VODs of Mikado Arcade’s 7th Marvel Super Heroes tournament are now available

Mikado Arcade in Japan is known as a consistent competitive hot-spot for a wide variety of old school arcade fighters. While we’ve been covering their current multi-game tournament series Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017, there’s also consistent tournaments for individual games: in this case, Mikado’s 7th high-level Marvel Super Heroes tournament.

MSH was Capcom’s second foray into Marvel fighting games, and is the direct predecessor of X-Men vs. Street Fighter. A large part of the mental game (and mechanics) are built around its Infinity Gem system. This system allows players to enjoy new mechanics and buffs, which you can read further about at the SRK Wiki.

If you want to know more about the history of this MSH tournament, be sure to read our on-site reporting from previous Mikado Arcade’s previous Marvel tournaments!

Behold the excellence of Lee Chaolan’s counter-hit Magic 4 in Tekken 7

No one has ever accused Tekken 7‘s Lee of being an easy or straight forward character. You rarely see the character in tournament play due to the complex nature of his combos and overall game-plan, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an incredible reward for your excellent effort.

This is exemplified in his Magic 4, a counter-hit fishing 11-frame high that can lead to upwards of 44% damage without rage. Lee player TZMurakumo shows off this tool in his latest combo video, with a series of progressively more impractical and powerful combos for the adopted Mishima.

See Noctis practice for his Tekken 7 debut in this movelist breakdown for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Before Noctis heads off to beat up Geese, Akuma and Heihachi in Tekken 7, he’s got some business to take care of in the world of Final Fantasy. Releasing first on console before he comes to arcades, Noctis makes his fighting game debut in Dissidia Final Fantasy NT this coming January. As part of the second anniversary celebration for Dissidia Final Fantasy Arcade, a new Noctis trailer was released, detailing the Crown Prince’s abilities.

While the Engine Blade is his primary weapon, Noctis has access to the Royal Arms in battle, legendary weapons which only those of royal blood can wield. He can switch between these weapons mid-combo, and even teleport to thrown weapons to continue an attack. Noctis also has access to some magic spells, allowing him to fight both up close and at range.

This stream also revealed the Flower Fields from Final Fantasy VIII will appear as a stage, and that the level cap for Final Fantasy Dissidia has been raised to 25 — adding more weapons and costumes for each character. For those wanting to see all the alternate costume colors for each character (including Noctis), cometdance has created a gallery of all the colors shown on stream.

You can watch the entire second anniversary stream below, with the Noctis breakdown starting at 4:49:41.

BoxeR-King breaks down Tekken 7’s notorious King vs. Xiaoyu matchup

If you ever ask a King player what their worst character match-up is in Tekken 7, more often then not they’ll tell you it’s Ling Xiaoyu. Broadly speaking, the slippery nature of Xiaoyu’s “Art of Phoenix” stance combined with her high damage and safety makes it incredibly difficult for King to ever get his offense started.

But King pro BoxeR-King doesn’t want you to think it’s a lost cause. In this over 15 minute dissertation on the matchup, he lays down various King anti-AOP strategies for you to employ, as well as some clever block punishments you can use.

Get a visual before and after demonstration of all of the Injustice 2 patch 1.12 changes, courtesy of Noble|Raptor

NetherRealm Studios dropped the latest update, patch 1.12, for Injustice 2 earlier this month. While the last few monthly patches primarily focused on bug fixes, Gear adjustments and the addition of Legendary Multiverses and Fighter Pack 2 DLC characters, this latest patch served as the game’s second balance update, bringing with a host of changes to a variety of cast members.

“Two Minute Tutorials” teaches you how to learn from your Street Fighter V replays

When grinding out hours of matches online, it’s easy to lose sight of small mistakes made in each individual match. While going back and watching our worst moments doesn’t have the same thrill as playing the game itself, the extra effort might help you identify leaks in your game you didn’t know you had.

That’s the topic of PugilistPenguin‘s latest “Two-Minute Tutorials”, his excellent self-improvement series for Street Fighter V. Whether it’s fake pressure you were unaware you were falling for or punishment opportunities you missed, there’s always a way for an analytical player to improve if they put the work into it.

VesperArcade and BushinStyle sits down to discuss their thoughts on Zeku after one month of play

We have had Zeku for one month in Street Fighter V, and while we have seen players trying out the hybrid character, no one has really talked a lot about him since. VesperArcade sat down with former Guy main BushinStyle — who has since picked up the character — to do just that.

In it they discuss what they feel like are his strengths and shortcomings — most notably dissecting his normals and his difficulties escaping the corner as Old Zeku. They also explore some of his worst matchups, and outline some of the things they wish Capcom would change in the character in Season 3.
