Brook outguns Gavin, Joshua demolishes Johnson, Linares halts Mitchell, Selby dethrones Gradovich

IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (35-0, 24 KOs) stopped challenger Frankie Gavin (22-2, 13 KOs) in the 6th round on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London.
Unbeaten Brook completely dominated fellow Brit Gavin before punishing his opponent on the ropes with hard punches to force the referee to end the bout.
The champion took charge from the start with his jabs and combinations. Brook continued backing Gavin up onto the ropes in the third round with hard shots. But the challenger kept in…

Ultra Street Fighter IV at Evo 2015 Officially Returns to Xbox 360

evo-2015-logo-622-2-crop

After a less than optimal Ultra Street Fighter IV launch on PlayStation 4 earlier this week, fans were worried about what this meant for competition on the Capcom Pro Tour, namely at Evo 2015 and Community Effort Orlando 2015. Fortunately, Capcom stepped forward and removed the aforementioned event’s obligations to run their brackets through the lackluster port, stating that tournaments were now free to revert back to their region’s standard platform.

While hints of a change were made before this announcement, Evo organizer Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar came out today to officially announce that Ultra Street Fighter IV competition at this year’s event will return to Xbox 360. When asked if another decision would be made should the PlayStation 4 version be optimized, he confirmed that players can expect no further platform changes.

As the largest fighting game tournament in the world, Evo’s return to Xbox 360, the previously recognized community standard, should definitely ease some of the worries competitors had as we near the event. With an extra $50,000 and the bundle of ranking points courtesy of Capcom Pro Tour, it’s great to see this rather important obstacle overcome.

GODSGARDEN #10 Coming in June, Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- and BlazBlue: Chronophantasma EXTEND Chosen as Main Titles

godsgarden-10

It’s been around a year and a half since GODSGARDEN last hosted a numbered entry in its eponymous tournament series. You might have forgotten the series even existed, but rest assured, GODSGARDEN is still alive and, for the first time, will feature not just one main event, but two!

Yesterday on GODSGARDEN’s weekly KaoTV! broadcast, co-founder and former Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike legend Soushihan KSK announced GODSGARDEN #10, with Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- and BlazBlue: Chronophantasma EXTEND as the main titles. It’s not just coincidence that two Arc System Works titles were selected for competition, as GODS#10 will serve as a ARC REVOLUTION CUP 2015 qualifier, giving the champions of each game a spot in Arc’s official tournament on August 15.

As is tradition with the GODSGARDEN series, the player fan vote will be making its return. The top two vote receivers for each title will be allowed to skip the preliminary rounds and move straight to the eight-player finals tournament bracket. Details for the vote are still being set, but keep an eye out in the near future for the start of the voting period.

GODSGARDEN #10 is scheduled for June 27 and 28 at the Akihabara Cafe&Bar SIXTEEN in Tokyo.

Khan outpoints Algieri in hard-fought win

Two-time world champion Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) defeated American Chris Algieri (20-2, 8 KOs) by unanimous decision on Friday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The Brit fighter had to battle hard to win the welterweight contest by scores of 115-113, 117-111 and 117-111.
Khan controlled the opener with movement while landing some solid punches, but Algieri landed a right hand that stopped him in his tracks in the final seconds of the round.
In the second round, former WBO…

Evolve or Die with Killer Instinct’s Latest Balance Changes and Bug Fixes

ARIA isn’t the only thing Killer Instinct players will have to look out for today, as the folks at Iron Galaxy Studios have once again released a patch full of gameplay adjustments with the new playable character.

This time around, a fair majority of the patch has been dedicated to correcting unintended issues, but there are a few balance changes as well. The previous roster addition has also seen the most tweaking, so Cinder players in particular will want to play close attention.

