Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs Become Ninjas in Mortal Kombat X’s Cosplay Pack

There’s been a ton of Mortal Kombat X content announced over the past week or so, but the new ninja costumes worn by newcomers Cassie Cage and Jacqui Briggs in the game of the year trailer have yet to receive their time in the spotlight.

The next generation of Mortal Kombat fighters will be able to dress up as Lin Kuei and Shirai Ryu ninjas thanks to the upcoming Cosplay Pack. Like other skins, this doesn’t really change how they’ll play, but it is a fun piece of fanservice that sees two eras combine into one.

Mortal Kombat XL, Kombat Pack 2, the Cosplay Pack, and more will be available on March 1. Preorders are now open.

Pokkén Tournament’s Controller Comes Saddled with Some Awkward Restrictions

Although Pokkén Tournament represents a dream come true for folks eagerly awaiting a Pokémon fighting game, new specifications confirmed for the official controller make the dream a bit more awkward than is probably necessary.

According to its Nintendo UK store listing, the arcade-inspired peripheral won’t be available to the first player in multiplayer matches, who will instead have to make due with the unwieldy Wii U gamepad. This leads us to believe that, much like other games before it, Pokkén Tournament also won’t support the unique controller in single-player modes.

Furthermore, those of you looking to grab the Pokkén Tournament pad should take note that it won’t be compatible with other titles.

Pokkén Tournament is set to launch worldwide on March 18. The controller will be available the same day for $24.99 / £19.99 / ¥3,480.

Street Fighter V’s Latest Beta Changes Have Been Datamined

As expected from a game in beta, Street Fighter V has received a number of balance changes each time it was made playable. Now, with a final beta phase coming this weekend, many players are likely wondering how the game has changed since the last beta phase in December.

Luckily for us, Shoryuken regular Eternal, who many may recognize as helping run our wiki, has been able to datamine adjustments made in the latest beta patch. While these updates were pushed for the recent “tech test“, they also include changes for characters who weren’t playable in that test, indicating that they may also be for this weekend’s beta.

As for the changes themselves, they mostly represent fine tuning of the game’s cast, with changes to frame data, hitboxes, and damage. However, there are some pretty interesting trends, such as an overall damage and stun buff to throws as well as lots of damage buffs all around.

Those interested can check out Eternal’s forum post for the list of discovered changes. Take note, however, that all of these changes have yet to be confirmed.

Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- on PC Receives Third-Party Hitbox Display Program

If there’s one feature that most fighting games tend to lack, it’s the ability to display hitboxes in training mode. While some have begun to implement these tools, it’s not something you tend to see on a regular basis.

That said, having these games released on PC has allowed modders to developer hitbox viewers of their own, the most recent of which arrived this weekend for Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-.

Developed by Altimor, the viewer is less of a mod and more of a separate program that runs alongside the game, injecting code to make the hitboxes viewable. This means that the Guilty Gear itself isn’t touched and runs normally both online and off.

Those interested in trying this out can grab the viewer over at Dustloop, and examples of the program in action have been compiled on Hardedge. Take not that there are a few lingering issues, such as projectiles not having visible hitboxes, but it’s likely we’ll see updates in the future.

Capcom Drops Details on Street Fighter V’s Story Mode, Final Beta

While we’ve come to know a fair bit about Street Fighter V thanks to the beta phases, one thing we haven’t heard much about is the game’s story.

In a recent post on Capcom-Unity, associate producer Peter “Combofiend” Rosas explains that there are two main components to Street Fighter V’s story mode. First, each character will have their own storyline that will be told with the help of illustrations by none other than famed Capcom artist Bengus.

Street Fighter V will also have what Capcom is calling a Cinematic Story Expansion, which will be added to the game via free update this June. A series first, this mode will tell an overall narrative, which takes place between Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III, through rendered cut scenes.

You can catch a brief glimpse of this story in the trailer and screenshots below.

Last, but definitely not least, Capcom will be holding one final beta test, starting on January 30 at 12:01 AM PST (8:01 AM GMT) and ending on January 31 at 7 PM PST (February 1 at 3 AM GMT). This will be open to anyone who participated in previous testing phases as well as those who pre-order before those dates.
