Daigo Umehara’s Book “The Will to Keep Winning” Now Available on Kindle

The English language version of Daigo Umehara’s book “The Will to Keep Winning” is now available digitally through Amazon’s Kindle service. Originally published in 2012, Daigo’s book focuses on his path to becoming the world’s most recognized Street Fighter player, as well as his competitive philosophy.

Umehara’s rise to the top of the fighting game pantheon has been well documented; at age 17 he was thrust into international competition, facing off against a young Alex Valle at the Street Fighter Alpha 3 World Championships in 1998. For nearly two decades Daigo has maintained a level of dominance across multiple games that players across the world aspire to.

Earlier this year Daigo launched his stream BeasTV and was recently named Twitch’s first global ambassador in addition to his Red Bull partnership. Once known for his steely demeanor, Daigo now plays hosts to Japan’s top fighting game players every week, exhibiting top level play and strategy tips. BeasTV streams in English and Japanese each Friday on https://www.twitch.tv/daigothebeastv and replays are available on Youtube.

“The Will to Keep Winning” is available through Amazon for $14.99, and can be read through the Kindle app on most mobile devices.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 “True Transformations Trailer” Unlocks Custom Characters’ Potential

Another day, another “sparking” Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 trailer! This one in particular highlights the heroes and villains doing what they do best, along with the new custom character transformations. The footage from this English trailer should seem familiar however, as it is mainly taken from a Japanese trailer released in July.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is focusing on “expanding the experience” with each of the playable races, and these new transformations are bound to make custom characters more enjoyable to play with.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is releasing on current generation consoles and PC, as Namco Bandai plans to create the “largest and most detailed Dragon Ball world ever developed.”

Players will take the role of a Time Patroller, a time-traveling defender of history, similar to in the original title. This time however, the past is meant to be changed.

The title is set to release in North America on October 25 and in Europe on October 28, on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Steam users will have to wait just a little bit longer when the game releases on PC internationally on October 28.

Tyson Fury faces UK Anti-Doping charge

WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (25-0, 18 KOs) has been charged by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) following an alleged positive test for a banned substance.
The Sunday Mirror reported on June 26 that traces of nandrolone were found in a urine sample taken from Fury back in February 2015. The same report states that Fury’s cousin, heavyweight contender Hughie, had also tested positive for the banned substance. The Fury camp denies all allegations, claiming the results were…

Lost Atomiswave Arcade Fighter “KenJu” Found by Collector

At the turn of the last millennium, almost every developer was working on some form of arcade fighting game–while many of these eventually saw the light of day, more than a few never made it past the testing stage. One such unfortunate game was KenJu.

Arcade board collector ShouTime was recently able to acquire the prototype board for KenJu, thanks to an unnamed benefactor who sent him the rare item. He’s shared some offscreen video of the game in action on Tumblr.

http://shoutime.tumblr.com/post/148100072700/kenju-ac-uncovered-due-to-a-generous

In development at Dream Factory (of Tobal and Ergheiz fame), KenJu was one of the many fighters being developed for Sammy’s Atomiswave arcade board. The game was to feature cel-shaded 3D graphics and 2d gameplay on a 3D field–similar to Capcom’s popular Rival Schools games. Work on the game seemed to have proceeded as far as location testing outside Japan (with the game being seen in London, of all places) before it was cancelled.

Here are a few more videos of KenJu from accel99.

As for why it was cancelled, no one knows. While arcade games being cancelled–even after testing–isn’t unheard of, KenJu had the additional bad luck of being in development at a time when arcades and arcade fighting games were seen as being in decline.

Did we miss out on what may have been an interesting fighter, or was this just another dud that we would have forgotten anyway? Share your thoughts on this in the comments below.

