Maximilian discusses Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite’s recent patch and what it could mean for the future

Is a new age of heroes on the horizon, or is this just the final nail in the coffin?

Last Tuesday, following months of complete radio silence from both companies, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite received its first patch since last January, which curiously weighed in at a whopping 16GB for the Xbox One version, 10GB for Steam, and only 421MB for PlayStation 4. This brings the game up to version 1.07.

The Japanese MVC:I website simply noted that “some system changes were made,” while making sure to emphasize that it was nothing that would alter the game’s current balance. There were also a series of release candidate branches, with the first happening 29 days ago, that have now been made public, indicating that some form of development has been happening with the title.

Taking all of that into account, Maximilian has made a recent video discussing what exactly this updates means for the game, based on the information that we have, and what it could mean for the future of the franchise. Most notably, the Denuvo digital rights management (DRM) anti-piracy software — that is used to encrypt the code of Unreal Engine 4 titles like Tekken 7, Injustice 2, and Dragon Ball FighterZ, in order to make them more difficult to crack and/or pirate — has been completely removed. (The previous “Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Anti-tamper” notice has also been completely removed from the title’s Steam page.) This appears to have made booting and loading times faster across the entire trio of platforms, though there’s a chance it could be a placebo effect.

You can hear more about why Capcom may no longer need anti-piracy software for the game, how its removal on PC could have a trickle-down effect to the console versions, as well as Max’s personal hopes and predictions for Infinite’s future below.

Boxer-King teaches proper defense against Dragunov’s Running 2 in Tekken 7

Dragunov is one of Tekken 7’s strongest and, in many players eyes, most frustrating characters. With high juggle damage and a lean, versatile move-set, there’s little Dragunov can’t do. And while he is strong on his own, most of his move-list is anchored around the strength of one all-important move- While Running 2.

To properly defend yourself against this move, you need to understand how to step around it at various ranges, and you need to know  what to do if you’re forced to block it — both of which are valuable lessons taught in today’s BoxeR-King tutorial video.

Blade Strangers latest trailer focuses on Cave Story+’s Curly Brace

Who doesn’t like robot girls with machine guns?

Nicalis has released yet another character trailer for their upcoming crossover fighter Blade Strangers —This time, the focus is on Curly Brace from Cave Story+.

Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Curly Brace in Blade Strangers — she was among the first announced characters in the game. However, this is the first time she’s had a proper trailer focusing just on her.

As the trailer below demonstrates, Curly fights with her machine gun and various projectiles to zone her opponent and set up offense.

With that, there’s only 5 more characters that have yet to receive dedicated trailers: Solange, Ali, Master T, Emiko, and Lina.

Blade Strangers launches on PlayStation 4, PC, and Switch this summer.

Datamined voice clips reveal special intros with unrevealed DLC characters in BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle

Data-mining of the Nintendo Switch version of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle’s recently-completed online beta has unearthed a lot about the upcoming tag-team title. From the nine currently-unannounced DLC characters who will fill out the full 40 character roster, to a pair of potential guests from the Senran Kagura franchise.

But now we have new evidence that further points to the eventual inclusions of BlazBlue’s Nine The Phantom, Izayoi and Mai Natsume, Persona 4 Arena’s Mitsuru Kirijo, Akihiko Sanada and Labrys, as well as Under Night In-Birth’s Merkava, Yuzuriha Sougetsu and Mika Returna. The evidence? Data-mined audio clips of Ruby Rose, Linne and Yukiko Amagi reveal their portions of team-specific intros, outros and victory conversations with a variety of DLC fighters.

Additionally, Colors 14-16, which were not purchasable in the beta’s Color Shop, were found for Ruby, which AceKombat notes are shared palettes that will be available to the entire cast. There has also been a Boss theme found among the files, which carries an ominous tune that’s hopefully befitting to whatever over-the-top final enemy we’ll face in Episode and (perhaps) Survival Modes. You can see everything below:

BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle will be released on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Steam PC in Japan and Asia on Thursday, May 31st, with a North American release on those same platforms following on Tuesday, June 5th. A European release for PS4 and Switch has also been confirmed for Friday, June 22nd.

Scallywag 93 teaches how to punish hit-confirm strings in Tekken 7

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution for proper punishment in the Tekken series. In a game like Tekken 7 where most of the cast has close to 100 moves or more, you have to do the heavy lifting of investigating specific scenarios in each match-up in order to find out what your character can do on block, hit, and whiff.

This is especially true with hit confirmable strings, of which there are a number of in Tekken 7. If you don’t know how to properly punish these strings, you make life easy for your opponents — luckily, all the tools that Scallywag 93 has demonstrated in his past punishment tutorial videos come into play in today’s entry.

This definitive BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle video lists all the unique interactions and win quotes in the game

Fans have certainly been enjoying the unique interactions between the cast members of BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle. Whenever Arc System Works streams the game, numerous people in the chat always scream “DON’T SKIP THE INTROS!” While we’ve seen some compilations of this, rooflemonger filed a complete video showcasing all the unique intros, win poses, and victory screen quotes.

Most of us are familiar with the intros by now, especially the adorable Ruby and Ragna one. However, it’s harder to get the win poses. In order to hear the special lines of dialogue at the end, both character must be present on screen at the time of victory. And finally, the victory screen quotes appear at the results screen. Those are always unique, even if the pair doesn’t have an intro specific to them. The video starts with Ragna, who, of course, has a lot of pairings, and then goes to Ruby. Hyde and Makoto have quite a few as well.

Check them out below, and if you’re interested in the more practical side of things, look to our BBTAG tech roundup.

Gunvolt developer Inti Creates shows off 20 minutes of Blade Strangers footage on stream

After the surprise announcements of Shovel Knight, Gunvolt, and other crossover stars in Blade Strangers, Nicalis’s latest 2D fighter has become a hot topic for a lot of players — casual and FGC hardcore alike.

If you’re starved for another glimpse of Blade Strangers gameplay, the folks at Nintendo Everything got to try out a demo featuring several characters (but… mostly Gunvolt, as the stream was hosted by Azure Striker Gunvolt‘s developer, Inti Creates.)
