Arcade Hacker Project Releases CPS2 Desuicide Method to Public

A few months ago, we reported that the Arcade Hacker Project had successfully reverse engineered the security protocol on Capcom’s CPS2 arcade system. The result of this effort would allow arcade boards that had stopped working to be resurrected by software means, rather than by invasive hardware means that put the board itself at risk of permanent failure.

Several months passed with the team testing their methods to ensure that everything was correct. Finally, today, they have released their method to the general public. While the process requires some additional hardware, including an Arduino Uno board, anyone with dead Super Street Fighter II Turbo or Vampire Savior arcade boards lying around may find the investment well worth it. This could also be extended to people who may be able to find dead boards on the market so that they can get a cheap CPS2 board for their collection.

Please follow the link here to get the instructions and shopping list for the project.

CEO 2016 Champion ANTi Joins Immortals as Their First Super Smash. Bros Player

In a pick up that was prophesied by many over social media, CEO 2016 champion, counterpick master and showman Jason “ANTi” Bates has been picked up by Immortals as their first Super Smash Bros. for Wii U player. This signing comes after ANTi’s short stint with Dream Team, which saw him leave the team after issues with his player salary not being paid on time.

Announcing ANTi as part of the Immortals team, Immortals CEO Noah Whinston stated that “ANTi comes to us as both a top-tier Smash player, and a genuine showman who has nothing but love and respect for his fans. We rarely see a player with such talent across the board, and we’re thrilled to welcome this natural fit into the fold.” Known for his hot takes on Twitter and his amazing CEO entrance, ANTi brings the hype both in and outside of Smash 4. Although he hasn’t been able to hit the heights of his CEO performance as of late, the combination of a shiny new sponsor and their support structure should hopefully have ANTi tearing up top 8s in no time. ANTi’s next tournament will be 2GGaming’s Abadango Saga on September 24th so watch out for him and his brand new jersey on the stage at the Esports Arena.

Brook Releases Updated Firmware 3 Hours After PS4 Firmware Version 4.00 Releases

With every new patch from Sony comes another hurdle for the FGC: with the reliance of many players on aftermarket circuitry to power our sticks–and console developers’ insistence on locking them out, we are often hit with things like 8-minute stick timeouts on the Sony PlayStation 4 after the console’s firmware updates, should we be using something like a Brook product.

Brook–a Taiwanese company with an excellent track record of converters and circuit boards–has always been on the ball to release updated firmware themselves to counteract the patches Sony puts into place. Today comes as no exception. Sony went big with the 4.00 firmware which adds functionality in preparation for PS4 Pro. Brook went equally big and released their firmware update within 3 hours of the Sony patch going live. This was done for a twofold reason–the Japan Cup tournament coming this weekend, and the fact that a large typhoon is expected to hit Taiwan by Wednesday or Thursday, leaving them with precious time to roll the update out. You can read their story about the update rollout on Brook’s Facebook page.

The team succeeded under the time crunch, and once again proves that they are the premiere aftermarket accessory manufacturer in this age. We wish them safety in the impending typhoon!

To download the updated firmware for your board or converter of choice, please visit Brook’s website and follow the instructions included in the zip file.

Dragon Ball Z and One Piece Characters Duke it Out in New Cross-Play Update For Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden

Fans of Dragon Ball Z and One Piece will be able to play out their dream match ups, thanks to a compatibility update for Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden and One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum on Nintendo 3DS. This November, players will be able to take the fight locally or online on either title.

For years, fans have clamored for a Dragon Ball game with more depth than the average anime fighter. Bandai Namco answered that plea last year with Dragon Ball Z: Extreme Butoden for Nintendo 3DS. Don’t let its handheld home fool you, it was developed by Arc System Works, the folks behind the 2D fighting series of Guilty Gear and Blazblue. Extreme Butoden features a robust cast, multi-tiered stages, and fast paced unadulterated gameplay.

