While Smash Summit 3 and Red Bull Battle Grounds were raging on the West Coast of the US, a tense Super Smash Bros. for Wii U online qualifier was raging in cyberspace. The Hero to ZeRo qualifier saw players from North America fighting it out to win that all-expenses paid trip to Las Vegas for 2GGT: ZeRo Saga in December. The top 8 was quite different to what you usually see in your typical Smash 4 bracket, with a Shulk, two Yoshis and a Mr. Game & Watch making an appearance, and a Palutena taking the whole event.

The winner, TLTC, actually started top 8 in the Losers bracket, sent there by fellow top 8 entrant Regi Shikimi’s Mr. Game and Watch in round 1 of pools. This resulted in a tough road for TLTC, fighting Burst’s Yoshi and Calculus’ Bayonetta before getting a short break with JK’s disqualification due to connection issues. After that, he had to contend with Dufaux’ Shulk before facing top ranked Villager, Aardvark in two sets of Grand Finals. Aardvark actually chose to stick to secondaries for the first two matches of Grand Finals, taking a game with his Morton before switching to R.O.B to fight off TLTC’s Palutena. After dispatching the robot, Aardvark finally pulled out Villager from his back pocket to duel with the goddess.

With the bracket reset, TLTC and Aardvark traded games, eventually reaching a game five situation where the goddess eventually won the day, rewarding TLTC with that golden ticket to Vegas. However, even though he won the grand prize, TLTC will actually be giving the flight away to a secret recipient so possibly expect one of the other top 8 contenders to be coming to 2GGT: ZeRo Saga.

MagicScrumpy is one of the most active Melee modders out there at the moment, and his mods are always a delight to see. He tackles concepts the general fanbase never even thought to consider, and shares what he discovers on his channel. We’ve gathered up another batch of his new content for your enjoyment.

Up first is one of the more interesting concepts, Pichu Climbers. Similar to his previous Fox Climbers video, this mod has two Pichus replacing the Ice Climbers, complete with new Plusle and Minum skins to compliment this electric mouse duo.

Next, it’s Zelda’s turn to be made viable as part of Scrumpy’s ongoing “Viable Melee” series. As he’s done in the past, Scrumpy attempts to keep the spirit and the core of the character effectively the same, but make some weaker options just a bit stronger to help the character compete with the rest of the cast.

Our last mod for the night is an attempt at adding Final Smashes to Melee, something only available in Brawl and Smash for Wii U. The results are a bit crazy, check them out below.

Hearing fans arguing over which characters have terrible design is nothing new. Among the more hardcore crowd, things like “character design” are usually used for character moveset, playstyle, and how that character matches up with the rest of the cast. It’s a little sobering though to realize that design does mean something completely different to the rest of the world.

WhatCulture, known for their list articles and videos, try their hand at presenting the most offensive character designs in Street Fighter history. Their opinion on this matter is a tad surprising, with them criticizing cult fan favorites, and not really branching out past Street Fighter III and Street Fighter EX. Everyone is entitled to their opinion though, and if you’d like to hear theirs, then this video is for you.

Teased early last week, Square Enix has announced that the villainous Sephiroth is coming to Final Fantasy Dissidia Arcade in an update to the game in late November. His character trailer shows Sephiroth dueling with Final Fantasy VII protagonist Cloud in the Shinra Power Plant, while the Meteor from the end of FFVII hurtles towards the planet.

Sephiroth’s moveset seems similar to his Dissidia 012 incarnation, with moves like Fervent Blow, Hell’s Gate and Scintilla present in the trailer. Some of his new moves in the trailer show him coating Masamune with a black aura before slicing at Cloud, leaving a skull over his head, as well as casting some sort of debuff on Cloud which surrounds him in a green aura. These debuffs could be key to using Sephiroth in Dissidia Arcade’s 3v3 mode, either to weaken certain opponents or to mark them for burst damage.

As mentioned, Sephiroth and the doomed Shinra Power Plant stage are coming to a new update to Dissidia Arcade in later November, so watch out for arcade footage of the One Winged Angel later this month. With Dissidia Arcade planning to come to PlayStation 4 in the near future, it could be a safe bet to assume that some sort of console announcement will be coming at the PlayStation Experience in December.

This morning Capcom announced on Twitter that a new stage called “Skies of Honor” will be added to Street Fighter V on Tuesday. The stage appears to be set on the wing of an aircraft owned by Rashid, with the fighters battling in mid-flight above a city. Like prior downloadable stages, Skies of Honor will be available for either 70,000 Fight Money or $3.99 USD.

The Raging Demon is returning! Announced after the electrifying finals at Red Bull Battle Grounds, the master of the Satsui no Hado, Akuma, is coming back to Street Fighter V. With a brief stint in Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, Akuma rejoins his fellow World Warriors to throw some purple fireballs and crush enemies underneath his sandals.

Along with his announcement, we got a glimpse at a new ruined dojo stage, complete with an angry multi-armed Asura statue in the background. Eagle-eyed fans have already noticed that the kanji on Akuma’s back is the same as Shin Akuma’s in Capcom vs. SNK 2. Is that a possible hint at his V-Trigger, with him drawing deeper from the Satsui no Hado and becoming Shin Akuma?

While no release date was teased for Akuma, he will be playable at the PlayStation Experience in Anaheim, California from December 3rd-4th, so get your tickets now if you want to play an early version of Akuma before his official release.

Over the past week, Skullgirls has been accepting pre-orders for their physical release. It was announced yesterday that within the first week, the limited pre-orders have broken 60% of their goal of 10,000, which will add Japanese voices in a future patch to Skullgirls 2nd Encore.

It was said that 3,500 copies of the PS4 version and 2,500 of the Vita version have been pre-purchased, with only one more week left to secure a copy. While these pre-orders will not run out, if you don’t place a pre-order there is no guarantee of ever getting your hands on one after this point, so be sure to act quickly.

Pop Culture Shock makes amazing statues, and recently has had a lot of Street Fighter statues on sale. Expanding on their existing collection, Pop Culture Shock has begun teasing a new Juri Han statue. She has four variants based on her Street Fighter 4 design: one basic, one with her signature glowing eye, then one black and one blue outfit.

Pre-orders are set to begin next Monday, November 14th, and the figure is estimated to ship out in 4th Quarter of 2017. This figure was also shown off at the recent New York Comic-Con, so take a look if you want to get a closer view of her. Pop Culture Shock recently announced two Evil Ryu figures, which are also available for pre-order.
