BornFree explores why arcade mode is still important to a fighting game like Street Fighter V

What it provides players, and why it should be there.

After listing off his top ten changes he wants to see for a potential “Super Street Fighter V” upgrade, BornFree returns to revisit the topic of Arcade Mode — which was left unexplored in his prior video, despite being #4 on the wish list. In the video below, he discusses how important arcade mode is to a fighting title, both as a means of moving units and a way of recruiting new players (a “gateway drug”), regardless if current professional players see a need for it. He goes on to describe the emotional impact and practical benefits of having strong single-player content in a fighting game. Check it out:

BornFree has a slightly different outlook than I settled on when I wrote about this subject last year; though Capcom has not yet met my hopes for a creative –or even adequate — single-player substitute to arcade mode, either. It seems that SFV needs a good arcade mode now, more than ever.

X-Kira recently found some interesting video related to this topic, that may give us an early look into the layout of an SFV arcade mode.

CapcomFighters interviews Sean “ImStillDaDaddy” Dench about that Momochi match, his new sponsor and more

The Capcom Pro Tour continues its Street Fighter V focused interview series with British pro Sean “ImStillDaDaddy” Dench. Now sponsored by Infused, the charismatic Guile player shoots on his recent high profile match versus Momochi, his training schedule, and his hopes for balancing changes in Street Fighter V.

He also — maybe predictably — believes his recent improvement is because Europe has gotten stronger in Street Fighter V overall. “I went over to America and they play a bit different. I believe Europe has gotten a lot stronger because we’ve got a lot of players, some of the play a bit reckless. America and Japan play a bit too respectful.”

X-Kira’s latest datamining video reveals new costumes, stages and modes coming to Street Fighter V

After releasing a mock-up video of what Street Fighter’s V long rumored Arcade Mode may look like, infamous dataminer X-Kira has made another video, examining the files of the game’s recent update to reveal more content that will be coming to the game in the future.

To begin, he notes that in addition to Zeku, who will complete the title’s Season 2 roster, several Premium Costumes are in the works. Specifically, there will be:

  • Eight costumes for Chun-Li
  • Seven for Kolin
  • Five for Karin
  • Three for Ryu, Ken, Rashid, R. Mika, Balrog and Akuma
  • Two for M. Bison, Zangief, Nash, Vega and Laura
  • One for Cammy, Alex and Birdie

Moving on to the topic of additional DLC Stages, X-Kira states that Birdie’s Street Fighter Alpha 2 stage will be making a return, along with a brand new Russia stage for Kolin, similar to what can be seen in her official character artwork. Ed will receive a Neo Shadaloo stage, Menat will get an Egyptian themed stage, R. Mika will have her own wrestling ring and F.A.N.G’s unique stage will be themed around the Nguuhao cartel.

Urien’s stage will be based off the Olmec Ruins stage from Third Strike, Ken’s is based off his stage from Street Fighter II while Nash will receive a remake of his Alpha 2 stage. The iconic Grassy Field stage from Street Fighter Alpha 2 is also set to return. Sadly, no word on the return of Dhalsim, Zangief or Chun-Li’s classic Street Fighter II stages.

Lastly, X-Kira claims that Extra Battle, Dojo and Dramatic Battle — most recently seen in Ultra Street Fighter II and the Street Fighter Alpha series — will be making a return. He also notes that a Street Fighter III: Third Strike BGM Pack, similar to the Street Fighter II Music Pack that was released earlier this week will be on the way soon, with many of the rumored costumes arriving as early as next month.

These are all certainly intriguing developments that paint a very bright picture for the overall future of Street Fighter V. Of this leaked content, which part excites you the most? Are their other things you’d like to see added to the game that weren’t revealed in this data mining? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.

Check out IKevinX’s Dragon Ball FighterZ character concepts for Hit, Beerus, Goku Black and Zamasu

Taking a break from his anime and manga reference videos for the playable cast of Dragon Ball FighterZ, IKevinX has begun creating a series of character concept videos for characters he’d like to see in the game: specifically, Dragon Ball Super‘s Legendary Assassin of Universe 6, Hit; Beerus, the Universe 7 God of Destruction; and the devious pair of Goku Black and Zamasu, who seek to deliver divine justice with the eradication of all mortal beings.

These videos utilize references from both the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga in order to give viewers his personal idea of what these fighters could do if they were to make it into the game, with everything ranging from the intros and victory animations, to the entire moveset of normals, specials and supers. He even has a creative idea in imaging how Goku Black and Zamasu could work as a tandem character — similarly to how Androids 17 and 18 were implemented — that I’d really like to see come to fruition, as it seems like something Arc System Works and Bandai Namco Entertainment could successfully pull off. You can see all three videos below.

What do you think of these character concepts? Would you like to see these four represent Dragon Ball Super in Dragon Ball FighterZ? Are there any other character concept videos you’d like to see from IKevinX? Let us know in the comments.

Dragon Ball FighterZ will be released in February 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC, in both standard and CollectorZ Editions. An Open Beta test will be held closer to the game’s release — with pre-orders gaining early access to it, as well as early unlocks for Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Goku and Vegeta, along with two exclusive online lobby avatars.
