One of the main criticisms about this year’s Capcom Pro Tour has been how confusing it has been, in terms of qualifying forthe Capcom Cup. Well, it seems that Capcom has been listening to the complaints, and we may get a much more simplified tour next year.

In a recent interview with PVP Live, Capcom’s Neidel “Haunts” Crisan talked about one major change that they are considering for next years Pro Tour–removing any auto-qualifying spots. According to haunts, if they implement this change, everyone will have to qualify through points alone. The only exceptions would be Regional Finals, the winners of which would still qualify for Capcom Cup. As part of this, Haunts stated that the potential format that they’re looking into would still allow for global and regional leaderboards.

Other changes that Capcom is looking into is reducing the number of events on the Pro Tour calendar and increasing the number of points acquired from online tournaments. On the former, Haunts stated that there were far too many events this year. As for the latter, they want to give more players the chance to compete.

The party that is Mikado Arcade’s “Super Street Fighter Carnival 2016” hasn’t lost any momentum. This two-month tournament series is home to high-level play in a dizzying amount of classic (and obscure!) arcade games. If you like that concept but not the games outlined below, don’t worry! There’s a lot of tournaments to choose from. 

Believe it or not, we’re near the end of this great series. Though there’s less then a month left of SSFC2016 games to be played, the matches aren’t any less exciting. For example:

The King of Fighters ’98: Ultimate Match is the re-balanced sequel to KOF ’98. What makes the Mikado series so interesting here, though, is that these are the same players we saw playing KOF ’98 last week! You really do get to see how teams and strategies evolved between the two games.

But hey. Maybe you’re wanting to see a stranger game get played at Mikado. Well…

Let’s talk about The Rumble Fish 2.

This 2D fighter is made by a little company called Dimps. That’s right, before they were employed by Capcom to make Street Fighter IV, Dimps was cutting their teeth on this odd gem. Rumble Fish 2 has a bevy of system mechanics and gauges, making it closer spiritually to air dashers then SFIV was. Air blocking, chain combos, wake-up rolls, air dodges… and this doesn’t even cover all the stuff you can do with meter! Rumble Fish 2 has been a game I’ve always enjoyed watching, and it’s really interesting to see where Dimps came from before they hit the big time.

It’s that time of the year once again, when people are preparing to rush to stores, turkey hangover be damned, to get some of the best deals of the year. Yes, Black Friday is almost here.

For those looking to purchase Street Fighter V (possibly in anticipation of Akuma), a couple of stores are offering massive discounts on the game. First up, Best Buy has a big pre-Black Friday sale starting on November 24. As part of this, Street Fighter V is on sale for only $20, 66% off the original $60 retail price.

However, if that’s still too much, Target is also having a pre-Black Friday say that starts on November 23 and as part of this, they’re selling Street Fighter V for only $15.

Now while Street Fighter V admittedly did not have much content at launch, the game has been expanded since then with additional modes and content. In addition to this, Capcom looks to be continuing support for the game, with Akuma likely just being the tip of the spear for next year’s season.

After being announced last September at Tokyo Game Show, as part of Capcom’s partnership with Red Bull BC One, and even being datamined in Street Fighter V’s recent 1.11 update, Capcom has taken their promotion of the Nagoya B-Boy competition one step further: by providing B-Boy Ryu and B-Girl Chun-Li with their own CFN Portal site profiles, courtesy of the Shadaloo Activity Report!

The final chance at a spot in Capcom Cup is coming up fast, as BEast of the East have opened sign-ups for the last chance qualifier for the Asia Regional Finals of the Capcom Pro Tour. This last chance qualifier will be held at Fighter’s Spirit 2016 in Anyang, South Korea on November 17th, with two players gaining a trip to the Asia Regional Finals on November 19th.

There is a 256-player cap for this qualifier, so get signing up now over on the BEast of the East’s website to attend the ultimate last chance qualifier for 2016. The Asia Regional Finals will take place at the G-Star Expo in Busan, South Korea, where players like HORI|Sako, EG|Ricki Ortiz, HM|Eita, DNG|Itazan, HuomaoTV|Humanbomb and others will be competing for that final spot at Capcom Cup 2016. The bracket is available right now over on the official CPT Challonge page, so you can start making predictions on the winner.

Bolstered by the recent successes of online qualifiers for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, smash.gg is partnering with Battle on the Strip to bring Street Fighter V into the fold, by offering both a Smash and Street Fighter online qualifier for the latest edition of this monthly Las Vegas tournament series. These free online qualifiers will invite the top four players for each game to the SLS Resort in Las Vegas, to compete against four of Las Vegas’ best for a split $10,000 prize pool between both games.

Both qualifiers will run Saturday 12th November, starting at noon PST until the top four players for each game have been decided. All qualifying players will then be flown out to Las Vegas to compete at the BOTS finals on Sunday 20th November. The finals will be streamed over on the BattleVegas Twitch channel if you wish to tune in and all the information about event registration and attendance is available on either the BOTS website or the smash.gg page. Like most online qualifiers of this type, entrants are unfortunately limited to North America at this time.

Hopefully, this expansion into Street Fighter V online qualifiers will be as successful as it has been for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, giving online warriors and those who cannot afford expensive flights a chance to compete at tournament level.

Great news for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U fans who are awaiting news on a possible Switch port: Nintendo has announced that the Switch will be playable at Tokaigi 2017. For those who aren’t familiar with Tokaigi, it is a massive gaming event held in Chiba, Japan which last year held the NicoNico Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Championship, where Masahiro Sakurai previewed Corrin, Bayonetta and the Umbra Clock Tower stage ahead of their official release.

Sakurai even announced the release date of these pieces of DLC during his Tokaigi presentation and commentated the finals between Nairo and Abadango. With a recent report stating that a remastered version of Smash 4 may be coming to the Switch within six months of the console’s launch, this event seems like the perfect place to reveal more information about a potential updated port. More and more top Japanese players have been making their mark on the world stage, so 2017’s championship should be a brilliant event. Tokaigi 2017 will take place from February 11th-12th, and it will also host the national finals for the Splatoon NicoNico Championship, which is also coming to the Switch–based off Nintendo’s initial presentation.

Reddit’s r/StreetFighter community has–over the course of this week–been in the throes of a donation drive for charity, as part of the Extra Life charity gaming marathon. While the schedule includes a consortium of various streamers and Twitch channels, their purpose is a unified one–to benefit Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children.

The Hospital for Sick Children–also better known in Canada as SickKids–is a health-care community dedicated to improving the health of children. Its mission is to provide the best in family-centered, compassionate care, to lead in scientific and clinical advancement, and to prepare the next generation of leaders in child health. It is the most well-known and prestigious hospital for research and care for children in Canada.

The donation drive started on November 5th and lasts until Friday, November 11th.