System Changes

  • Fixed a bug that could cause characters to get caught in the air for a moment if their opponent instinct canceled a successful air counter breaker.
  • Fixed a bug preventing air techout from occurring when you try to counter breaker from some grounded launcher attacks. In a few other situations, the counter breaker won’t cause tech out, but you can quick rise and still punish it so it isn’t safe. In a future patch we will make this quick rise automatic if the opponent performed a counter breaker to make sure you don’t miss your punish window.

ki-xb1-sabrewulf-stage-622-crop

Sabrewulf

  • Fixed a bug that caused an Auto Double to come out instead of an Ender when trying to trigger Eclipse Ender with Light or Medium buttons.

ki-xb1-glacius-classic-stage-622-crop

Glacius

  • Fixed a bug preventing Glacius from getting Medium manuals after a Medium Puddle Punch linker.
  • Fixed a bug that let Cinder keep his Pyrobombs after being thrown by Glacius.

ki-xb1-orchid-stage-622-crop-flip

Orchid

  • Possible fix for a bug that caused Orchid Auto Doubles to be blocked if performed late after a very low to the ground Air Throw.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Orchid to perform opener and linker cancels even if the opponent’s current hitstun was inflicted by a projectile (grenade or instinct firecat) and not her current move. This bug effects many characters separately, and many S2 characters had this fixed individually. Orchid is fixed now, and this should hopefully prevent blocked doubles and linkers after a grenade or firecat hits.

ki-xb1-tjcombo-stage-622-crop

TJ Combo

  • Fixed a bug that could cause another hit of Auto Barrage to come out instead of the Auto Barrage Ender if you input the final button too quickly.
  • Put in a possible fix for an issue where TJ could perform opener cancels after a whiffed Tremor, which could potentially lock the opponent up.
  • Fixed a bug preventing TJ from buffering moves during Forward Dash.

ki-xb1-maya-stage-622-crop

Maya

  • Fixed an issue in Practice Mode where Maya’s Daggers were not respawning in her hands after resetting positions.

ki-xb1-kanra-stage-622-crop-flip

Kan-Ra

  • Duration of the free Shadow Swarm you spawn during your Swarm ender now scales with ender level, at 3, 4, 5, or 6 seconds.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Spikes from destroying themselves if Kan-Ra got hit out of the summoning motion.
  • Fixed a bug causing the opponent to gain no meter when being hit by or blocking Shadow Swarm.
  • Fixed a bug causing Shadow Clutch to not scale after a wall splat as part of a combo.

ki-xb1-riptor-stage-622-crop

Riptor

  • Fixed a bug causing Medium Auto Double to come out on accident if you held it for the Heavy Shoulder Charge linker.
  • Fixed a bug preventing you from getting Throw inputs out if pressed LP before LK.
  • Fixed a bug preventing Riptor’s Wall Splat Enders for blowing out if you did a 2nd Wall Splat in the same combo.
  • Fixed a bug that made Air Shadow Tail Flip breakable as an opener.

ki-xb1-omen-stage-622-crop-flip

Omen

  • Omen can now air dash between rounds.
  • Fixed a bug preventing Omen from getting a manual after a Light Demon Slide linker.
  • Fixed a bug that made his F+HP Furious Swipes command normal fans the flames for the Kick buttons.

ki-xb1-aganos-stage-622-crop-flip

Aganos

  • Fixed a bug causing the Lv3 Payload Ender to drop from specific positions.
  • Fixed a bug preventing Aganos from buffering moves during Forward Dash.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause a whiffed Shadow Natural Disaster to hit very late and trigger another full 5 hits of rolling.
  • Fixed a bug that let Aganos counterbreaker attempt during Super Freeze before Shadow Natural Disaster.
  • Fixed a bug that let the Hold and Charged Up portions of Shadow Natural Disaster to auto correct to face the opponent.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause Payload ender to not combo.

ki-xb1-hisako-stage-622-crop-flip

Hisako

  • Reduced active frames on Far Standing Heavy Kick so it isn’t hitting opponents while she is pulling it back toward herself.
  • Hisako’s Crouch Blocking hurtboxes are a hair taller, so a few moves that whiffed her when crouch blocking before will no longer do so. Sorry, no more ducking Glacius Lance.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Hisako from doing an Ultra immediately after a Vengeance counter vs an airborne opponent.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed Hisako to tech grab attempts during the recovery of Shadow Influence.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the opponent’s character to flip if they were thrown while facing away from Hisako.

