Q-Bee dines on souls in the latest episode of The Nostalgic Gamer’s “Meet The Darkstalkers” series

In celebration of Halloween, The Nostalgic Gamer has released another episode of his “Meet The Darkstalkers” series, this time focusing on the Queen of the Soul Bees, Q-Bee. When originally designing the concept of a bee-woman character for Darkstalkers, the team’s initial idea was for her to be a type of mutated insect that uses other insects as a form of attack, however, following the submission of Akira “Akiman” Yasuda’s concept, the design was further refined until it became the character’s final design we all know and love today.

According to Haruo Murata, “Q-Bee” is meant to be more of a class type than the name of an individual character, and he originally didn’t think she needed to be added to the game because she was too creepy. However, Character Designer Bengus argued that she could be considered cute and adorable if players imagined she was designed by Shotaro Ishinomori.

You can catch the full video below to learn more about the Soul Bees, as well as the alliance they forged with Jedah Dohma in Vampire Savior to ensure the survival of their population.

Plant the seeds of your foe’s destruction with all of the known manga references for Nappa in Dragon Ball FighterZ

IKevinX is back with another video of manga references for the cast of Dragon Ball FighterZ. Though he originally intended to wait until more footage of the most-recently announced characters had been shown, he gave in to excitement and decided to compile a reference video for Nappa, based off of his recently-released gameplay trailer.

As it was a fairly quick look at the bald Saiyan warrior, there’s not a ton to see here, but we can tell his attacks obviously draw heavily on his appearance in the Saiyan Saga, from when he and Vegeta invaded Earth in search of the Dragon Balls, following the death of Raditz. His intro animation and several attacks draw from the original material, with his character artwork even being ripped straight out of the manga, in one of his more iconic poses.

He retains his traditionally brutal attack style, with even a shot-for-shot recreation of one of his assaults against Tien. Notable, however, is that his animation for planting Saibamen is not an exact match, though the attacks shown from the Cultivating Men certainly are, including the Saibaman Bomb. Lastly, we see two of Nappa’s supers: his signature Volcano Explosion and his Level 3, Break Cannon. You can see the full video below.

You can see IKevinX’s coverage of past characters at the following links:

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in North America and Europe on January 26th, 2018, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC. A Japanese release on those same platforms will follow on February 1st.

Es poses as Ruby in this RWBY X BlazBlue: Central Fiction combo video

If your hype for BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle is still in peak levels, you’re going to love this “RWBY X BlazBlue” combo video. Set to Ruby Rose’s theme, this collaboration between Koefficient and Monarch (the second does the combos) presents Es in a different light.

Es has a color reference to Ruby, and the creators take advantage of it. Fans of RWBY will recognize the scenes from the show that are interwoven with the opening of the movie. Besides that, Monarch shows his prowess with Es, giving a variety of highly-damaging combos and some stylish ones as well. There are a few cool scenes, like where Es clashes with Relius’s Ignis to escape the corner. Overall, the editing makes it a pleasure to watch, and it syncs very well with the song.

Check it out below, and make sure to watch till the very end for a very cool teaser!

Check out Capcom Fighters’ top 5 Street Fighter V moments of Canada Cup 2017

Canada Cup 2017 was arguably one of the most important stops on the 2017 Capcom Pro Tour. As the last open-bracket major — and one of the most stacked — you could obtain CPT points in, the future of many players’ survival on the CPT leaderboards was at stake.

That’s the context of many of Capcom Fighters‘s favorite moments- the triumph of securing a spot that seemed just out of reach moments ago, as was captured in 801 Strider’s victory over Moke. Contrasting that, there was Korean legend Poongko falling just short of defeating Norway’s Phenom, ensuring he wouldn’t survive top 32 at Canada Cup, and ending his CPT dreams.

