken Revolution.

Shine 2017 is Coming Back to New England on August 27th-28th

In the briefest of announcements yesterday, Big Blue Esports has announced that Shine will be coming back for 2017, running between August 27th-28th. By the looks of it, it will be returning to Boston, Massachusetts but we have no news on if it will be back at the Seaport World Trade Center or at a different location in the city.

Titled #TheLastDopeTournament, an obvious reference to New England Peach main Mafia, Shine 2017 has quite the reputation to live up to. The previous Shine was not only the largest fighting game event in the whole of New England, but it was lauded by attendees for being one of the most well run and relaxed tournaments that they had ever gone to. With over 2000 entrants across Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. 64, Shine 2017 may be even bigger and act as a suitable closer for next year’s Summer of Smash.

Watch the blink and you’ll miss it teaser below and expect more news on Shine 2017 in the new year.

Enjoy Your Fighting Games with Input Lag? Skullgirls 2nd Encore Adds Option to Raise Lag to 6-7 Frames

Input lag has been a huge talking point in the FGC over the past year. With Street Fighter V–the most featured fighting game of 2016–having a higher-than-normal delay on inputs, a lot of people were concerned about the impact such a delay would have on the overall game. There have been notable effects on both balance and player reaction, leading to Capcom eventually reducing the input lag by a degree, after which there was discussion about the implication on balance reducing the lag had. Most players expected the lag to be altered again with the Season 2 update, but with no additional changes to input lag in sight the topic has been open to discussion all over again.

In a move reminiscent of their April Fools character announcement, the latest patch for the PC version of Skullgirls promotes a wholly unique feature for a fighting game. It was announced that players can now manually choose to increase their amount of input lag by 3 frames, bringing the delay from 3-4 frames up to 6-7 frames.

The point of this patch seems like a joke at a glance, but there’s a bigger talking point here: is raising the input delay such a silly thing to do that it has to be a joke to suggest, and if so what does that mean for games that ignore a delay? What kind of impact does such a delay have on footsies, hit-confirms, zoning, pressure, and resets? Would anyone intentionally raise the delay on their game, and why? Does player input matter, or is this a decision that should be left up to developers? This option adds some important discussion material, being the best chance for players everywhere to personally feel the difference a few extra frames of lag can make.

Win Super Street Fighter II Turbo at Combo Breaker 2017 and Win an Arcade Cabinet

While the games that will be a part of Combo Breaker are something to behold, the Super Street Fighter II Turbo event is definitely one to pay attention. The soon-to-be 23 year-old title always draws a crowd wherever it goes on the circuit, and Combo Breaker not only plans to bring out the old school players, but to bring them out in droves.

This year, the event will be played on custom arcade cabinets with fully restored monitors, courtesy of Paradise Arcade Shop and 2 Old 2 Furious. These cabinets will feature all the old features of a cabinet you have come to expect, but also new additions such as Undamned USB adapters so you can use whatever stick or pad you are comfortable playing on.

But the icing on the cake is the fact that the winner of the tournament will walk out of Chicago with not just a trophy or cash prizes, but also one of the cabinets that the event was played on. While the winner will shoulder the responsibility of paying for shipment of the cabinet, it will include everything needed to have your own arcade setup at home, including a Super Street Fighter II Turbo board!

Think you have what it takes to lug home a relic of the old school back home? You better make it to Combo Breaker from May 26-28, 2017!

Check Out This Alternate Win Pose Compilation for The King of Fighters XIV

Knocking out two of your opponent’s characters with only one of your teammates is tough in The King of Fighters XIV. SNK has their own fun little way of acknowledging this: beat two opponents in a row, get a new win pose! Well, sort of. Some are as simple as new voice lines accompanying the old win poses. Still, it’s a nice touch of personality!

Check out the video below to see all the alternate win poses found so far.

Sadly, not every character has a alternate win pose. Perhaps a future update will bring in a few more easter eggs like this?