Bandai Namco Addresses Tekken X Street Fighter Status & Possible New Tekken 7: Fated Retribution Characters

Bandai Namco Brand Manager Mark Religioso recently spoke about his company’s decision to focus on fleshing out Tekken 7: Fated Retribution’s story mode; in the full Dualshockers interview below, Religioso speaks optimistically about the forthcoming console release of the latest Tekken title and how his company has been “fine tuning the game” during the time it has been available in Japan’s arcades. He regrettably informs viewers that the development of Tekken X Street Fighter is officially on hold, noting that with their focus being on Fated Retribution, it wouldn’t be the “best time” to release the long-awaited crossover. Back on the positive side, he teases that there will be even more new characters joining the game’s roster, and that there should be an announcement regarding that soon.

Take a Look at Pop Culture Shock’s New Street Fighter Figures from San Diego Comic-Con

Pop Culture Shock always delivers the goods when it comes to high quality Street Fighter statues and figures; these latest shots captured by Toy News International are from PCS’s booth at San Diego Comic-Con, and they include the first look at some of the toy company’s 1:6 scale figures. Though they have covered a good number of World Warriors already, these latest models include a render of Alex, a Chun-Li sporting her pink alternate, M. Bison showing off his psycho power and–most unexpectedly–a battle-ready Oni. We also see a 1:12 scale Ryu in his blue gi performing a perfect Tatsu, as well as some more angles of the previously revealed Ken and Akuma statues. Check out the full gallery below for a good eyeful of what’s to come.

Ed Boon Asks Fans “What’s Next?” In Mortal Kombat X Twitter Poll

Ed Boon has recently posted a Twitter poll asking fans what news they would like to hear regarding Mortal Kombat X:

Though the choices were limited, each one is significant to members of the Mortal Kombat X community: MKX for PC has had it’s share of troubles, and some believe that the port is being almost completely ignored. cR|SonicFox has claimed victory in the past three seasons of the ESL tournament series, and a fourth season would reopen the opportunity for a new victor–or at least another chance for previous competitors. Character adjustments are an ongoing discussion in any part of the FGC–but for MKX in particular, the game balance has been a concerning area for some.

While it isn’t certain the poll results will effect Mortal Kombat X directly, but it was still an opportunity for fans to weigh on on what they want to see happen next: which, based on the final results, is more PC support for MKX going forward.

2GGaming Announces “Breakthrough!”: an Arcadian Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Event for Aspiring Players

Alongside its Sagas for top level competitive play, 2GGaming has just announced Breakthrough!, an Arcadian-style event for Super Smash Bros. Smash for Wii U, focusing on leveling up those newer players within the community. Similar to Melee Arcadian events held around the country, this tournament will be for unranked players only. If you are outside of SoCal and wish to compete, you must fill out this form to see if you are eligible to enter; this is to stop players who may be ranked in other regions from entering and ruining the spirit of the event for others.

As this tournament is primarily for improving players of the same skill level, 2GG Breakthrough will run round robin pools to start, then going on to a 128-player double elimination bracket. This ensures that even if you don’t make it to the bracket, you are guaranteed to play more than two games–which is all you might get if you were a newcomer entering a double elimination tournament. If you are in a pool of eight players, you will play seven matches, which is fantastic for those who may not have experience in a tournament setting.

Ranked SoCal players will be in attendance, but their goal will be to coach and guide new players, giving them vital feedback after matches, as well as having opportunities to meet and greet. Registration is now live via 2GG’s dedicated smash.gg page.

King of Fighters XIV’s Yasuyuki Oda Talks DLC Characters and More in GAME Watch Interview

SNK recently brought the upcoming King of Fighters XIV to the ChinaJoy expo in Shanghai; during the event, GAME Watch was able to catch up with director Yasuyuki Oda for an interview.

The interview itself was mostly focused on how the game was being received in China–an important market for King of Fighters. That said, they also touched on the game’s downloadable content: according to Oda, they have no plans for DLC characters at the moment. However, he did state that “anything could happen” later down the line. As part of this, Oda also addressed the topic of a crossover between KOF and Dead or Alive (DOA5 Last Round is getting Mai Shiranui as a guest character) stating that there are no plans to add characters from the latter into King of Fighters.

As for the game’s future, Oda stated that they plan to roll out one balance patch per year for King of Fighters XIV, in part because Oda will be focusing on another SNK game after KOFXIV has been released.
