BeasTV drops 14-minute trailer for “9road” indie film, starring Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike legend Kuroda

Several months back, Daigo the BeasTV dropped a surprise trailer for what seemed to be a little indie film called 9road. At the time, little was known about the project other then its leading stars — including FGC legends such as Kuroda and Eita — were acting in roles that referenced the Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike universe.

If you had any thought in your mind that this project would somehow eventually tie to the 3rd Strike gameplay of Kuroda’s excellent Q, then the latest trailer will likely change your mind:

Clocking in at a hefty 14 minutes, this trailer leans heavily on the dark and weird 3rd Strike-inspired world and makes it clear that it is, first and foremost, its own story. 9road is a strange project for FGC alumni, and a strange source of inspiration for a serious indie film — it’ll be exciting to see how these two worlds collide in the finished project.

History Behind the Warrior looks at Raiden — and the possibility that he may be the next main Mortal Kombat villain

Following up on their previous videos, History Behind the Warrior is continuing to delve deeper in the mythos behind the rebooted Mortal Kombat universe. In their latest episode, they take a look at the most likely candidate to be the main villain in the next installment of the series: Raiden.

Traditionally, Raiden has been the “big good” of the series, being the force behind the heroes. However, he did become a villain in the previous continuity, something that the new timeline seems to be repeating, as shown by the post-credits scene of Mortal Kombat X. In addition to this however, they also look at other hints hidden throughout the game’s story as well as in the “endings” in the arcade ladder mode.

The interesting bit about this, however, is that “Dark Raiden” in the previous timeline was merely just a subplot. If Raiden is the main villain in future games, it would represent the first time that he’ll get a proper villainous story arc.

Gain insight into Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s Season 3.5 changes with these developer matches

With the advent of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s recent round of balance changes, more than a few players may be wondering at why the game developers made some of the choices they did.

For those curious gamers, a recent post by SFVAE’s combat designer (and former player) Ryuichi “Woshige” Shigeno may shed some insight into this. In Shadaloo Combat Research Institute posting, Woshige shares a number of videos of the game’s development team playing matches.

While there’s no commentary over the matches, Woshige does provide a small write up of the changes or concepts they’re showcasing. More interestingly, the matches show a slower, more neutral-focused style than what we tend to see in Street Fighter V matches.

You can check out these matches below, or on the Shadaloo C.R.I. post.

Zeku vs. Necalli

As Necalli can now cancel his EX Valiant Rebellion and EX The Disc’s Guidance into V-Trigger, this gives him new ways to close the distance.

As Zeku can now cancel the end of certain special moves into his Shukumyo, this opens up new combo possibilities and links through free-switching between the Old and Young forms.

Ken vs. Guile

Ken’s got new combo possibilities that take advantage of his Quick Step V-Skill. For example, he can now combo Chin Buster 2nd -> Quick Step V-Skill -> H Shoryuken in the corner.

Sakura vs. Karin

Sakura can now cancel her EX Hadoken into V-Trigger. This gives her more options when she lands a hit with it.
Karin can now use her Meioken V-Skill more easily in combos, letting her build up V-Gauge even faster.

Chun-Li vs. Akuma

Chun-Li can now cancel into her V-Skill, making it easier for her to build V-Gauge.

BornFree talks to Cloud805, the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Dragon Ball FighterZ warrior

In his series of video interviews with top and up-and-coming competitors, BornFree sat down with UYU|Cloud805. The conversation took place at NorCal Regionals 2018, and touches on the player’s past in Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, and future with Dragon Ball FighterZ.

Cloud805 triumphed at the Battle for the Stones event, but that’s not his favorite moment in Marvel vs. Capcom — rather, it was beating FChamp at Evolution 2013 in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and making top 8. After some talk about his background in gaming, the conversation switches to DBFZ. Cloud805’s team is Kid Buu, Adult Gohan, and Goku Black because he feels his personality and style show in them. He has pretty strong feelings about Adult Gohan and Android 16, which he goes into about the 14:30 mark.

Check out the full interview below:

BornFree also recently sat down with PR_Balrog.

Combonauts and Persona Entertainment show off what Blue Mary can do in these combo exhibitions for The King of Fighters XIV

KOF combo enthusiasts explore the potential of the returning fan-favorite fighter.

