A.B.A? Zappa? Fanny?! Arc System Works Reveals Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR- Character Vote Ballot

In addition to introducing Johnny and newcomer Jack-O, Arc System Works is allowing fans to vote on which classic characters they would like to see appear in Guilty Gear Xrd -REVELATOR-. Though its restricted to those who actually have a chance to play the updated title (i.e. folks in Japan), the mere fact the developers are taking in such feedback is an exciting proposition for the community as a whole.

According to new details, this fan vote will not include every character in the Guilty Gear universe, instead providing a varied ballot of cast members from numerous games in the series. These sixteen fighters (and the titles they debuted in) are as follows:

  • A.B.A (Guilty Gear XX Isuka)
  • Izuna (Guilty Gear 2: Overture)
  • Valentine (Guilty Gear 2: Overture)
  • Kliff Undersn (Guilty Gear)
  • Zappa (Guilty Gear XX)
  • Justice (Guilty Gear)
  • Holy Order Sol (Guilty Gear XX Slash)
  • Dizzy (Guilty Gear X)
  • Testament (Guilty Gear)
  • Dr. Paradigm (Guilty Gear 2: Overture)
  • Baiken (Guilty Gear)
  • Fanny (Guilty Gear Petit)
  • Bridget (Guilty Gear XX)
  • Anji Mito (Guilty Gear X)
  • Raven (Guilty Gear 2: Overture)
  • Robo-Ky (Guilty Gear XX #Reload)

Voting will begin sometime in late September, so stay tuned for more details.

Street Fighter V’s Worldwide Beta Returns on August 28

With data gathered from the trio of recent stress tests, Capcom is set to reopen Street Fighter V’s worldwide beta this Friday. This news comes courtesy of associate producer Peter “Combofiend” Rosas, who mentions they received “promising results” from the regional sessions.

Street Fighter V’s beta will return on August 28 at 4 PM PDT (12 AM BST, 8:00 AM JST on August 29) and continue through September 2. “Outside of the servers being shut down for periodic maintenance, we expect everything to run continuously throughout the entire five day beta period,” Rosas explained.

That said, Rosas also mentions that players may occasionally run into connectivity issues, though that’s just the nature of the beast. Be sure to keep an eye on @SFVServer during the beta for updates.

Kazunoko is a Free Agent Again

After raising questions about its future earlier this month, former Zeveron CEO Jeff Suddarth has communicated to The Daily Dot that the competitive gaming organization is no more.

While the company’s Heroes of the Storm team had already jumped ship by the time the story broke, Suddarth was committed to keeping recent fighting game acquisition Ryota “Kazunoko” Inoue on the roster, and the two agreed to continue working together should Suddarth secure the funds owed to Kazunoko.

With this news, one can assume those plans fell through, leaving the Japanese player with nothing to show from his time with Zeveron except for a spiffy uniform.

Kazunoko is, without a doubt, one of the hottest free agents in the fighting game community today. He currently sits at eighth in our Ultra Street Fighter IV rankings, and has already secured a spot in this year’s Capcom Cup thanks to his first place finish at Community Effort Orlando 2015. If one thing is for sure at the end of this mess, it’s that Kazunoko will continue to compete–and likely, continue to win–with or without “support” from organizations like Zeveron.

When’s Marvel? It Could Be at Tomorrow’s Next Level Battle Circuit

In spite of recent turmoil, Brookly-based Next Level Arcade is entertaining the possibility of expanding its game lineup for tomorrow’s Battle Circuit.

Earlier today, they announced on their Facebook page that the weekly tournament series will potentially host an Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 bracket. Whether or not the three-on-three fighter makes its way on to the game lineup depends entirely on player turnout.

This is one of those unique situations where showing up to a tournament means more than ever. So if you’re itching to test out some new tech or just want to bolster the pool of players present representing their game of choice, be sure to head out to Next Level Arcade tomorrow at 7 PM EDT.

Chel, Talos, and Vlad See Adjustments in Latest Rising Thunder Alpha Update

Ever since their alpha build went public, the Rising Thunder team has been pushing out a constant stream of patches to address bugs, add new content, and more. Today, the early access title has received another update, this one focusing a bit more on characters than its predecessors.

Among the most prominent are the handful of changes applied to Chel. She’s received a new variant, but the lowering of her damage and range across numerous moves applies a significant nerf while still keeping her core gameplay intact. Other than that, Talos was also given an additional special move and Vlad has seen some corrections made as well.

Check out the full list of changes below and let us know what you think.

