YouTube Launches Early Preview of 60fps Streaming Capabilities

youtube-logo-622-crop

There’s probably only one name that comes to mind when you think of streaming video: Twitch. Despite efforts by other organizations to break into the business, they are rarely able to compete with the remnants of Justin.tv, and this was made all the harder thanks to their recent acquisition by Amazon, which expanded Twitch’s horizons and infused them with a ton of extra cash.

Google-owned YouTube, which was rumored to be in the market to purchase Twitch before the Amazon news was confirmed, has had its own streaming service available since December 2013, but it has more often been used as a way for fans to check out live events instead of watch their favorite games being played.

In a bid to boost their platform’s reputation, YouTube announced earlier this morning that their broadcasting tools now support 60 frames-per-second streaming. The upgrade is currently only available in browsers that support HTML5, fortunately expanding past the Chrome-exclusive feature for their regular video player.

As of now, this is just a preview of these new capabilities, though YouTube’s reaching out to Elgato and XSplit hints that they are poised to become an even bigger player in the broadcasting game. Sure, this is a far cry from the hilarious emotes Twitch users love, but it’s an important early step to boosting their reputation in the streaming market.

For the sake of diversity, let’s hope it works.

Mortal Kombat X Receives Two Hotfixes in One Day

mkx-ermac-fatality-622-crop

Mortal Kombat X received a couple of hotfixes in quick succession today. While they aren’t meant to bring big balance changes to the cast, they do address a few prevalent bugs.

First up, the meter drain glitch for Ermac’s Master of Souls variation is no more, as his Soul Trap no longer drains meter. Secondly, the damage on Vicious Ferra/Torr’s Boss Toss now scales properly. And finally, Kenjutsu Kenshi will now autoface correctly after doing his Head Splitter and Leaping Sword command normals.

The second hotfix, however, only touches on one problem. Apparently, the game would lock up when one of Spec Ops Cassie’s target painted rockets an ice clone created by Grandmaster Sub-Zero, but that’s since been corrected.

Of course, this isn’t the end of Mortal Kombat X’s updates. As was previously reported, NetherRealm Studios’ Paulo Garcia has stated that Kung Lao’s quick meter build glitch will be adjusted in a future patch.

Mortal Kombat X Brazil Costume Pack Announced, Kold War Skins Available Now

It’s a big day for Mortal Kombat X fans looking to deck their characters out in only the finest of digital duds before taking to Outworld to break some skulls. Destructoid reported earlier today that players can expect to see a Brazil-themed costume pack–yes, you read that correctly–hitting digital shelves at some point in the future. While we don’t have any exact details on the price point or release date, we do know that they look, well, just check them out for yourselves:

MKX Brazil

But that isn’t the only costume-related news for the newest NetherRealm Studios offering. Chances are you’ve seen Scorpion’s Kold War skin at some point or another while facing off against foes in online battles–you may even have grabbed it for yourself as a GameStop exclusive when the title hit the shelves. But as of today, the Shirai Ryu’s kunai-toting ninja isn’t the only member of the cast with an outfit that would make Zangief proud, as Sub-Zero, Sonya and Kano join the party.

In spite of the delays that the most recent patch has seen with regard to coming to systems other than the PlayStation 4, you can currently pick up this downloadable content on your console (or PC) of choice for $3.99 by following the appropriate links below. Be sure to check out the release trailer for the skins as well.