Fight straight out of your sketchpad with these comic-style shaders for Street Fighter V and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

The transition of fighting games to modern 3D engines on PC has opened the door to all kinds of mods for these games; some of the most interesting are those that change how the game looks through the manipulation of an engine’s lighting and shaders.

This next set of mods from nded may be some of the most striking yet. Using the popular graphics modding program ReShade, nded has made both Street Fighter V and Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite look as if they were drawn with pencil and ink on someone’s notebook.

The graphical mod, which you can see in the videos below, is far from perfect – certain effects such as hitsparks, interfaces — and in Street Fighter V‘s case, projectile moves — aren’t visible with the mod. That said, the fact that both games run on an engine (Unreal Engine 4) that other fighting games use opens the door to those fighting games getting similar mods in the future.

For more info on how to get get these shaders, check out the instructions on the description of the MvC:I video.

Xiao Hai speaks to BornFree at Canada Cup about his triumphs and difficulties on the tournament scene this year

Qanba|Douyu Xiao Hai had an early exit to Canada Cup this year, where he placed second last year to NuckleDu. That didn’t stop the Chinese God of King of Fighters from sitting down with BornFree for an interview.

Over the course of twenty minutes, they discussed his specific training methods to finally overcome NuckleDu, who had become his demon at the end of 2016. They also discuss his favorite King of Fighters title — and why The King of Fighters XIV is not it. They also discuss the difficulties he faces in China when trying to train up in Street Fighter V, and his determination to prove himself at the Capcom Cup Last Chance Qualifier.

Mikado Arcade’s “Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017″ series continues with Breaker’s Revenge

“Super Street Fighter Carnival 2017” is the regularly-occurring tournament series of Japan’s famous Mikado Arcade. The series cherishes arcade titles of old, bringing out high-level play for a variety of arcade titles. We are over halfway through this tournament season, so you can catch up here if you missed any of the action.

When SSFC2016 ran last year, I was really surprised by the exclusion of SNK’s Breaker’s Revenge. Developed by Visco Corp, Breaker’s Revenge is one of the most popular “obscure” fighters I can think of in the FGC, survived almost exclusively by emulation and a vocal fanbase. And it kind of has to, as Breaker’s Revenge never made it out of the arcades.

That’s not the case this year though, as Breaker’s makes a triumphant return to Mikado’s flagship tournament series. We may never see a sequel or home release of Breaker’s Revenge, but we fortunately live in a time where that doesn’t have to stop you from playing this gem or checking it out live.

You can preview this seasons’ games and player scores with Mikado’s public Drive document, provided you know Japanese or are fluent in Google Translate. You can also follow the action by subscribing to Mikado’s official YouTube channel.

Unleash devils and demons with this Monster Hunter & Dante combo video for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite

Of the three currently-playable DLC characters for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, it seems that Monster Hunter is the one that has gained the most attention, due to the number of viable teams that people are developing around her. One of these teams has her partnered with Dante — a combination that has been noted to reward players with damage just for hitting buttons.

This new combo video from RoK the Reaper explores the potential of this Monster Hunter/Dante team. As part of showcasing the combos that these two can do, a number of them also demonstrate combos using the Time Stone, using both the stone’s Infinity Surge and Infinity Storm to extend the combos. In addition to this, some of the combos also utilize one or both of these characters’ install Hypers, showing what they can do together with these powered-up states.

Electrify the crowd with these stylish high-damage combos for Tekken 7’s Lars

Just in time for the Tanahashi-buff Lars is about to receive, JusticeSoulTuna has pieced together a Lars Alexandersson combo video that’s equal parts practical and unnecessarily stylish.

You probably don’t need to know conversions off Lars’s unblockable “Zeus” (b+2+3), for example, but that’s the sort of thing on display here in JST’s “Fight To Win.” The practical stuff comes in the form of stage transitions and wall carry combos — and of course, Lars’s unique stance-based Rage Drive. The wall carry here is particularly impressive, and any excuse to use Lars’s DF+33 practically is worth it.
