Fighting EX Layer set to release by end of June 2018, adds Shadowgeist to its roster

Foundations for Fighting EX Layer‘s release and support!

ARIKA announced a slew of information for Fighting EX Layer during its livestream event yesterday, including release information and the newest addition to its roster: Shadowgeist. Shadowgeist is a vigilante, similar to Skullomania, but has an entirely different view of justice. The cybernetic-enhanced warrior seeks out vengeance for crimes committed against himself, his family, and his country by a totalitarian government. The final two characters were also teased, with silhouettes in Shadowgeist’s announcement image.

Fighting EX Layer will release digitally on the PlayStation 4 by the end of June, with two versions. The “light” version of the game will run $39.99 USD and will include all of the fighters in the character select below, excluding the two who are yet-to-be-announced, and five Gougi decks. The standard edition will be $59.99 USD and will include all 12 characters and 15 Gougi decks. (A brief overview of the Gougi deck system can be found here.)

Fighting EX Layer Roster as of 2-26-2018

According to ARIKA, there will be a single player mode, but it won’t be a typical Story Mode, and it will be discussed in more detail at a later date. For post-launch support, there are two different kinds of color packs planned, titled “Type-A” and “Type Gold.” Examples were shown within the stream. ARIKA also plans on releasing the game physically, and bringing the title to PC through Steam — if it sells well.

If you would like to watch the stream in its entirety, it has been embedded for you below! The stream is in Japanese, with an English translator. Those wanting to get straight to the action can find gameplay for both Blair and Jack around the 54:00 mark.

World Warrior FGC shows off stylish corner combos for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition’s Ken

Optimization is an important aspect to fighting game combos. No matter how you look at it, getting the highest, most consistent damage off all your conversions leads to more wins in the long run. But not every combo is meant to be a tournament winner — sometimes, you just gotta show off.

World Warrior FGC has seen in more than his fair share of useful Ken tech for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. Today’s combos aren’t about utility, and more about style. Multiple mid-juggle cross unders, backwards tatsus, reverse input DPs and more are demonstrated in his latest video.

BoxeR-King breaks down how to approach low health situations in Tekken 7

Once you get put in a situation where anything can kill you in Tekken 7, it’s easy to panic and over-commit to a risky, thoughtless decision. This can get compounded when fighting a new opponent, as you have little-to-no information to work with on what they might be willing to do in order to finish the round.

In situations like this, BoxeR-King suggests, it’s best to play objectively and calmly, focusing on what’s likely going to be used by the character, not the player. His latest video breaks down the theory behind the chip-kill scenario in Tekken — how to analyze it and how to overcome it.

Hermes shows off the best aspects of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle’s combo system

Bandai Namco’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle had a weird reputation as an auto-combo only fighter when it was first released. As those in the FGC that still play the game would attest, this couldn’t be further from the truth:

And even if you wanted to take the path of least resistance, you wouldn’t be able to with the character Hermes. This complex criminal lacks a combo-able level 1 super, forcing her to instead exploit the game’s nuanced, meter heavy juggle system. She also full employs use of the game’s Stand De-sync mechanic, which forms the basis of many of her juggles in this video. (For the uninitated: a ‘Stand’ is the ghost-like entity standing behind Hermes in this post’s banner.)

If that weren’t enough, she also has a sub-system involving stickers she attaches to her own limbs, allowing each stickered limb to add an additional hit when used in an attack. This changes the way attacks behave in damage scaling and during juggles, and has to be managed by the player since Hermes loses her stickers when she’s knocked down.

All of these aspects of JJBA:ASB’s combo system are demonstrated in GreenPoolBall‘s latest video, which also shows off some useful safe jumps and crossups. If for, some reason, you watch the above video and still think you can auto-combo your way to victory, you should head on over to the very active JJBA:ASB Discord and try your luck.

Get ready for “perfected” Ultra Instinct! Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 releases launch trailer for Extra Pack 2

Witness Ultra Instinct Goku before his final showdown!

Bandai Namco has finally given players a trailer and release date for the last known expansion, Extra Pack 2, for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. The trailer focuses on the upcoming characters, Goku (Ultra Instinct), Jiren, Android 17 (Dragon Ball Super), and Fu, and the Extra Scenario: Infinite History. Each character’s unique skills make them valuable additions to the roster.

Infinite History may be the most exciting addition to the long-supported title yet. During the new story, players join forces with their mentor and battle throughout history — but this time, it may never be the same. Unlike the previous story mode where history was meant to be preserved, anything goes!

The full extent of how much history can be changed has yet to be announced, but if its anything like the end of Xenoverse 2, players are in for some very interesting “What if?” scenarios. A few of the showcased events include Jiren teaming up with Goku Black and Zamasu and the long-awaited reunion of Tapion and Future Trunks. The upcoming DLC also includes an additional 5 Parallel Quests, 8 skills, 8 Super Souls and even more costumes!

There’s also a ton of free content coming to the game as well! Custom Saiyan characters will be able to unlock the power of Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan (Super Saiyan Blue), all custom characters will have access to the “Overlimit” skill, and Android 18 and Videl will be getting swimsuits! All of this content will release next week on February 28 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC!

Don’t forget about the upcoming Dragon Ball FighterZ DLC either! Players who own both games will get access to the Android 21 outfit for custom characters. The release date for this content has yet to be announced.

The release of Extra Pack 2 may signal the end of the bulk of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 content. Whether or not the title continues to receive DLC in the future, there is more than a wealth of things to experience; Bandai Namco has made a perfect example of post-release support.