Rising Thunder Patch Notes, Build 1312

Chel

  • New S3 variant! Soaring Wind opens up new juggle opportunities, especially after Chel’s Crush Breeze.
  • Slightly reduced horizontal ranges of c.H, Crush Breeze, and Spiral Eclipse.
  • Slightly lowered damage inflicted by far s.H, F+H, Crush Breeze, Dancing Wind, and Stinging Wind.
  • Increased Spiral Eclipse recovery by 2 frames.
  • Expanded F+M hurt-boxes downward just enough to get hit by common mid-height attacks.
  • Crush Breeze and Spiral Eclipse now inflict reduced damage and stun after their 3rd active frames.
  • Simplified Night Sun cooldowns to 1.5 seconds across all speeds (previously 1 second for fast version, 1.25 for medium, and 1.5 for slow).

These updates are intended to soften Chel’s effectiveness at the beginner level, with relatively minimal impact on her play style at higher tiers. Her core gameplan should remain mostly unchanged. She just needs a few more clean hits to win!

Talos

  • New S2 variant! Titan Wreck becomes armored immediately, but cannot be charged or kinetic-canceled like Titan Smash.
  • Standardized Titan Smash reactions for all characters, so follow-up juggles should behave more consistently.
  • Pose and camera movement improvements for Talos’ Titan Smash, along with slightly quicker recovery after a successful grab.

Vlad

  • Air Sputnik Missile and Revolutionary Rocket now deal block damage properly.
  • Revolutionary Rocket no longer pushes Vlad away from cornered blocking opponents.
  • Air Revolutionary Rocket no longer fails to spawn the target when landing just before it fires.
  • Zib got fleas.

Bug Fixes

  • Characters land on the correct side of the opponent more consistently after cross-ups.
  • Edge’s Overdrive no longer resets the combo count if it connects on the frame the victim hits the ground.
  • Standardized Dauntless’ reaction to her own forward throw, so she no longer has unusual combos limited to mirror matches only.

Visual Improvements

  • Pose improvements for Talos’ Overdrive startup.
  • Pose improvements for Dauntless’ landing roll.
  • Edge upgraded his sword’s tech.

Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION’s Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba Swap Roles This Fall

Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION is set to swap representatives from The Irregular at Magic High School from support to playable and vice versa sometime in fall. This means that Tatsuya Shiba, who was once relegated to the assist roster, will be called up to the big leagues, and his sister Miyuki Shiba will be available in a secondary role. But don’t worry if you were used to utilizing these characters in their original positions, as their initial incarnations will be kept intact.

While pretty cool when taken by itself, this decision by the developers opens up a wide array of questions and possibilities. Will the rest of the roster receive opposite versions of themselves? I have to admit, the idea of Durarara!!’s Celty Sturleson or Accel World’s Haruyuki Arita becoming part of the main roster is rather appealing, so let’s hope Sega has bigger plans in store for this swap.

Dengeki Bunko FIGHTING CLIMAX IGNITION originally launched in arcades on July 28. A console port has yet to be announced.

Dead or Alive 5 Last Round Newcomer Should Arrive in March 2016

Apart from the high-level competition, DEAD OR ALIVE Festival included some exciting news concerning upcoming content for Dead or Alive 5 Last Round. The developers are currently at work putting together a new stage and costumes, but the biggest announcement was certainly their teasing of yet another character. Unlike past additions, this character seems to be entirely new to the Dead or Alive universe.

While they previously mentioned that all this content will arrive in Last Round sometime in spring 2016, a recent Famitsu interview with producer Yosuke Hayashi has narrowed that timeframe down a bit. “I can’t give any details, but for the new character we’re introducing, their creation has already been set. We think we can debut them around March 2016, so please enjoy the wait,” Hayashi expalined. “All I can tell you is that we’ve never gone in this direction with a character.”

As the interview originally concerned Team NINJA’s work on Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, Famitsu would go on to ask if the new character would appear in that title, possibly fishing for information on their gender. Hayashi was obviously quiet on the subject, but did confide that they would not appear in other property.

Liam Smith to fight replacement opponent John Thompson for the vacant WBO light-middleweight title

Liam Smith (20-0-1, 10 KOs) will now face American John Thompson (17-1, 6 KOs) for the vacant WBO light middleweight title on October 10 in Manchester, after the withdrawal of original opponent Michel Soro.
The Liverpool fighter was initially supposed to be fighting Frenchman Soro, for the belt that was stripped from American Demetrius Andrade for inactivity, but due to an internal issue between Soro and his promoters Top Rank, Smith will now take on Thomson, who is coming off the most notable…