ki-xb1-cinder-stage-622-crop

Cinder

  • Ensured that both Burnout Enders push the opponent away the same amount.
  • Made it so that if you piano a Shadow move it wont take your Fired Up buff away.
  • If you are too far away to counterbreak attempt during Shadow Inferno, your opponent will treat the move as a projectile and will be unable to break. This fixes an issue where the opponent could break but Cinder could not counterbreak.
  • Burnout durations changed to Lv1 – 3 sec, Lv2 – 4.5 sec, Lv3 – 6 sec, Lv4 – 7.5 sec.
  • Burnout VFX sizes adjusted so that they never get too small to see.
  • Third Degree Light Punch Final hit is now +2 on block instead of +3.
  • Heavy Fission starts up 6 frame later than before. These two changes prevent a very long blockstring from occurring in the corner.
  • Air Combo Breaker animation changed to look like it hits the opponent in the right direction.
  • Fixed a bug preventing Shadow Fission from destroying itself properly when using an Ender or activating Instinct.
  • Fixed some negative edge issues on his special moves.
  • Fixed a bug causing Shadow Ender Fire Flash to be breakable even when Opener->Ender didn’t occur.
  • Auto Doubles after Trailblazer attacks now have a lower priority than the 2nd Trailblazer change of direction. If you want an Auto Double, leave the stick/d-pad in the neutral position and you’ll get it. If you hold a direction and hit a kick, you’ll get the 2nd Trailblazer as expected.
  • Fixed a bug that made the hitbox for Fission stay around even if the opponent used a combo breaker, which got them hit.

Combo Breaker Broadcasters to Restream Tournament Footage Affected by Internet Outages

combobreaker-skyline-edit

Though a great tournament by all on-site accounts, Combo Breaker 2015 was plagued with a variety of internet issues this past weekend, which kept a good chunk of competition from being broadcast to people at home. Among the games affected by this downtime were Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, King of Fighters XIII, Skullgirls Encore, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, and more.

To correct this problem and give folks who weren’t able to make it out the chance to see the final stages of competition in these titles, both Spooky and Callisto are prepared to broadcast recorded footage this weekend.

Below, you’ll find both streams as well as their individual schedules, so be sure to check back to catch anything you might be interested in. We’ll be sending periodic updates through Twitter as well.

Kazumi Mishima is Tekken 7’s Next Playable Character

After first appearing in the title exclusively as a boss character, Kazumi Mishima will be joining Tekken 7’s main roster in the near future.

Like previous cast reveals, the folks over at Bandai Namco have released a brand new trailer detailing what the Mishima matriarch brings to the table. She’s thankfully kept her tiger assists in the transition from boss to playable character, allowing for some amazing gameplay footage. Any fighter that uses a literal tiger uppercut is alright in my book.

No word has been shared as to when we’ll see Kazumi officially join Tekken 7, but with the roll Bandai Namco’s been on for the past months, players shouldn’t have to wait long.

Sony Expecting Ultra Street Fighter IV’s First PlayStation 4 Patch Submission Tomorrow

usfiv-yangdeejay-622-crop

After Ultra Street Fighter IV on PlayStation 4 saw one of the worst fighting game launches in recent memory (well, apart from Mortal Kombat X’s PC release, obviously) progress has been made on a fix according to Sony’s director of third-party production Gio Corsi.

“First patch being submitted tomorrow,” Corsi mentioned in a tweet earlier today. “Will test and update you all with improvements.”

This progress report comes just a day after a previous acknowledgement of the issues plaguing the port from Corsi as well as a message from Capcom themselves, who apparently had very little to do with its development but are now stepping in to assist in correcting the numerous issues.

At this point in time, little can be surmised as to what is actually corrected, when players will see it released, and how many patches are needed to bring the title up to speed, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. Stay tuned for more details.

mkx-tanya-622-crop

With the surprise announcement that Tanya will be joining the Mortal Kombat X cast next Tuesday, June 2, many of us were quick to speculate what kind of gameplay the returning character has in store. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait very long.

The day before, NetherRealm Studios plans to show Tanya off live during another Kombat Kast. These streams have regularly showcased the game’s mechanics and character attributes both before and after launch, so this should be a fantastic way to learn a bit about the crafty Edenian before her release.

Kombat Kast will be live on Monday, June 1, at 1 PM PDT, 4 PM EDT; be sure to tune into Twitch and catch it all live.
