Pop Culture Shock’s Ken Masters Statue Turns Up the Heat

Pop Culture Shock has been on a roll as of late with their new line of Street Fighter V statues.  Following up on offerings for Cammy, Nash, and Necalli statues, their latest statue highlights none other than Ken Masters.

The 1:4 statue features Ken in his trademark “come get me” taunt, challenging whoever he’s fighting to take him head on. The model itself was sculpted based on in-game 3D data from Capcom, and features a real cloth gi for extra realism.

As with all of Pop Culture Shock’s Street Fighter V statues, the Ken statue comes in a regular variant, as well as three online exclusives. The latter all come with a limited edition “smirk” face.

Pre-orders are now open, with the regular variant priced at $374.99 and the online exclusives priced at $379.99. Various discounts are available while supplies last, with shipments expected to begin January 17, 2017.

Iron Galaxy Shines a Light on Killer Instinct’s Updated Visuals

When Killer Instinct season three drops this March, new characters and stages won’t be the only additions to the rebooted title. Iron Galaxy Studios recently provided a quick look at the game’s updated visuals.

In a new blog post, Killer Instinct art director Chad Greene talks about what they’re doing to enhance its aesthetics. Most of this will come from a new dynamic lighting system that changes how players perceive what’s on the screen. “[Season one] had a ‘deep black’ look that many fans really loved, and we’ve gone back to it (with a ton of upgrades!), so you’ll see deeper darks and more ‘mood’ throughout all the stages,” Greene explains.

Old lighting on the left, new lighting on the right.

Other additions to the graphics include new reflection technology for the stages, as well as the re-introduction of screen space color adjustments that work with gameplay. Characters now get realistic bounce and fill lighting while also receiving strong rim lighting to help pull them out from the background.

Street Fighter V Servers Undergoing Scheduled Maintenance

After a number of quick fixes were applied to the poor launch of Street Fighter V, the developers have seen fit to bring the game’s servers down today for a bit of scheduled maintenance. Starting at 1 PM PST (4 PM EST, 9 PM GMT) and ending around 4 PM PST (7 PM EST, 12 AM GMT), this period will be spent reviewing the growing list of issues and prioritizing their correction.

If you’re out of the loop, players excited to jump into the world of Street Fighter V were met with a number of problems as soon as it game released last week. Servers routinely booted users offline, matchmaking was a chore, and lobbies were broken to the point of uselessness. It was, essentially, the complete opposite of a successful launch.

Capcom has kept players apprised of their fixes via regular updates on Capcom-Unity as well as ongoing support from SFV Server. We’ll be sure to keep everyone updated as more information on their current work becomes available.

Street Fighter V is Already Breaking Registration Records at Evo 2016

One of the biggest questions surrounding Street Fighter V’s competitive future was if it would have the same impact on the community as its predecessor, and the latest details from the Evolution Championship Series organizers prove that it’s on pace to be even bigger.

Just four days after registration opened, Street Fighter V has broken Evo’s already lofty registration records. While an exact figure wasn’t provided, looking back at the previous records set at Evo 2015 gives us an idea of how high the numbers have reached.

Last year, Ultra Street Fighter IV raised the bar with 2227 individual competitors, the largest collection of players the tournament had seen since its inception. The fact that it’s taken the community less than a week to surpass that number is incredible.

Evo 2016 is scheduled for July 15-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Street Fighter V is among the handful of titles that will have their finals showcased at the massive Mandalay Bay arena on Sunday. Further details can be found here.

Alex’s V-Skill Will “Embody” His Grappling Style in Street Fighter V

During Sony’s massive Singapore launch party for Street Fighter V last Friday, Geek Culture was on hand to talk to talk to assistant producer Tomoaki Ayano.

The interview itself covered a lot of ground regarding the newly released game, such as how feedback from Evo 2013 champion RZR|Xian helped shape the game’s V-Gauge. According to Ayano, when taking in feedback before Street Fighter V was officially announced, Xian suggested that the then hypothetical follow-up to Street Fighter IV needed a second resource meter that filled up as you took damage, similar to the Revenge Gauge but with a different twist. This eventually led to the creation of V-Skills, V-Triggers, and more.

The producer also briefly touched on how the game’s first post-launch character, Street Fighter III protagonist Alex, will play. Ayano stated that, since he’s younger, his moves will be different than folks are used to and that his V-skill will emphasize grappling. This is interesting news for fans of the character, as his previous incarnations focused more on using pokes and meter to push his opponents to the corner over pure grappling.

Of course, these are just some of the things that Ayano talks about in the interview, so be sure to head on over to Geek Culture to read the rest of what he had to say.

Professional Wrestler Kenny Omega Heading to Community Effort Orlando 2016

Recent years have seen Community Effort Orlando morph from a tournament series with an inspiring backstory to one of the biggest events around. Part of their success comes from embracing aesthetics outside the world of fighting games and running with them, such as their numerous nods to professional wrestling.

Sure, they’ve given belts as prizes and held finals in a giant wrestling ring, but CEO 2016 is set to blow everything out of the water with a special guest you may have heard of once or twice before.

That’s right, Kenny Omega will be making the trip to Florida for a head-on collision with the fighting game community!

For those of you out of the loop, Omega is New Japan Pro Wrestling’s reigning IWGP Intercontinental Champion and leader of the ultra-popular Bullet Club stable. He’s previously contributed to a handful of Cross Counter episodes alongside Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez and Mike Ross, but will be taking his involvement in the scene a step further with this upcoming appearance.

(Oh, and, a couple of fun facts: he once performed a Final Atomic Buster on a blow-up doll and his list of finishers currently includes a move called the V-Trigger. Dude likes fighting games.)

If you want to check out Community Effort Orlando 2016 when it rolls around in June (and possibly meet Kenny in pools), be sure to visit their official website for more details.

Capcom to Implement Street Fighter V Battle Lounge Fixes Over the Weekend

Keeping with their promise to provide regular updates on fixed, Neidel “Haunts” Crisan recently dropped another Street Fighter V status report.

While much of it is the same as last time, it would appear the developers have corrected an issue that was keeping newer Fighter IDs from being found through searching. Now, it will take just 30 minutes for them to show up in the database.

Additionally, we now have a time table for when battle lounges will stabilize. Capcom plans to start rolling out fixes for online lobbies over this coming weekend, so stay tuned for more details.

If you continue to run into issues, be sure to drop a line to @SFVServer on Twitter to make sure they’re aware.
