– Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire – Developer Playthrough Highlights

The latest Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire developer insights video has been published that takes a look at a number of cool gameplay features coming in the game when it is released on May 8th. You’ll see some pretty sweet looking skills including the placement of a bomb in a pickpocketing victim’s pocket & the explosive results.

Rock out to this combo music video for Menat, Dizzy, Nine, and Android 21

Throw down “to the beat of the rhythm of the night”

One particular sub-genre of combo videos is the “combo music video” where the creator does their best to make the combos on screen match the beat of a song being played. It’s an art that requires both impeccable timing as well as good video editing skills.

The latest creator to attempt one of these is Yi Xiao who started with what was supposed to be a combo video for Street Fighter V‘s Menat but ended up expanding it with more characters. Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2’s Dizzy, BlazBlue: Central Fiction’s Nine, and Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s Android 21 all join in on the combo music magic.

The video is set to the song 白い花 (Shiroihana) by Zone, from the soundtrack of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and features a number of editing tricks and transitions to do its best to match the song. Do they succeed in their effort? Check out the combo music video below to find out.

BornFree catches up with HookGangGawd at Super TSB to talk about Piccolo and all things Dragon Ball FighterZ

Some words on his game of choice from one of Dragon Ball FighterZ‘s rising stars!

DBFZ PiccoloNRG|HookGangGawd is rapidly becoming a household name in Dragon Ball FighterZ circles — while holding the top spot on the PSN online leaderboard, HookGangGawd is now far more than an online warrior. A regular second-place finisher to Echo Fox|Sonic Fox at NLBC, HookGangGawd is qualified for Summit of Power, and has rapidly gathered a strong following for his Dragon Ball FighterZ skills with his Piccolo-centered team.

In the interview, they discuss what HookGangGawd would like to see changed in DBFZ’s mechanics, the difficulty of running a team based around Piccolo (who is his favorite Dragon Ball Z character), and the differences between playing offline and in person.

BornFree interviews Dragon Ball FighterZ pro Echo Fox|dekillsage

dekillsage discusses his FGC past, present, and future after his win against Sonic Fox.

Jon “dekillsage” Coello remembers his first tournament — a Super Smash Bros. Brawl local — as his starting point in the FGC. He admits that he likely wouldn’t be in the FGC at all, frustrated by his skill level compared to his peers, were it not for a local player inviting him to play with them afterward. Those are humble beginnings for a player that would go on to be a Skullgirls Evo Champ and obtain a sponsorship from esports giants Echo Fox.

Given his recent victory over the nigh-invulnerable Sonic Fox in Dragon Ball FighterZ and his consistent tournament results, this interview with the FGC’s favorite interviewer, BornFree, is a must watch. Find out about dekillsage’s favorite games, his hopes for DBFZ’s incoming patch, his thoughts on the DLC leak, and more in the video above.

Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition — Basic Falke primer: General gameplan, combos, & more

Who is Falke?

Falke is the third DLC character for Season 3 of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. She was created to be an alternative clone body for M. Bison. She has the unique ability to infuse Psycho Power into objects and release it through them — mainly through her staff, which she has named “Harmony”.

General Gameplan

With long-reaching normals, a unique fireball game, and strong and reliable anti-airs, Falke is primarily a zoning character that hopes to keep her opponents in the mid-range, where she is at her strongest.

Pros

+ Requires no motions for her special moves (outside of her Critical Art)

+ Strong and reliable anti-airs (cr.HP, Psycho Schneide, air throw, etc.)

+ Reliable way of building V-meter outside of getting hit, because she can combo into V-Skill in many ways (Each V-Skill builds 1/3 of a bar of VT)

+ Multiple ways to change air trajectory (During jumps, she can D+MK, shoot an air fireball, or do a regular jump-in)

+ Has reliable counters to fireball characters (Her V-Skill nullifies one-hit projectiles and Psycho Kanonen goes under other fireballs)

Cons

– 950 HP/950 Stun

– No 3F Normal

– Her invincible reversal (EX Psycho Schneide) has 12F Startup (Slow and baitable)

– Slow movement options (Walk speed, Forward/Back dash)

– Her hit confirms require her to be fairly close to the opponent

Taki confirmed for SoulCalibur VI through early character reveal trailer

The veteran ninja returns to the Stage of History — a bit before schedule.

Bandai Namco looks like its gotten into the habit of releasing content a little early, because it looks like SoulCalibur VI just got the same treatment as Vegito. Taki — a returning fighter who has been a mainstay in the franchise until SoulCalibur V — has been announced for SoulCalibur VI with a mystical new look. The fighter now appears to be super-charged by magic kanji that glow before using her special attacks.

The trailer was released on the Japanese video sharing site Niconico, but was taken down shortly afterward. The folks at Avoiding the Puddle were able to capture the trailer, and have shared it online. Check out Taki’s new look and deadly acrobatics in her reveal trailer below!

Early Access indie platform fighter “Slap City” expanding with new content and a new character: Business Casual Man

An in-development indie with its own unique sense of style.

slap city logo

One of the perhaps least-known indie platform fighters to follow in the wake of the Super Smash Bros. franchise is Slap City from Swedish game studio Ludosity, currently available on Steam Early Access. From the Early Access description:

Slap City is a streamlined platform fighter with characters and locations from the Ludosity universe! Slap your way through multiplayer modes like Battle and Slap Ball either locally or online, or take on a bunch of single-player challenges!

Play with up to four players locally or online with a variety of game modes, options, and computer controlled opponents, or play for points in online 1 on 1 ranked battles.
Save replays of your greatest moments!

Ludosity is continuing to add content to their in-development title; recent additions include balance changes, three new stages, and a new character: “Business Casual Man”. He possesses a “unique ability to earn money from certain moves in order to make certain other moves super powerful by spending the money!”

The developer is following a planned “roadmap” to add features and content to their title:

Learn more about the pros and cons of comeback mechanics in Exploring Fighting Games

If you’ve ever played a fighting game where you simply got mauled, and felt like there was nothing you could do to turn the tide in your favor, you likely understand the existence of comeback mechanics in newer titles. While they remain a source of contention among the fighting game community, recent trends show they are here to stay.

In this episode of Exploring Fighting Games, Novriltataki discusses the varied mechanics across series, and which ones do the best at giving players more chances to turn the game around without making it feel like their opponent has wasted an entire game or round on aggression. They also discuss how they feel the mechanics should be addressed going forward.
