Unlockable Street Fighter V Colors Coming to In-Game Shop

Up until now, the only method to unlock additional colors in Street Fighter V has been to complete Survival mode on varying difficulties (color 3 for easy mode, colors 4, 5 and 6 for normal mode, and colors 7, 8, 9, and 10 for hard mode). On paper it sounds harmless enough, but in application the grueling CPU difficulty in later stages, inconsistent stat bonuses between rounds, and the fact that you’re required to play through all three difficulty settings to get all the colors (and do it over again for each alternate costume) meant that a lot of the playerbase has just been sticking to options 1 and 2.

The official Street Fighter Twitter recently dropped some news that’s sure to have players, spectators and tournament organizers alike celebrating–there’s an alternative in the works! Bundles of colors 3-10 for each character will be for sale on the PSN and Steam stores. You’ll also be able to pick them up in the in-game shop with your hard-earned fight money. There are no details regarding a release date, pricing, or the ability to pick and choose which colors you’d like to buy at the moment, but we may hear something during the Street Fighter V panel at San Diego Comic Con this weekend.

Two Wednesday Night Fights Regulars Were Involved in an Accident on the Way to Evo, Here’s How You Can Help

While this year’s Evo was the biggest and most hype one yet, for a part of our community, it was one marred in tragedy. On the early hours of July 15, Southern California players Bobby Garcia and Jordan Bryan were on their way to Evo when they were involved in a collision with a drunk driver on Interstate 15.

Bobby lost his life in the accident while Bryan is currently in critical, but stable condition. Specifically, Jordan suffered a broken arm and jaw, as well as severe head trauma. As a result of all this, he is in need several surgeries.

Both Bobby and Jordan were Wednesday Night Fights regulars and good friends of many in the Southern California scene. Bobby was a kind soul with a humble heart who loved multiple fighting games. Jordan is a part-time student who also works a full-time job to help his mother, yet always finds time to play fighting games with his friends. Both were looking forward to playing Street Fighter V at Evo 2016 when the accident occurred.

For those interested in helping out Bobby and Jordan’s families in this time of need, GoFundMe drives have been set up for both of them. You can help Bobby’s family cover his funeral costs here. Meanwhile, those who want to help Jordan’s family cover the costs of the medical procedures he needs can go here.

We here at Shoryuken offer our condolences to Bobby’s family and hope that Jordan recovers from this.

Guzman outguns Wake to win IBF super bantamweight title

Unbeaten big puncher Jonathan Guzman (22-0, 22 KOs) scored a 11th round stoppage over Shingo Wake (20-5-2, 12 KOs) to win the vacant IBF super bantamweight title on Wednesday at the Edion Arena in Osaka, Japan.
Guzman, of the Dominican Republic, floored the home fighter twice in the second, bloodied his cheek, and dropped him again in the third and fifth.
Wake battled on, but he was taking a beating and his right eye was swollen shut by the time referee Wayne Hedgpeth waved the fight off at…

Watch Japan’s Finest Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Players at Umebura 24 This Weekend

High off their stellar performance at Evo 2016, Japan’s finest Smash 4 players are returning home to compete at their monthly national, Umebura in Tokyo this weekend. Players like Kamemushi, Rain, Nietono and Ranai should be in attendance, as well as those who did not make the journey to travel like FILIP, Japan’s main Mario, and Brood, one of Japan’s main three Duck Hunt players.

The whole event will be streamed on Twitch by SHI-Gaming so make sure to tune in to watch how the Japanese home guard fare against those who competed abroad. Note that Umebura 24 will be starting around 9:30 AM JST on Sunday so it will be showing around 5:30 PM PDT for reference. Umebura is known for some wacky results, with noted Japanese players like Earth and Abadango placing as low as 33rd at Umebura 23 so expect upsets on par with American majors. This is also the place to start scouting talent for Evo Japan so look out for hidden bosses and players with potential for when Japan has its own mega-major sometime in the near future.

Chun-Li and R. Mika Officially Join the Summer Fun with New Costumes in Street Fighter V

As promised, the Capcom Pro Tour Premium content (including the Evo-customized Ring of Destiny stage, as well as new costumes and other items) is already available for purchase individually or as a bundle on PSN, but Capcom snuck in two of the previously leaked swimsuit outfits as well: Chun-Li and R. Mika have joined Karin on the beach with new premium costumes, now available for purchase.

The outfits will set you back three to four dollars or euro each, depending on your region. With the swimsuit and CPT costume selections, it seems clear that rather than Street Fighter IV’s full-cast outfit spreads, we can expect individual characters to get their own unique outfits in more single-shot purchases going forward.

