Rukunetsu Remixes Street Fighter II’s Classic Character Select Theme for Street Fighter V

Arguably one of the most iconic piece of music in the entire Street Fighter canon, Yoko Shimomura’s Street Fighter II character select theme is one of the first pieces of music that many people heard back in the day, forever etching it the hearts and minds of fans.

Rukunetsu is one of those fans who remembers this theme fondly and, as a tribute, he’s created this new remix that tries to update it to fit the style of the upcoming Street Fighter V. While the remix might lack the guitar heavy riffs of the actual Street Fighter V select theme (since it still samples the original), it does add enough new elements that make it feel as if it would work in Capcom’s next fighter.

For those interested in listening to the remix, you can check it out below or on Soundcloud.

Kombo Klash Heads to Japan as a Killer Instinct World Cup Qualifier

Few competitive Killer Instinct regions come to mind outside of the United States. For whatever reason, it hasn’t gained the same foothold elsewhere, but that hasn’t stopped small pockets of the world from developing their scene with the release of the title’s latest installment on Xbox One.

One such pocket is Japan. Renowned for their skill in pretty much any fighting game you can think of, Japanese competitors have begun to spring up, bringing new ideas and techniques to the table with them. Names like Domi, who was the only non-American to qualify for Evo 2015’s top eight bracket thanks to his surprising Cinder play, and OGTY, translating his success in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, have proven that they deserve to be counted among the world’s best.

Fortunately, Ultra Arcade has recognized their talent, and will be providing Japan with their very own Killer Instinct World Cup qualifier in Kombo Klash Japan, scheduled for later this month.

Ultra Arcade’s Killer Instinct World Cup is an answer to the Capcom Pro Tour, and its organizers are hoping to do for Killer Instinct what Capcom Cup did for Street Fighter. By holding qualifiers, they are ensuring that they bring together the best players they can find, as well as making sure the entire community is represented.

As of this writing, TSC|CDjr, UA|Bass, UA|MyGod88, UA|Paul B, and MOR|Rico Suave have qualified for the finals, a fitting testament to the level of competition this event is sure to provide.

Kombo Klash Japan is scheduled for October 24-25. More details on this qualifier and the overall tour can be found here.

Them’s Fightin’ Herds Approved by Steam Greenlight

Ever since opening their Indiegogo campaign last month, the folks behind Them’s Fightin’ Herds have had a whirlwind of success. The crowdfunding efforts have raised over $200,000 for their project so far–putting them well on their way towards the $436,000 goal–and now they have been approved by Steam’s Greenlight program.

What this means, in short, is that enough interest was shown in the title that Mane6 will be granted the right to publish on the world’s largest digital games platform, a huge step in getting Them’s Fightin’ Herds noticed by the wider gaming community. Additionally, previous and future backers who contribute at least $40 to the project will now be granted access to the closed beta when it goes live.

Since the last time we checked in on them, Mane6 has also added a number of stretch goals, including Mac and Linux ports, a seventh launch character (a goat!), and more. Be sure to check out Indiegogo for more details, and tune into their special broadcast on Twitch later today for a first look at Oleander the Unicorn and Paprika the Alpaca.

Holy Order Sol Currently Tops Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Character Vote

After a little over a week of voting in Japanese arcades, we’ve been provided an early picture of how the Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- character vote is shaping up by a recent Arc System Works broadcast.

For those out of the loop, the developers have asked players to vote which character they would want to see join the title’s playable roster, out of a potential group of sixteen. These fighters range from familiar faces to obscure figures even hardcore Guilty Gear fans may not be aware of.

At the midway point, there are four clear contenders for the coveted position. Holy Order Sol tops out the voting with a slight lead over second-place finisher Dizzy, both of which are closely followed by Bridget and Baiken. The latter proved to be popular enough to handily take the top spot in our own unofficial poll, but it appears as if taste in Japan is a bit different than that of our readers.

But after that, vote totals begin to spiral downward at a harsh pace. While Anji Mito was able to secure over 6000 votes, Testament, Robo-Ky, and surprise placer Izuna barely make it into the top eight. Things get downright tragic for Kliff Undersn fans, as their character brings up the rear with a measly 290 votes, the only entry unable to crack 1000.

We’ve gone ahead and transcribed the information in the image above into a handy list, complete with some rough percentages.

1. Holy Order Sol – 9197 votes (14.1%)
2. Dizzy – 9052 votes (13.8%)
3. Bridget – 8826 votes (13.5%)
4. Baiken – 8618 votes (13.2%)
5. Anji Mito – 6280 votes (10.0%)
6. Testament – 4215 votes (6.4%)
7. Robo-Ky – 3375 votes (5.2%)
8. Izuna – 2773 votes (4.2%)

9. A.B.A – 2448 votes (3.7%)
10. Zappa – 2094 votes (3.2%)
11. Raven – 2013 votes (3.1%)
12. Valentine – 1996 votes (3.1%)
13. Fanny – 1614 votes (2.5%)
14. Dr. Paradigm – 1472 votes (2.3%)
15. Justice – 1116 votes (1.7%)
16. Kliff Undersn – 290 votes (0.4%)

Let us know what you think of these early results, and stay tuned for the final tally on October 16.

Additional Character and Stage Placeholders Found in Super Smash Bros. After Latest Patch

While the latest installment of the Super Smash Bros. series continues to be updated with balance patches by Nintendo, the only content that’s been released since then focuses on stages and cosmetic items. But that may be changing soon if what some intrepid data miners have found is correct.

Buried within the game’s code following the recent ver.1.1.1 patch are placeholders for what seem to be three new characters and three new stages. Shiny Quagsire has shared the following images of the code.

Interestingly enough, all the the placeholders are named Mario. This may likely be a reaction to how Ryu and Roy were leaked in an update last April. This way, even if people discover that there are new characters coming to the game, their identities are kept secret until Nintendo decides to announce them.

Meanwhile, the stages are the slots labelled “Tikibuzz&#8221$$ take note that while there seem to be six slots, these are divided between the normal and omega versions of the stages. These three stages likely represent stages for each of the three new characters.

Take note that this is all speculation on part of the fans. Nintendo still has the final say on whether or not these do materialize into actual characters and stages in the game. With the fan ballot ending tomorrow, it’s likely we’ll have more information sooner rather than later, so stay tuned.