The hit anime and manga series, One Piece, is currently getting the Arc System Works treatment with One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum, which will release in Japan on September 21. The game will feature 23 playable characters alongside 80 assist characters, all from throughout the series’ 9 year history. It will also feature a competitive online “Bounty” system that allows players to rise up the ranks to become the “King of the Pirates.”

There is currently no word of an international release, but the console fighter One Piece: Burning Blood found its way west this passed May, so there is still hope! Bandai Namco will reveal further information at a later date.

Feel free to check out One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum’s character overview trailer below!

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 “Road to Boruto” Dashes to the West This February

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is receiving a brand new expansion pack titled Road to Boruto. This expansion is based on the series’ newest generation of ninja and will be hitting digital shelves in North America and Europe on February 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

The expansion will include new characters, story missions, and locations to explore. While the original Naruto manga ended nearly two years ago, there’s plenty more ninja action to experience with the Road to Boruto expansion.

Owners of the main game will only need to pay $19.99 to receive the additional content. Those who don’t currently own the game are in luck! A packaged edition was also announced that includes the base game alongside the expansion.

The packaged edition is currently only confirmed for Japan, but there’s plenty of time for Bandai Namco to announce a western physical release.

Those who pre-ordered Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 received early access to Naruto’s son, Boruto and Sasuke’s daughter, Sarada. Here’s a gameplay trailer showing off the new characters as they battle the original duo.

Interested in Joining Shadaloo? Learn All About Its Ranks in These CFN Profiles

As we’ve seen over the course of the Cinematic Story Mode “A Shadow Falls,” as well as various pieces of Concept Art and supplemental material throughout the Capcom Fighters Network Portal site, Shadaloo is an extremely large terrorist organization, comprised of many more personnel beyond the Four Heavenly Kings and the 12 Shadaloo Dolls. We even spotlighted a division of Apprentice Dolls  earlier this month. Courtesy of the Shadaloo Activity Report as provided by private Nakagawa, here’s a look inward, shining a spotlight on some of the soldiers and other employees of the organization, who faithfully serve the cause of Lord Bison behind closed doors. Now you too can experience Shadaloo’s militaristic might!

Nakagawa: This time, it’s Shadaloo’s Medical Soldiers. These are the soldiers in the Research Facility, on the second floor, Medical Room. Even if they have medical duties, they can fight. A scalpel is scary!

shadaloo-medical-soldier

Basic Info:

Name: Shadaloo Medical Soldiers
Equipment: Scalpel, Psycho Cooper Scissors, Psycho Metzenbaum Scissors, Gas Mask
Duties: Medical Treatment of the Troops, Experiments on Living Things

Nakagawa: They do everything, from the treatment of wounded soldiers to massages for desk workers. They are the persons to whom Shadaloo Soldiers should be grateful for their health. Massages are given on an appointment basis, and their prices are deducted from your salary.

Next up, are the three Ranks of Shadaloo Soldiers, many of whom can be faced in the Cinematic Story Mode as CPU-controlled NPCs with Single-Bar Variable Gauges.

Nakagawa: Finally they’ve come! Our Low-Ranking Soldiers! The unsung heroes (those who do the chores)! The central figures behind the shadows (those who get beaten)! The more I write about them, the more I get sad…

Fat Low-Ranking Shadaloo Soldier
Abel, Impersonating a Low-Ranking Shadaloo Soldier

Basic Info:

Name: Low-Ranking Shadaloo Soldiers
Equipment: Psycho Armor (Epaulets), Psycho Mask, Psycho Power Receiver, Shadaloo Employee ID Card
Duties: Base Security, Sabotage, Chores, Site Updating
Techniques: Psycho Tackle, Psycho Crusher (in name only)

Nakagawa: The Psycho Tackle is a basic technique, a brilliant rush with the shoulder, followed by a flurry of punches. The Psycho Crusher (in name only) is a move full of openings, an attempt at the mythical technique of Lord Bison. There’s a bit of stiffness after getting up again. By the way, our soldier’s formal name is AS for “Artificial Soldier.” And the Shadaloo Soldiers’ Development Program (Strengthening Project) is SADP, that’s “Shadaloo Artificial Development Programme. A bit difficult, so it’s only used by the original proposer, Lord F.A.N.G.

