After watching GO1’s incredible play at Final Round, reality set in for many in the FGC — if you didn’t know how to deal with Adult Gohan’s corner pressure, you were going to lose very quickly in Dragon Ball FighterZ.
Depending upon who you have on your team, though, it may not be such a bad situation. As rooflemonger demonstrates in his latest tutorial video, there’s a selection of character hurt-boxes that are able to duck under Gohan’s leg loop. Check out the video above to see if your chosen fighter has a clear-cut answer, or needs to make big risks to get away from Gohan.
We’re into day two of Noctis’s invasion of Tekken 7, and after seeing the punishment options and damage already discovered on day one, it looks like he’s winning the war. The FGC’s tech should only get crazier from here on out — let’s see what players have cooked up today!
If you’re looking for a comprehensive breakdown of the DLC prince, you’re not going to find a more thorough discussion then mastermind’s hour-long seminar on Noctis.
Aris, a.k.a. Mr. Avoiding The Puddle, explores the power of Noctis’s FC DF+2. This fantastic low gives Noctis a solid 50/50 on counterhit.
Muramishi shares a wide variety of ways to wall-carry with Noctis. Which is particularly good, since Noctis seems to have a decent ability to get wall-resplats in corners, as demonstrated below.
HurtboxTV is encouraging a Tekken 5 flavor with their dash-jab heavy combo video.
Demon has found an exceptional tech trap using Noctis’s jab-teleport, of all things.
With all the dropkicks in this Geese stage combo from 쿨잼Coorejam, you’d think Noctis was trained by King.
And last but certainly not least, the most important Noctis tech that has been discovered in Tekken 7 to date: Noctbob is an option for those that haven’t downloaded DLC3 yet.
The biggest story of Final Round 2018‘s Dragon Ball FighterZ event starts before the tournament itself did — with SonicFox vs. GO1’s first-to-10 exhibition match. Not only did this exhibition serve as the first face-off of two of the best players in the world, but when juxtaposed with the tournament’s grand finals, it also gave us an interesting insight into each of their problem-solving capabilities.
There’s plenty to learn from both sets, but what makes the grand finals so interesting is the adaptation of both players once they had some experience with each other. Check out the videos above to see DBFZ-focused channel West City Weekly tackle some of the finer points of each set, and how the story of these world-class players evolved over the course of the weekend.
BornFree had a great opportunity for a first-time interview with a rising star in the fighting game community. At Final Round, the FGC YouTuber caught up with none other than RISE|MenaRD, the Dominican Republic star who burst onto the world stage after a tremendous victory at Capcom Cup 2017.
The interview opens with the big question about that event, and how it changed MenaRD’s life. The victory dramatically changed his and his family’s financial situation, and helped him travel and compete more. MenaRD established a team called Santo Domingo Tigers, that seeks to elevate the profile of Dominican Republic esports competitors. Next, BornFree turns the conversation to thoughts about the balance of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. MenaRD speaks up about Abigail — who, in his opinion, is not playing the same game as all the other characters. He outright says that Abigail shouldn’t be in the game.
The rest of the conversation covers which characters MenaRD likes to play, his relations with the community at large, and his training regimen.
The Capcom Pro Tour kicked off in a big way at Final Round. Every one was bringing their A-game — as developed since the release of Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition — and as such, we saw a lot of interesting plays and hype moments throughout the weekend.
From Infiltration’s big reveal of his signing to Panda Global, to NL’s amazing double-perfect against stormKUBO’s oppressive Abigail, there were many moments that could’ve been included in a highlight reel. But Capcom did their best to condense the weekend into five of the very best moments, and did a good job at doing so:
While a lot of Chun-Li mains have been using her second V-Trigger (Kikosho) since Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition released, V-Trigger I (Renkiko) is still a very strong V-Trigger in its own right. Its multi-hit buff to normals allows her a lot of options based on their increased hit-stun, and deals a load of damage on every successful touch.
As shown here, even from max range, getting a Crush Counter from forward roundhouse — newly added to Season 3 — can result in big damage. This shows two combo variations — one considered simple and one more advanced. Both, however, deal lots of damage and might give Chun-Li players more pause for consideration when tasked with choosing their V-Trigger.

The newest DLC fighter shows off her powerful abilities in her reveal trailer!
The next DLC character inbound to The King of Fighters XIV now has her own reveal trailer! The result of SNK’s character design contest, Najd is a college student by day, but a vigilante wielding mysterious powers by night — powers granted by the djinn’s abaya she wears. And it’s more than enough power to put Geese Howard in his place, as you can see below…
Najd joins Oswald, Heidern, and one yet-unrevealed fighter coming as DLC for The King of Fighters XIV in April 2018.
Sailor Jupiter is the undisputed queen of top tier in Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S. Her zoning tools, combined with her command grab properties, make her dangerous from far away and make it risky to get up close to her.
But it’s not just about the tools, but how you use them. This tutorial from Xsjado Blade explains in-depth the tricks Sailor Jupiter can use to lock down the competition. Further, he shows off some of her best combos, including her insane 100% combo using cross-up jump kicks into her lariat.
Since the game was first revealed back at E3 2017, YouTuber and avid Dragon Ball fan IKevinX has continuously made videos of all of the references to the original anime and manga (and even other video games) that have been lovingly placed into Dragon Ball FighterZ by Arc System Works and Bandai Namco Entertainment. Now, with the first two of eight upcoming DLC characters set to arrive later this month — and their trailers revealed — it’s time for him to get back to work.
Our first pair of additional FighterZ come from a corner of the Dragon Ball universe currently unrepresented in the playable roster: the movies and TV specials.
First up, we have Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan, who’s signature massive stature and brutal fighting style appear to be well-represented, with attacks being drawn from his initial appearance in the eighth film, Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan, as well as the tenth film, Second Coming, (thankfully seeming to avert the atrocity that was Bio-Broly), we can see many of the powerful attacks, command grabs, and even a double stomp that he pummeled Goku, Gohan, Krillin, and others with. Finally, we get a quick glimpse at his Level 3 Meteor Attack: his signature Eraser Cannon.
Finally, we have the father of Goku and Raditz — and the man who indirectly started the Super Saiyan legend — Bardock. Obviously drawing large inspiration from both the TV specials Dragon Ball Z: Bardock – The Father of Goku and Episode of Bardock, we can see many of the attacks from his battles against Frieza’s army. Tobi and Chilled have been incorporated into his moveset, most notably his Vortex Crusher, Rebellion Trigger, and Final Spirit Cannon — which appears to be his Level 3 Meteor Attack, enhanced by his Super Saiyan transformation. You can check out both videos below, as well as links to previous coverage of his work.
