Kombo Klash Comes to England with VSFighting 2016 as a Killer Instinct World Cup Qualifier

Sneaking onto the Kombo Klash World Circuit, Electronic Dojo has partnered with Ultra Arcade to make VSFighting 2016 the English leg in the road to the Killer Instinct World Cup. Joining the likes of Kombo Klash France and Kombo Klash Netherlands, this tournament gives European Killer Instinct players three chances to strut their stuff on their home continent and hopefully win a place at the KI World Cup.

As with other Kombo Klash events, first place will guarantee a spot at KI World Cup, with everyone up to 13th place receiving ranking points toward earning a spot in that World Cup bracket. This announcement does come as a bit of a last-minute surprise, but it will no doubt fan the fire among those already signed up, as taking first place means more than just a gold medal.

The tournament will be streamed over on the official VSFighting Twitch channel, which will also feature action from Street Fighter V, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mortal Kombat X, Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- and Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, so make sure to tune in for a weekend of top notch action. As is tradition at VSFighting, there will also be a Super Street Fighter II: Turbo tournament on Saturday, August 6th, with same-day signups for the low price of £5.00.

Arc System Works Offers a Sneak Peek at BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s Console Game Modes

Arc System Works has updated the Japanese BlazBlue: Central Fiction website with some details about the gameplay modes for the upcoming console version. BlazBlue’s trifecta of practice modes, Tutorial, Training, and Challenge, will make a return; the modes will take a page from Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- and show input on an arcade stick display.

Abyss Mode has been rebranded as “Grim of Abyss.” As before, it will be a type of survival mode where your character acquires and equips gameplay-impacting skills. The Collection and Gallery Modes will allow purchasing of in-game items such as character colors, artwork, posters, and more.

The Story Mode will present the tale in an adventure game/visual novel style, with over 30 hours of estimated gameplay. The website mentions two characters “from another world” making an appearance: Naoto Kurogane and Es, the “heroine from another Tale of the Azure.”

Capcom Has Shipped Fewer Copies of Street Fighter V Than Originally Projected

Capcom’s quarterly earnings report has indicated that over the last three months, the publisher has shipped fewer than 100,000 copies of Street Fighter V. Additionally, sales figures compiled by Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu have revealed that only 81,854 copies of Street Fighter V for PlayStation 4 have sold in Japan during the period of December 28, 2015 to June 26, 2016–while placing it at #43 out of Japan’s top fifty sellers, this is still far short of Capcom’s desired projections.

It certainly seems that Capcom is still reaping the whirlwind of Street Fighter V’s shaky launch and ongoing negative perception of being an “incomplete” product; while the addition of the expanded Story Mode, new fighters, and other add-on content are helping fight that perception, it still has a ways to go. Street Fighter V’s competitive reception has been much more positive, however–the increased exposure from large events such as Evo 2016, particularly ESPN2’s coverage, may yet still help put Street Fighter V on a smoother course.

Travis “Samox” Beauchamp Unveils a Big Format Change to Upcoming Super Smash Bros. Melee Documentary “Metagame”

In quite a drastic change of plan, “The Smash Brothers” director Travis “Samox” Beauchamp has announced that the sequel, titled “Metagame,” will now take the form of an episodic series rather than a feature film. Metagame was initially scheduled for winter of this year, but thanks to the substantial nature of this change, the series will now be released in early 2017.

This change in style does give Samox greater freedom to really dig into side stories and tangents alongside the documentary’s main narrative arc, as he is no longer limited to the usual 2-hour run time of a feature film. As such, expect lengthy 40 to 50 minute episodes within this series, similar to the original The Smash Brothers documentary.

Samox will be hosting a panel at Super Smash Con to talk about the production process of the original documentary, answering any questions about the current series, and showing off another glimpse of Metagame. He will also be filming at Super Smash Con–focusing on capturing footage on the younger generation enjoying Smash, to juxtapose against serious tournament play. If you are a younger Super Smash Con attendee–or know a friend or relative who is–and want to be part of the film, get in touch with Samox via Twitter or email to register your interest.
