Jam Pro League VODs show off the strength of Brazil’s Street Fighter V scene

JAM Festival 2018 is a ranking event in Brazil for the Capcom Pro Tour. It will be the last chance for Latin American Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition players to score CPT points. Considering this is a country that’s responsible for strong players like Keoma, DidimoKOF, Brolynho, and more, you can expect that JAM Festival 2018 will be the grounds for many difficult, exciting battles.

For a glimpse into the Brazilian scene, Brazil tournament organizer Mwisk has graciously put together English post-match commentary of JAM Pro League #1‘s finals. This league is a monthly event for Brazilian players, and while you can catch it live (and in Portuguese) at their Twitch page, you can see the finals below — with Mwisk’s English commentary — right now with this playlist.

Vayne Carudas Solidor is Dissidia Final Fantasy NT’s first DLC character

During their recent livestream, Square Enix revealed the identity of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT‘s first DLC character — Vayne Carudas Solidor.

For those not familiar with him, Vayne is one of the antagonists from Final Fantasy XII. Heir to the Arcadian throne, Vayne involved himself with a rogue deity in a conspiracy involving the fate of the world — and the freedom of its inhabitants from the machinations of other deities.

His involvement in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is most likely much less convoluted. Indeed, his trailer focuses less on any conspiracies he may be planning, and more on the combat techniques that he brings into the game.

Vayne will be coming to the arcade version in the March update, and will be available for purchase for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT on PlayStation 4 in late April.

After him, Square has five more DLC characters in store — the next of which is yet another male character, but from the earlier half of the Final Fantasy series.

Bandai Namco releases full character intro trailer for Broly in Dragon Ball FighterZ

Words cannot reach this unstoppable beast!

Bandai Namco has finally released the full reveal trailer for Broly, one of two confirmed upcoming DLC characters for Dragon Ball FighterZ. After his first announcement and an insane amount of teasing, players finally have close to fifteen unadulterated seconds of Broly goodness.

It’s only a matter of time before players break down this brief albeit action-packed trailer and connect all of its references to other Dragon Ball media. Bardock’s trailer cannot be too far behind, and a release date for both fighters should be right around the corner.

I hope that Broly gets a character color that gives him his blue hair from his initial Super Saiyan transformation; he went Super Saiyan Blue before it was cool. Check out the trailer for yourself, below!

Bitbox has the answers.

Earth Romancer developers share tutorial for lead character, the (tiny) space knight Palante

One of the most important things a developer can do is demonstrate that they know how their own game is played. This shouldn’t seem like a big deal, but if the spokesperson for a project can’t clearly explain gameplay, it’s hard to be interested in playing, you know?

That’s why Lunar Hare Studio’s character tutorial for their first fighting game project, Earth Romancer, was a pleasant surprise to me:

Earth Romancer manages to stand out in the heavily saturated indie smash-clone market by expanding its gameplay vocabulary beyond what’s typical of the genre. As Palante’s moveset shows, he’s able to make use of P-links, Kara Cancels, Float Cancels, and a wide variety of zoning and okizeme pressure. Whatever you may think the blatant Greed Sever rip-off, it’s clear that an obsession for slick system mechanics is what really inspires this studio the most.

If the above game-play interested you at all, you can try an alpha demo of their game right now.

theScore esports provides an in-depth look at Tokido’s long journey towards last year’s Evo victory in Street Fighter V

The losers bracket. In the realm of competitive fighting games, most players will advise each other that being in the winners side of a major tournament is better than the former. This becomes painfully apparent if someone gets sent to the losers side early on in pools, or getting sent there right after you make it out in winners — where as some will say: the real tournament begins.

Imagine if you will, losing your first match out of pools in top 256 in Street Fighter V at Evolution to the likes of NuckleDu, only to find out that your first losers match right after is GamerBee, who was sent to your side of the bracket by Nemo. You eliminated him? Good for you. Now you have to play Daigo Umehara. Only a dozen or so matches left to go before you can crack top eight!

Yes, running your way through the losers bracket at a major for any fighting game can be a daunting task for many, whether your’re a sponsored pro or an aspiring diamond in the rough. However, for the few who have the mental stamina to endure set after grueling set against some of the best fighting game competitors in the world, an amazing losers run can cement a player’s legacy and be talked about for many years to come.

With Echo Fox’s Hajime “Tokido” Taniguchi’s memorable top eight losers run towards his Evolution 2017 first place victory still fresh in our minds, theScore esports takes a closer look at the legend on his path to Evo glory. The video goes over his major fighting game accomplishments throughout the years across multiple titles, his growth as a player both in and out of the game, and touches on each set before and during his top eight losers run against Punk, Haitani, Itabashi Zangief, Filipino Champ, NuckleDu, and Kazunoko. While definitely not as lengthy a losers run as Luffy’s was at Evo 2014, the caliber of players both Luffy and Tokido had to go through to win Evo is nonetheless intimidating, but also inspiring — as it shows with hard work and laser-focused determination, it is possible to overcome what many consider to be an almost insurmountable task.

cutcc’s “QuickNotes” lays out the basics of Tekken 7’s Lee Chaolan

cutcc returns with more of his “QuickNotes” series for Tekken 7! This series is designed to lay out the fundamentals of a Tekken character in as compact a video as possible. Today’s study is the game’s most excellent character, Lee Chaolan.

While he is easily one of the game’s toughest characters to play, Lee makes the effort worthwhile by sporting excellent pokes and powerful wall carry. Lee’s dominance of the mid-range can quickly frustrate the opponent to death, if his surprisingly strong punish game doesn’t do it first.
