Street Fighter V’s legacy controller is likely the most important piece of functionality for many members of the fighting game community as it removes additional purchases in order to continue competing with an older arcade stick or controller. Unfortunately, the Evo organizers have banned use of the feature at this year’s tournament.
For those out of the loop, Street Fighter V makes use of a driver developed by Lab Zero Games that makes PlayStation 3 peripherals work on the current generation console. While not perfect due to the necessity of having at least one DualShock 4 to get things activated properly, it years better than other titles that require a native controller for each legacy controller in use.
After spending time with Street Fighter V, organizer Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar announced earlier tonight that Evo 2016 will not allow the use of older arcade sticks and pads due to their inherent restrictions as well as unconfirmed reports that legacy controllers drop inputs.
Evo 2016 is scheduled for July 15-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada. More details can be found here.
