Capcom Releases the Full Details on Capcom Cup 2016

As December gets ever closer, Capcom is gearing up for the culmination of almost a year’s worth of competition with Capcom Cup 2016. To prepare fans both attending the event in person and watching online, they have released full details on how this two-day Street Fighter extravaganza will run.

Day One will be held within the Esports Arena in Santa Ana, located 10 minutes away from the PlayStation Experience in the Anaheim Convention Centre. All games will be streamed over on the Capcom Fighters Twitch channel, as players fight through the final 32-player double-elimination bracket to determine this year’s champion. All matches up to top 16 will be best two out of three, with the rest of the bracket being best three out of five. Seeding will be based on the Capcom Pro Tour Global Leaderboard, and there will be plenty of other activities to enjoy at the Esports Arena besides the actual competition itself. There will be casual play stations open all day, along with top player signing and raffle sessions, alongside food trucks from Okamoto Kitchen to fill the bellies of all World Warriors. Doors to the Esports Arena will open at 9am PST, with the actual tournament starting at 11am PST. If you just want to attend Day One of the Capcom Cup, tickets are available right here.

Day Two will see the top 8 moving to the Anaheim Convention Centre, with players competing for over $350,000 and the title of Street Fighter V World Champion. The finals will kick off at 6pm PST, with the closing ceremony set to start at 10pm, if all goes to plan. Attendees of the top 8 will require a PlayStation Experience ticket in order to watch the finals live, but this does give you access to the whole show and all the games on display. Akuma will also be playable during the PlayStation Experience, so get your tickets now to avoid disappointment.

Capcom Cup 2016 runs from Friday 2nd to Saturday 3rd December so book those flights, grab those tickets and get ready to enjoy two days of the highest level of Street Fighter.

“Fate and the Fighters”: A Red Bull Story on the Road to Battle Grounds, and It’s Conclusion

The narrative Red Bull Battle Grounds plays out for us is compelling, even to the uninitiated. The story of Liquid|NuckleDu taking down the EVO champ is just the crescendo of the entire arc of player history going on through this event. Red Bull themselves take a moment to breakdown the lead-up to this momentous victory.

We are first taken along the journey of Taiwanese player Arubi “RB” Kao, and his amazing success with Urien.

Some of the dirtiest set ups to have graced Street Fighter V were appearing on screen: Aegis Reflector into cross under, into throw baits, and unseeable 50/50s kept happening back to back at a rate that would make anybody scared of the unknown.

Despite beating many strong players, like Bonchan, RB ultimately lost to Tokido in Winners, then once more in Losers. Tokido actually had a very specific intense purpose when competing in this event, with focus being put on honing his skills.

“Recently, I have a new technique that‘s difficult to practice,” Tokido told Red Bull Esports. “In training mode, I can do it usually, but I might get nervous in tournament. So I have to try the new technique in tournament,” he added.

As the event draws to a close, many look to NuckleDu, one of Ametica’s favorite players to take the event.

After his recent Canada Cup victory, a lot of hopes and dreams were pinned onto him. The energy in the room for his victories were by far the strongest for any competitor.

Cloud and Bayonetta amiibo May Be Held Back for the Switch Super Smash Bros. Port, According to Leak

The long wait may be even longer than expected.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U amiibo collectors that are waiting for Nintendo to release the last three characters from the game: you might have an even longer wait than originally planned. Nintendo still hasn’t released Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta to complete the set, and if what Laura Dale has reported is true, it’ll be quite a while longer yet.

Dale relates that according to her sources, Nintendo plans to hold back the amiibo for Cloud and Bayonetta until the release of the Nintendo Switch’s long-rumored and expected Super Smash Bros. port–which is expected to be released within the first six months after the initial Switch launch, not as a launch title as has been previously (falsely) reported. Whether or not this delay will include the Corrin amiibo is unclear. The same sources claim that the Smash 4 Switch port will include all previous DLC–but no word yet on new features, or GameCube controller support.

Until Nintendo publicly confirms these claims, best to take this information with a grain of salt.

Some Players May Experience Motion Sickness Battling on Street Fighter V’s “Skies of Honor” Stage

For those looking to pick up Street Fighter V’s new Skies of Honor stage, here’s something you may want to consider before spending your Fight Money: a number of players have reported getting motion sickness while playing the stage.

In a recent tweet, Level|Up’s Alex Valle pointed out the issue, stating that players who paid attention to the background too much may get motion sickness. Posts in both the r/streetfighter subreddit and Shoryuken’s own forums have pointed this out as well.

Motion sickness occurs when the motion that the eye sees does not match up with what the inner ears balance system feels. Now, while motion sickness tends to be more of an issue with games played in first person view (first person shooters, racing games, etc.), this isn’t the first time that it’s been an issue with a fighting game stage.  Other fighting games stages with moving background have been known to cause this issue in the past. Examples of this include the Edinburgh MagicaPolis from Guilty Gear Xrd, as well as the Great Sea and Lylat Cruiser stages from Super Smash Bros.