Nakagawa: If you thought they were coming next, you were right: the Mid-Ranking Soldiers, those stronger than us. You are promoted if you can pass an exam.

Smaller Mid-Ranking Shadaloo Soldier

Basic Info:

Name: Shadaloo Mid-Rank Soldiers
Equipment: Psycho Armor (Epaulets), Psycho Buckle, Psycho Beret, Psycho Power Receiver, Shadaloo Employee ID Card
Duties: Base Security, Sabotage, Chores, Site Updating
Techniques: Psycho Tackle, Psycho Divekick, Psycho Crusher (in name only)

Nakagawa: The Psycho Divekick is a diving kick after a jump. A dangerous technique, as you are open for a counterattack during the landing, not to mention the risk of spraining your ankle. These soldiers also take part with the Four Heavenly Kings in overseas battles and operations in foreign countries. They gave us a souvenir from their last trip to India. (Perhaps the Piece Balrog stole from Zangief?) All those who reach this rank have their eyes that have become white.

Nakagawa: High-Ranking Shadaloo Soldiers, the most powerful amongst us. Once you’ve attained this rank, you can use Psycho Power. Obviously only if you receive power directly from Lord Bison, though.

High-Ranking Shadaloo Soldier
High-Ranking Shadaloo Soldier Red Attire

Basic Info:

Name: High-Ranking Shadaloo Soldiers
Equipment: Psycho Mask, Psycho Power Receiver, Shadaloo Employee ID Card
Duties: Base Security, Sabotage, Business Support to the Four Heavenly Kings, Command of the various bases
Techniques: Psycho Tackle, Psycho Divekick, Psycho Elbow, Psycho Crusher (in name only)

Nakagawa: Psycho Elbow is the anti-air we’ve always dreamed of. You are left wide-open during landing, with a very large gap… It’s a playful, mischievous move, and we relish ever time it comes out. The soldiers entirely clad in red are extremely super ultra rare! They are the elite, and only a handful of them can surpass the tests and survive the trials. The soldiers who directly support the Four Heavenly Kings are of this type.

That wraps up our look inside Shadaloo’s dark hierarchy. But you can check out more CFN Profiles, like the characters of Street Fighter 2010, here.

Street Fighter V Producer Yoshinori Ono Will Not Be Attending Tokyo Game Show Due to Illness

With the Street Fighter V promotional bandwagon making its stop on home turf for Tokyo Game Show, and big announcements for the game scheduled, everyone who’s anyone in the game will be on hand for the festivities–but on a sad note, one of the biggest names in the community (and Capcom altogether) has had to scratch his name off the RSVP list.

Yoshinori Ono, producer of Street Fighter V–as well as Street Fighter X Tekken and Street Fighter IV–announced on Twitter today that due to health reasons, he will be unable to attend Tokyo Game Show, posting pictures of his medication regimen.

When hearing this news, one can’t help being reminded of back in 2012, when the famed producer was hospitalized near the end of the promotional run of Street Fighter X Tekken. After recovering, Ono stepped down from his position temporarily in order to recuperate.

We at Shoryuken.com wish Yoshinori Ono all the best in his recovery!

Ed Boon Confirms New Mortal Kombat XL Balance Patch, Will Hopefully Come Out Alongside PC Launch

With NetherRealm Studios hard at work in Injustice 2, more than a few players are worried that Mortal Kombat XL wouldn’t be getting any more support. While the game is nowhere near being truly broken, some characters and variations, such as the Alien’s Tarkatan variation, are considered a tad overpowered.

Well, it looks like players won’t have to worry anymore. In a recent tweet, NetherRealm’s Ed Boon had confirmed that they are working on a balance patch for Mortal Kombat XL.

A PC release for the Mortal Kombat XL update is currently in the works, and NetherRealm hopes to release the balance patch to all versions at alongside this update. As for what these balance changes will entail, Ed Boon stated that they will be discussing them in a future edition of their Kombat Kast podcast.
