With Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite now less than a week away from release, Capcom Japan continues to highlight members of the cast with small mini-trailers, the latest recipient of which is Chris Redfield. Like the Iron Man and Mega Man X trailers before it, this short video showcases some of Redfield’s returning special moves from Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, while simultaneously drawing attention to the fact that Chris must now reload his magnum, as it can only hold a maximum of three shots.
He then transitions into an Active Switch combo involving Ultron, before showing off his three Hyper combos, which are the returning Grenade Launcher, Sweep Combo, and his Level 3 Satellite Laser, which now has significantly increased startup and utility. We also get a look at his Character Select Screen artwork, in addition to the chance to hear his new theme, which is now a remixed version of “Assault Rifle” from Resident Evil 5. You can see the full trailer below.
Will you be playing this member of S.T.A.R.S. in Infinite? Let us know in the comments section.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released on Tuesday, September 19th, in North America and Europe, for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC. A Japanese release for the same platforms will follow on Thursday, September 21st.
Our Tekken Training series Electric Wind God Vids continues with a dissection and discussion of what the backdash is used for in Tekken 7. The focus here is not execution, but application.
For those that still have trouble with the actual execution of the backdash (in particular, the fabled Korean Backdash), we advise you to check out our execution guide here. Included are several exercises for improving your execution of repeated back-dashes, which is vital to the space control and whiff-punishing that makes up a large part of Tekken play. That space control, demonstrated via an in-tournament example, is the subject of today’s study.
Hoping to bring in a new wave of fighting game fans with its focus on accessibility, Sirlin Games’ Fantasy Strike is now out on Steam Early Access. This release of Fantasy Strike includes eight characters, five stages and a plethora of single and multiplayer modes — including an Arcade mode, practice and of course, online play.
This Steam release of Fantasy Strike also shows off new improvements to the game’s cel-shading, as well as adding the new Friend Match feature. This allows players to invite friends to a match without having to fiddle around with private matches or external Steam menus.
Fantasy Strike will be regularly updated on Steam Early Access, with a view to launching sometime in 2018 on both PC and PlayStation 4. If you want to give this hyper accessible fighter a try, it unlocks on Steam at 3PM PT and costs $19.99.
This past weekend was chock full of high-level Street Fighter V action with three Capcom Pro Tour Ranking events taking place in various parts of the globe. Between DreamHack Montréal in Canada, Geek Weekend in Dubai, and Manila Cup in the Philippines, the competition for those precious CPT points became fiercer than ever.
Of course, the big story from this past weekend’s competitions was Team Razer’s Seon-woo “Infiltration” Lee winning Manila Cup 2017 with Juri; a character most players have written off as low-tier and not competitively viable. With his first big CPT win of the season, Infiltration not only garners some much needed points to boost his standing, but also shows that Juri is much more capable than was initially thought — if you put in enough work!
You can watch the former Evo champ’s amazing top eight run with Juri, as well as the performances from other top SFV players such as Echo Fox|Momochi, ZOWIE|Oil King, Mago, Gachikun, GFuel|Verloren, and others in the replay below.
The next chapter of Vs. series history is about to be written, as the highly-anticipated Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is just a week away from its release. To get players prepared to enter the battlefield, Capcom UK Community Manager Matt “The Street Writer” Edwards has begun to put together a series of character introduction videos for several cast members, in the vein of his past videos for Street Fighter V.
So far, Edwards has compiled videos for Mega Man X, Morrigan, Ryu, Iron Man, Captain America, and Captain Marvel, with videos for the other 24 fighters sure to be released in the coming days ahead (possibly in release order, as these were the first six characters to be revealed when the game was announced back in December at PlayStation Experience). These videos provide a very brief character introduction, along with a look at uses for each of their special moves and Hyper combos. Unique skills — such as X being able to combo his weapons into each other — are demonstrated, in addition to both a basic and advanced-level combo (complete with full notations) for players looking to try out each character.
Finally, Edwards makes a specific Infinity Stone recommendation to pair with each warrior before heading into battle, such as using the Mind Stone to provide X more attack variety (with its Surge being a stunning command grab, while the Infinity Storm provides him with a significant increase in Hyper combo meter to make more use of his Armor of Light).
We also get a look at each character victory animation, as well as a clear listen to their new Character Themes. You can see each video Edwards has released in the series below.
We also have a Japanese character trailer for X from the official CapcomChannel, similarly to the one they recently released for Iron Man, which also displays his official character artwork.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released in North America and Europe next Tuesday, September 19th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam. A Japanese release will follow on Thursday, September 21st, on the same platforms.
Red Bull’s “Gods and Gatekeepers” Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament was one of the most unusually-structured events the Smash scene has seen. Put as simply as possible, the event was comprised of three tournaments: A “qualifying” tournament, a crew battle comprised of selected top players from the qualifying tournament, and a “Forsaken” bracket made up of those not picked for the Crew Battle.
Tempo Storm pros Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson and Johnny “S2J” Kim gave their behind-the-scenes thoughts on the structure of the event, reflecting on the nature of performance and entertainment within fighting game tournaments like Gods and Gatekeepers.
Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 is full of zany characters, but Bedman probably trumps a lot of them in that regard. Attached to a nightmarish bed, the sleeping character unnerving to look at. What’s scarier, though, are his mix-ups and pressure.
This new tutorial from Sharizord is a great way to either pick up the character, or to learn more about him in detail. As Sharizord explains, Bedman excels in neutral and in okizeme. By using the PC version’s hitbox viewer, you can see the exact hurtboxes for all the normal attacks. Sharizord also gives tips on the strengths of each normal attack. The case is similar with special moves and Overdrive attacks.
Next, the video covers movement and throwing, extremely important aspects in good Bedman play. Lastly, the tutorial explains the Deja Vu mechanic and shows some oki examples. Tune in below.
These six Cosmic Stones from Marvel lore imbue your team with a variety of different abilities in battle, that can be best be compared to somewhat of a customizable version of Street Fighter V‘s Variable System. You have access to an Infinity Surge that is usable at all times (similarly to a V-Skill) and a more powerful Infinity Storm, which is a timed ability that can only be activated once the Infinity Gauge is up to 50% or more — akin to a V-Trigger, or an Ultra Combo in the Street Fighter IV series.
After providing a brief demonstration of each of the Stone’s Surges and Storms, Tyrant notes that the Reality Stone’s elemental Storm projectiles can be controlled by the player: light punch will rapidly launch wind-based projectiles at your foe, while light kick will turn the floor into ice, freezing the opponent on contact and leaving them open for punishment, similarly to Kolin’s V-Trigger. Heavy punch will unleash fire streams that are good for starting or ending combos, and heavy kick will cause thunder to rain down on your enemies, providing enhanced zoning and mix-up opportunities of your choice.
Another interesting note of Tyrant’s is that if you activate the Soul Stone’s Infinity Storm to revive a fallen teammate for a second time in the same match, they will only return with a pixel of health, as opposed to the 20% or so they’ll receive on initial resurrection. Tyrant also recommends beginners to use the Power and/or Reality Stones, as they appear to be the easiest to utilize and understand in a quick period of time — whereas the others tend to provide more nuanced forms of assistance. Overall, Tyrant believes that players should base Stone choices on either improving their character’s traditional strengths, or for covering their default weaknesses. You can see his full video below.
Capcom Japan also released an individual trailer about the Power Stone, which has also been included below.
Stay tuned, as episode 3 of Tyrant’s series will provide an in-depth look at MVC:I‘s combo system.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite will be released this Tuesday, September 19th, in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam PC. A Japanese release will follow next Thursday, September 21st.