Alongside the other fighters that arrived in The King of Fighters XIV‘s latest patch as DLC, returning fighter Blue Mary has proven unsurprisingly popular. Combonauts wants to demonstrate Blue Mary’s combo potential — and with some generous use of Max Mode, we can see the generally impractical (but entertaining, naturally) far reaches of Blue mary’s combo game here.

Combonauts is hardly the only content creator jumping in to show off what Blue Mary is capable of; check out even more combo craziness in this video from from Persona Entertainement:

The King of Fighters XIV has a version 3.01 patch on the way to correct some minor bugs that came along with Blue Mary’s arrival.

Thanks to the preview gameplay given to us by WinnerStaysOn, we’re starting to get a clearer image of how Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition‘s newest DLC character, Falke, might play. But if you don’t have the hours to look through gameplay footage from WSO, that’s fine: VesperArcade‘s gathered all the info we have on the Psycho-clone in this helpful video below:

Falke is shaping up to be a slower-moving, defensive zoner with big buttons and ambiguous air approaches. This long range, patient style is a gap many players feel is under represented in SFV — we’ll get to see how she fares on the battlefield on April 24th.

Pick up For Honor once again with this video tutorial aimed at fighting game players

The warriors of For Honor might pick up their mantles and swords once again. Ubisoft just recently a fairly big content patch with a robust Training Mode. The game saw a little bit of success in the fighting game community… but it didn’t really stick. If the news is making you reconsider dusting off your copy of the game, then take a look at this tutorial video designed with fighting game players in mind.

While certainly not a traditional fighting game (and the odds may not always be in your favor, either), having good fundamentals will certainly be helpful in convincing enemies to depart the world of the living. The meat of the combat in For Honor is in the three stances, one for each side, and top. A player will block incoming attacks from those specific sides as well as attack in that direction. Between light and heavy attacks, this opens a pretty diverse move list. As for defense, there’s blocking, parrying, and dodging, and each technique carries a different scale of risk and rewards. To break up a turtling player, approach them for a throw.

Check out the tutorial below, and make sure to take advantage of the new For Honor Training Mode to become a successful warrior.

Romneto breaks down the synergy in Josh360’s mid-tier Marvel vs. Capcom 2 team of Jill, Ruby Heart, and Guile

When people think of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, one of the first things that comes to mind is how unbalanced the game is, and how competitive play is focused solely on the top tiers. Despite this however, there are some mid tier teams in the game that do show some good synergy as well, allowing top players to do well with them.

In this new video from MvC2 legend Brett “Romneto” Harbach, we get the see the synergy driving one such mid tier team: Josh360’s mid-tier team of Jill, Ruby Heart, and Guile.

Now Josh360 is more known for his deadly Iron Man-based team that can take out opponents with one touch. That said, he occasionally does play with mid tier characters, bringing out the aforementioned Jill, Ruby Heart, and Guile team. The video below covers not only combos, but a number of tricks and tactics as well that the team can pull off in certain situations. This includes some unique things — such as using Jill’s zombies for unblockable set-ups against rolling opponents, and more.

Learn how Falke “harmonizes” Psycho Power in her Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition Character Introduction video

Get an introduction to the “Guardian Hawk,” courtesy of Matt Edwards.

With Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition‘s third Season 3 DLC character –Neo Shadaloo’s Falke– set to swoop down onto the roster next Tuesday, Capcom UK Community and Esports Manager Matt “The Street Writer” Edwards has released the customary Character Introduction video for the upcoming fighter.

After briefly covering the newcomer’s lore, Edwards describes the intricacies of her Variable System, noting that, due to her specials lacking traditional motion inputs like her Neo Shadaloo counterpart Ed, she is “tailor-made for single-button hit confirms with her far-reaching normals and ease of access.”

After showcasing some fancy combos utilizing both of her V-Triggers, a Critical Art confirm and multiple Stuns on Ed, Edwards closes with the following statement on why players might be interested in picking up the “Guardian Hawk.”

“With her long pokes, projectile pressure and two-button anti-air, Falke has a strong repertoire of mid-range tools and can easily convert stray hits into fully-stocked combos.” Catch the full video below.

Falke will be available next Tuesday, April 24th, for either 100,000 Fight Money or $5.99. She can also be acquired as part of the Season 3 Character Pass — which also includes Sakura, Blanka, and the yet-to-be-released Cody, G, and Sagat — for $29.99.