Here’s What Capcom Has Planned For Street Fighter at the San Diego Comic-Con

Hot off the amazing Street Fighter V action at Evo, Capcom is now gearing up for one of the biggest fan conventions on Earth–the San Diego Comic-Con.

As they do every year, Capcom will be holding a Street Fighter panel at the event. For this year, the “Street Fighter Nation” panel will take place on Thursday, July 21, at 12:45 PM at Room 6BCF of the San Diego Convention Center.

Capcom tends to reveal a lot about their plans for Street Fighter at their SDCC panel–2010 had the reveal of Street Fighter X Tekken, last year was where we saw our first glimpse of the silhouettes for the season 1 characters for Street Fighter V–so we’ll likely be shown something new related to Street Fighter V.

Street Fighter V itself will be available for both casual play and tournaments throughout each day of the event.

In addition to this, Capcom will be bringing plenty of Street Fighter-related collectibles to the event. These include an alternate color Street Fighter V Ryu statue, Street Fighter figurines from Funko POP (including a Hot Ryu figure), Ryu plush gloves, dioramas from Bigboystoys, and more.

Some of these will be SDCC exclusives which fans can have signed by Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono. These include a Ryu statue from PrototypeZ, Kidorobot’s Akuma figure, the aforementioned Funko POP figures, Nsurgo SF Skateboards, and art prints from UDON.

You can check all of these out at in the gallery below.

Yoshinori Ono Apologizes for No New Street Fighter V Reveals at Evo 2016 Finals

Many players come to expect big reveals at the close of a major event–and as Evo is as big as they get, some were undoubtedly expecting something new from Capcom for Street Fighter V either before or after the top 8 fought it out. Katsuhiro Harada revealed Bob and Master Raven were bound for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, complete with gameplay trailers; and while we got the announcement of a forthcoming Evo Japan, and confirmation that Juri will be available before July is over, Yoshinori Ono provided no surprise character(s) or other content before or after the finals.

Ono responded on Twitter to disappointment voiced about the lack of new SFV content as compared to Tekken’s, apologizing to fans and indicating more is to come before and/or at Capcom Cup:

The Capcom panel at Evo 2016 did already reveal the CPT premier content package, including the Ring of Destiny stage that was featured throughout the SFV finals.

Bill Walton Loves Evo, and He Wants the World to Know

Evo 2016 ended up being a huge turning point for it’s visibility in outside-the-FGC news media. As the event drew record breaking numbers, it aired for the first time ever on ESPN2. Perhaps, though, there’s no better sign of it’s continued creeping into mainstream acceptance than Legendary Bruin Center Bill Walton gushing over the event.

Walton sang the praises of games he was clearly emotionally invested in watching, and the sportsmanship and history that went on there. In the all-to-brief segment, Walton surprised his interviewer with boundless enthusiasm and knowledge.

Then he was asked what got him into the FGC in the first place.

“My future is the business of sport,” Bill pulled back his giddy grin for a bit to get serious. Still passionate, but now he was being predictive; “This is what the business of sport is about for all of our future.” It was hard to read this any other way: Walton was openly championing continued FGC coverage.

“We got to witness some of the greatest champions I have ever been close to.” To hear Bill say that and name check SonicFox, Chris G, Justin Wong, and not, you know, a sports figure the ESPN demographic would normally applaud… for our community, that’s powerful.

Little Billy warning you not to miss the “intergalactic championship” of Street Fighter V shows just how real the fun he’s having is. ESPN, or really anyone, should consider using him as their regular E-sports spokesperson. Palpable passion and name recognition both go a long way, and he has both.

Between his endorsement, Xavier Woods, Jamie Lee Curtis, and more, Evo’s profile keeps getting raised. Who will be the FGC’s next celebrity endorsement?

Limited-Edition Layered Prints Added to UDON’s San Diego Comic-Con Swag Selection, Signable By Yoshinoro Ono

When UDON announced their upcoming exclusive items for sale at San Diego Comic-Con, they hinted at more surprises to come: Capcom-Unity has revealed one such surprise item in the form of extremely limited-edition special layered Street Fighter V prints.

SFV_LayeredPrint_pvSized at 18 inches by 25 inches, the prints feature a multi-layer design that allows the character art to be reordered or swapped out from against the SFV logo backdrop. Offered in a default or Battle Costume variant, they will only be producing 50 of the regular set and 25 of the alternate; either one costs $100 USD each, and can be pre-ordered here–but unfortunately, at the time of this writing the Battle Costumes version is already sold out; it seems Hot Ryu’s appeal is just that irresistible.

UDON will have Street Fighter V Executive Producer Yoshinori Ono at their booth (#4529) on Saturday, July 23 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, enabling customers to have this print signed by not only the artists in attendance, but Ono as well. Ono will also have an exclusive metal card to give away at the booth.
