Street Fighter V’s “Illuminati Secrets” Mystery Solved: Capcom Pro Tour and Swimsuit Costume Easter Eggs Found

On Friday, Capcom posted the mysterious #Illuminatisecrets image to Street Fighter’s Twitter feed, teasing a possible method to alter Necalli and Chun-Li’s Capcom Pro Tour premium costumes. The mystery didn’t last long, as the button code to modify the costumes–in a similar method to selecting Urien’s classic look–has been discovered.

Steam user “The Who” has posted the code to Street Fighter V’s Steam discussion page; to alter these costumes, the player must press and hold LP+MP+HP+LK and hold UP on the joystick after selecting their character, and hold this combination until the match begins. It can also be activated in between rounds, if it wasn’t at the beginning of the match.

This causes slight modification to the look of the Capcom Pro Tour costumes: Necalli loses his coat, Chun-Li her feather boa, and Cammy her vest. The extra surprise: it also affects the premium swimsuit costumes! It removes Karin’s sun hat and glasses, Chun-Li’s skirt, Ibuki’s scarf (but not mask), Laura’s jersey, R. Mika’s hoodie, and Cammy’s extra gear.

This has been tested and confirmed on PlayStation 4 as well. Go give it a try!

Thanks to Saki for the tip.

MangaGamer Announces Their Localization of Golden Fantasia CROSS for Steam

While CEOtaku is raging over in Florida, a new anime fighting game is coming to the West thanks to the people over at MangaGamer. Revealed at Anime Weekend Atlanta, MangaGamer are currently localizing Golden Fantasia CROSS for PC, the fighting game based off the light novel mystery series, Umineko When They Cry. Originally developed by 07th Expansion, the localized version will be a port of the enhanced Golden Fantasia CROSS, which was released on PC in 2011 and featured the tweaks and additional characters which were seen added in the 360 exclusive title, Golden Fantasia X.

The unique mechanic of Golden Fantasia is the ‘Touch’ system, which is how players swap between their two characters. Once the Touch Gauge is filled, players can use five different Touches — Attack, Guard, Damage, Assault and Normal — to bring in their partner. Normal Touch is just a hard tag, Attack tags in your partner mid combo to continue the attack, Guard snaps your partner in while blocking, Damage acts as like Burst in Guilty Gear to break a combo and Assault has the player rush at the enemy to clear a space for your incoming team mate. Each character has a special ability which can buff their or their partner’s skills, making partner synergy of the utmost importance. These abilities are triggered either by touching, where the ability of the character being switched out is activated for the other character currently being switched in, or by summoning the ‘Metaworld’. The Metaworld activates both character abilities and gives the player access to special attacks called Meta Supers and SP Supers.

SP Supers use the SP Gauge — which is also used to activate the Metaworld — while Meta Supers drain the Meta Gauge, which appears once a player enters the Metaworld. Only one player can have the Metaworld active at once, with it going away once a player’s Meta Gauge reaches zero. You can cancel your opponent’s Metaworld activation and part of the metagame (excuse the pun) of Golden Fantasia is controlling who has access to this super powered state.

The port of Golden Fantasia does include singleplayer, online and local multiplayer so expect it to possibly feature at CEOtaku 2017, if it has been released by then.

Cleverly beats Braehmer to become two-time world champion

Nathan Cleverly (30-3, 16 KOs) beat defending champion Jurgen Braehmer (48-3, 35 KOs) to win the WBA light heavyweight title on Saturday night at the Jahnsportforum in Neubrandenburg, Germany.
Cleverly threw nonstop punches throughout the fight before Braehmer pulled out after the 6th round due to suffering a dislocated right elbow.
With the win, Cleverly, who lost the WBO belt when Sergey Kovalev stopped him in 2013, claimed his second world title.
The Welshman took the fight to Braehmer from…

DetonatioN Gaming Signs Kamemushi as their Second Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Player

Following his dominance at Japanese events like KSB 2016 and several Umeburas, alongside his spectacular finish at Evo 2016, Kamemushi has been signed by DetonatioN Gaming as their second Smash 4 player. The red Megaman — who now goes by Kameme instead of Kamemushi — made people completely rethink Megaman’s position on the tier list, with the discovery of the now infamous Kamecombo which make a stock disappear in the blink of an eye, through the combined use of a Z-drop Metal Blade, footstools, jab locks and a big Mega Upper to finish the opponent off.

