Fuudo Speaks at DreamHack Summer 2016 about Playing R. Mika and European Players

The Capcom Pro Tour interview series continues, and this time, Capcom community manager Matt Edwards has a conversation with RZR|Fuudo.

The Japanese player shares his thoughts on the European competition and how it changed since his last visit. He believes that the younger players are coming along well. As for using R. Mika, he didn’t think that she would be a character for him at first, but after labbing things up in training mode, he’s grown to like her. BX3|Phenom’s Necalli kept Fuudo guessing with a liberal use of dragon punches.

Check out the full interview below.

The translator for the interview is FA|Ryan Hart, who was also interviewed at DreamHack Summer 2016.

Street Fighter V X Sanwa Denshi Balltops Now Available for Pre-Order at Arcade Shock

Arcade Shock is no stranger to bringing out Sanwa arcade parts featuring unique designs. A few months back, they released a series of Street Fighter V themed balltops and buttons, now they’re following that up with another set of special balltops.

This new series of Street Fighter V x Sanwa Denshi balltops features character art by Motoki Yoshihara. For those who’re unfamiliar with his work, Yoshihara is responsible for the Basara manga that Capcom publishes in Japan. Additionally, he also did the Street Fighter III: 3rd Universe design for SPLITFRAME.

The images on these balltops are done in Yoshinara’s unique style, eschewing the 3D model art look that’s more common today.

Pre-orders for these are now open at Arcade Shock, the balltops themselves will officially launch at Evo this July.

Tokido Discusses Japan’s Success in Street Fighter V: ‘We Practice a Lot; We Don’t Play Online’

Japan has always been a dominant force when it comes to competitive fighting games. Even in Street Fighter V–a game without an arcade release–Japanese players are still doing well in tournaments.

In a short interview with Yahoo! Esports’ Dylan Walker, Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi addresses Japan’s dominance, saying that it’s because they do practice a lot. Additionally, he states that they do not play online, opting instead to play together whenever they can. When pressed further about this, Tokido goes on to say that the players in Japan share information with each other so that all the players can continue to grow stronger.

Of course, that’s not the only thing that they discuss. Tokido also talks about competing as one of the best players who currently doesn’t have a sponsor.

Uncertainty for Street Fighter V’s Future? Daigo Umehara Comments on Capcom Cup and Importance of Arcade Culture in Japan

When Daigo Umehara–Red Bull partner, Twitch Global Brand Ambassador, one of the most well-known professional players in the FGC–speaks out about Street Fighter V or the Capcom Pro Tour, players tend to take notice. A number of interesting comments by Umehara, taken from his BeasTV channel, have been posted to Twitter by BeasTV producer Jiyuna.

Consistent with his attitude that he expressed previously, Umehara’s focus is less on winning specifically, but more on exploring his style and preparing for the upcoming Capcom Cup.

Umehara is apparently not feeling ready to compete at Evo 2016 yet. But surprisingly, in addition to this, he indicates uncertainty that Street Fighter V will remain the focus of the Capcom Pro Tour, or possibly tournament play in general, in years to come.

Significantly, Umehara reportedly feels the lack of an arcade version of Street Fighter V is holding back its acceptance by the Japanese FGC.

Jiyuna elaborates further on the arcade scene in Japan:

An interesting disparity between fighting games in Japan and much of the rest of the world; could Street Fighter V fail in Japan without this social connection? Time will tell if Umehara’s comments reflect more than his personal opinion.

See Sylvie, Kukri, and Mian In Action in the King of Fighters XIV’s Latest Team Trailer

SNK and PlayStation are back once again with another weekly team trailer for the King of Fighters XIV. This time, the trailer focuses on the eclectic group of newcomers that make up the “Official Invitation Team.”

Two of the members, the sand-bending Kukri and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu-inspired Sylvie, have already been introduced before. This is, however, the first time that we’ve seen the third team member, Mian, in action.

A Bian Lian performer, Mian brings with her her art’s traditional masks that she quickly switches between in battle. This seems to indicate that she may be a “stance” character, with each mask allowing access to different moves.

The King of Fighters XIV will hit PlayStation 4 on August 23 in North America, August 25 in Japan, and August 26 in Europe.
