According to a tweet from Microsoft’s own Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb, Samurai Shodown II is now playable on the Xbox One thanks to the magic of backwards compatibility. If you do decide to give this a go, you’ll be playing the 2008 Xbox Live Arcade port of SNK’s 1994 classic.

The game joins a growing list of fighting titles that have become backwards compatible. The Xbox One now plays host to titles like Tekken Tag Tournament 2, The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match, Soulcalibur I and II, and Skullgirls. With a huge back catalog of fighters to draw on, you have to assume that there will only be more to come.

So if you’re looking for some classic samurai battling on your Xbox One, you can grab Samurai Shodown II from the Xbox Live Marketplace for about 10 bucks.

Unique names being tied to accounts on social media sites can result settling for an alternative account name because your preferred handle is already in use. One such instance occurred when the official Evo Twitter account was created. As many likely know, the account could be found under the handle “Evo2K” for a number of years; however, that is no longer the case.

The folks at Twitter were kind enough to relocate the official Evo Twitter account to the previously inactive “Evo” name. If you’re looking for up-to-the-second updates for all things relating to the Evolution Championship Series, be sure to give Evo a follow.

Canada Cup has always been one of the more hype events on the tournament calendar. Lap Chi Duong and his crew at Canada Cup Gaming have been doing their best to bring over some of the best players, even if it means that the tournament occasionally falls on hard times.

With this in mind, we’re happy to report that Canada Cup will be returning this year on October 28. The tournament will take place at the Holiday Inn at the Toronto International Airport in Toronto Canada, and will once again be a part of the Capcom Pro Tour as a premier event for Street Fighter V.

In addition to this, it will also host tournaments for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Guilty Gear Xrd, Tekken 7 Fated Retribution, Super Smash Bros., Mortal Kombat X, and Killer Instinct.

For those interested in attending, registration for Canada Cup 2016 opens on June 1. In the meantime, check out this new trailer for the event.

With Guile now out for Street Fighter V on PlayStation 4 and PC, many are likely wondering what this newest appearance means for the returning character. It’s this question and more that BROKENTIER’s Jay “Viscant” Snyder addresses in the latest edition of his “Hit the Ground Running” article series.

The first thing that Viscant notes is how some of Guile’s traditional buttons have slightly less range in Street Fighter V. This includes traditionally strong buttons such as crouching forward kick as well as his aerial normals.

Viscant also identifies some of Guile’s notable command normals that every player will want to learn, including Backfist (towards and fierce), Step Kick (neutral or back and roundhouse), Straight Punch (back and fierce), and Sobat Kick (back or towards and forward kick). These moves either act as crush counters, or move Guile forward while still keeping him relatively safe. Sobat Kick also allows for a combo on counter-hit, making it more useful than in previous games.

As for his Sonic Boom, based on the frame data, it’s arguably the best normal projectile in the game. Guile’s booms take only 38 frames of animation, compared to the other characters whose projectiles have over 40 frames of animation. Also, with +8 frame advantage on hit, Guile can always combo into a sweep as long as hes close enough.

His Flash Kick on the other hand is not a true reversal, except for the EX version. However, each version of the move comes with projectile and throw invulnerability during the relevant early frames, meaning that they will work in situations where you don’t need a true reversal.

The legendary Mikado Game Center at Takadanobaba Station in Tokyo’s Shinjuku ward has been hosting a number of events for Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- these past few weeks.

Fresh from hosting the Mikado Open a couple of weeks back, Mikado will be holding a special exhibition event featuring two of the game’s notable players this weekend.

Nakamura and his Millia will be going up against Karinchu’s Johnny in a first-to-seven set. Nakamura will be familiar to most players as one of the top 8 finalists at Evolution 2015. Karinchu, on the other hand, started Xrd with Ramlethal, but has now switched to Johnny in -REVELATOR-.

The exhibition will start this Saturday at 6 PM JST (2 AM Pacific, 5 AM Eastern) and will be streamed at Jonio’s Twitch channel twitch.tv/joniosan.

This Sunday sees the start of the top 8 bracket of the Street Fighter V Crash tournament series. 8 teams comprised of some of the best players in the region will now fight for the chance at the gold.

The matches on Sunday will involve Group A of the bracket. This group is generally considered to be a “death pool,” as it contains two of the strongest teams at the moment: Team Topanga, consisting of EG|Momochi, Tokido, and Mago; and Team Razer with RZR|Infiltration, RZR|Xian, and RZR|Fuudo.

The other two teams are no slouches themselves. Team GZ Dojo features Qanba’s Dakou, as well as Xiaohi and Abao, and Team Daddy’s Going has Aiku, MaestroSora, and Street Fighter veteran Zzangmoo.

With a bracket as stacked as this one, this Sunday’s edition of Street Fighter V Crash is sure to be a real slobberknocker.

Street Fighter V Crash’s Top 8 Group A will start Sunday, May 8 at 2:00 PM KST. This means the the tournament will be taking place at 10 PM Pacific (1 AM Eastern) on Saturday evening. Those interested can check out the livesteam on twitch.tv/crash_en.

Alex Jebailey is best known as the founder of Community Effort Orlando, and for the last couple of years he has continued to make a name for himself within the fighting game community as the Public Relations & Community Manager for Iron Galaxy Studios. Well, now it seems that he’s leaving one of those roles behind.

In a recent post on Facebook, Jebailey announced that he is stepping down from his position at IGS. In the post, Jebailey had nothing but kind words to say when looking back on his time at the studio, stating that the position allowed him to learn and experience many things he wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.

When we reached out to Jebailey earlier today, he assured us that, no, he is not going to be working for the WWE, nor will he be leading an FGC team sponsored by Popeye’s. He was also quick to note how much he appreciates everyone’s support in response to his next step, though he was not yet ready to reveal exactly what that next step will entail.

We at Shoryuken wish Alex Jebailey the best in his upcoming endeavors, which he will be prepared to discuss in more detail next week.

If you’re not satisfied with the rest of the Season 3 offerings, or just have a hankering to slash some cybernetic dinosaurs and ice-slinging alien life forms with an energy sword, you can now do so without having to commit to a larger purchase.

As a change from the ordinary, Arbiter comes bundled with his retro outfit, all its applicable accessories, as well as his premium accessory set. This does mean that his price is a bit higher than individual characters often are, and he’ll set you back $9.99.