Kameme joins Diddy main and world traveler Nietono with his signing to DNG and it hopefully means he will be able to attend more overseas tournaments. Nietono is a salaried player and did compete in several events this year, including Apex and Evo so Kameme should become a regular face at international tournaments now that he is sponsored. He is making the trip to Michigan for The Big House 6 next week, as well as to France to compete in Smashdown World in November so beware of the Super Fighting Robot at upcoming events.

Toukai Smash Announces Their First Ever Japanese Super Smash Bros. 64 Tournament, Including a $2,000 Prize Pool

Big news for the world of Super Smash. Bros 64, as the Japanese scene is planning to stage their biggest ever tournament. Run by ToukaiSmash, the first Toukai tournament is set to run on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in an unannounced location in Nagoya, with the goal of determining Japan’s best 64 player.

Thanks to sponsor support, this event is actually looking to have a prize pool which is rare for tournaments in Japan. So far, the sponsors have put forward ¥200,000, which is roughly $2,000. Unlike many 64 tournaments, Toukai is also planned to be streamed on both Twitch and NicoNico, meaning players will not have to wait ages for the local recordings to be uploaded to see all of the action. You won’t have to watch camera recordings of sets played on a projector, like the matches recently uploaded from Kanto 2016.

More details are available over on the official site, which has been helpfully translated by The64Story over on r/smashbros. If you are a 64 player in Japan or want to watch some 64 in between carving the turkey on Christmas Day this year, Toukai 2016 may be the thing for you.

Fighting Game and Visual Novel Hybrid Lets You Support Devs With an Innovative “Pay-What-You-Liked” DLC Model

With as specialized as the genre is, it’s rare to see fighting games be crossed over with other video game genres. As such, it’s refreshing to see an indie developer do just that with Honey Rose: Underdog Extraordinaire.

Just released on Steam Honey Rose: Underdog Extraordinaire combines fighting games with a life management visual novel. Players take control of Red, a university student who’s also an amateur masked fighter.  Players need to balance Red’s studies on her last chance to graduate from university, with her dream of fighting in the masked fighting tournament and facing her idol, Big Blue.  It’s an interesting mixing of genres that’s both fresh and somehow not unexpected, considering how many fighting games (BlazBlue, Persona 4 Arena) borrow from the visual novel genre for their story modes.

However, the hybrid genre isn’t the only innovative thing about Honey Rose: Underdog Extraordinaire.  The game sports an interesting payment model that its developers are calling “Pay-What-You-Liked”. The game itself is free, to support the developers, they’ve put up 8 pieces of “DLC”. Note that we put the term in quotes because, the DLC actually has no content at all. What they are instead are 8 donation tiers that anyone who wants to support the developers can use to do so.

This “Pay-What-You-Liked” model is an interesting use of Steam’s DLC system to implement what’s basically the “Pay-What-You-Want” model seen in places like Humble Bundle.  The fact that it makes the game itself free to download and play however makes it a much more interesting experiment – it allows players to actually try the game out, and then pay for it if they enjoyed it.  If this new model sees some some modicum of success, it may be a way for other indie fighting game developers, to attract people to play their games and experience the genre.

Tool to Remove Insecure File from Street Fighter V PC Edition Now Available

This week, we reported on one of the glaring issues with the PC version of the 1.09 patch. In this patch, there was also a so-called “rootkit” that was involved in the anti-cheat system implemented by Capcom. Due to community backlash, Capcom has had to change their course of action.

Thankfully, Capcom built a tool to help users to remove the offending file from the 1.09 patch on PC. Removing the file will help secure your computer and prevent people from maliciously using your computer without your knowledge. Given the brevity of what was installed in this patch, it is strongly stressed that you should download the tool from Capcom and take the necessary steps to remove this file.
